The appointment confirmation listed the time frame as 5:00-5:45 pm, but I decided to allot more than twice that amount of time to ensure that I would make it to my work event at 7:00 that evening. Unfortunately, the start time and timeframe given by the salon turned out to be meaningless. Although I arrived on time, after an initial check in, no one spoke to me for another 45 MINUTES. When I was finally able to speak with Aaliyah's assistant, I asked how long the process would take because I now needed to leave in about an hour. I was then told *for the first time* that all new clients who wanted a silk press needed to receive two preliminary treatments, which each had their own added cost and added 20-30 minute timeframes. As a result, the appointment would take several hours (and cost significantly more). The assistant claimed this information was on the website (more on that later). Needless to say, I could not get my hair done under those circumstances. Not only had the salon wasted my time but it had also left me scrambling to make my hair presentable for the plans I had that evening. Aaliyah may do great hair, I don't know. But this is no way to do business. People with appointments should not be waiting 45 minutes to be seen. And if you are requiring new clients to receive certain treatments in addition to what they have actually requested, state those requirements, timeframes, and costs openly and clearly. Don't bury vague language under a tab people may never even click on (see photos). This way your clients will know what they're signing up for and can plan accordingly.

I have been looking for a new salon that offers such services FOREVA! I was delighted to find one nearby. Online booking makes life easy and the website is in a super simple format. Love. Made an appointment for 9:30 and when I arrived, there was one young woman who introduced herself as Aaliyah, owner, stylist and style educator. We did a 15 minute consultation as promised and then ran through which treatments I would be receiving today. She's a young entrepreneur who sells her own homemade products and uses them on you as well. She did an anti breakage treatment, deep conditioning, trim and silk press. We hit it off and it felt nice to be privately attended to. Private meaning, this is an appointment based salon with one to one services. The salon in itself is beautiful. Black, gold and white. Very sparkly because, you know, girls lol. I loved it. I was very happy with my results because being mixed, my hair isn't easy to deal with. Never ran into a beautician who didn't mumble WTF at least once during my visit. I left very satisfied with moisturized hair cut into beautiful layers. My second appointment is already booked and I am grateful Yelp didn't steer me wrong. I've been looking for someone who not only cares about the style, but the health of my hair as well. When I tell you I didn't feel this lady detangle, blow dry or straighten my hair...it was so gentle. No tugging, no burning, it legit felt like she was tickling my hair the whole time. I was concerned to see the after math bc it was so pleasant but she killed it! Such amazing job. You can tell how much everyone loves each other there and genuinely loves working with each other. I usually go to my trusted lady in NYC, but being in the Newark area visiting my siblings, I thought I'd give this Brazilian salon a try since I was desperate for a quick treatment. Little did I know, it would turn into a nightmare. From the beginning, I should have realized something was wrong when Pam didn't bother cleaning the area before applying the wax directly to my skin. It felt strange and too hot, but I didn't say anything, assuming she knew what she was doing. I paid, left, and thought that was it. The next day, my armpit started burning intensely, and I couldn't even put my arm down. It turned extremely red and painful. I thought it might be an allergic reaction, so I applied allergy cream and hoped it would get better. Instead, it got worse with each passing day. When I finally managed to get in touch with them and informed them about my horrible experience, they were apologetic and suggested I traveled to Newark and pick up from them another cream. Matou was so friendly on the phone when I called and we decided on a time. I arrived on time and showed her what I wanted and she said they could totally do it but they were running a little behind schedule and she asked that I just relax and watch tv and offered me a beverage while I waited. Matou and her sisters all took their time studying the style I wanted, getting to know my hair texture and pattern and making recommendations for slight adjustments based upon my hair density and pattern which I 100% appreciated because other braid shops would've just done the style I showed them and it wouldn't have been to my liking, but Matou and her sisters took the time to make sure I got a style that would look best on me and that I would be happy with. They all literally did a portion of my style because they are each experts at different things (one did the basic braid down in the back, the other did the patterned braiding and the other finished off braiding the ends and setting the hair at the end).
