Came into this welcoming Dominican hair salon and did not wait long to be seated. This is a spacious and modern salon. When I stopped in, there was several stylist doing hair, a lot of women under the hair dryers, and ladies waiting to be serviced. I thought it was going to take awhile for me to be styled but it did not. I went to get my sew-in removed. The stylist who spoke a little bit of English was a sweetheart. She told me about the deals they had for sew-in on certain days. I believe during the week it's $100 (don't quote me). Even though I'm tender-headed -- the stylist was able to remove my braids/tracks, wash my hair, give me a deep condition (under the dryer) and blow dry my hair. I did not need it styled due to getting braids as my next style. The cost was reasonable. Definitely, would recommend this salon. The vibe was nice and they had nice music playing. Literally in tears as I am writing this they out relaxers in their product and with it my knowledge out some in my hair ruining my hair. I worked so hard to get my hair to a stage I that was good. All I wanted was a wash and trim and they completely destroyed my hair. I went because I heard their service was good by people I know I should have known better and looked at reviews. The people with softer, less thick hair don't get their hair relaxed of course they discriminate against people with thicker hair. They people there was nice but it's to throw you off what they will do to your hair I should have read the reviews and I regret that. The smell that came from my hair after washing was so terrible and strong it was clear they used chemicals in my hair. Unless you have smooth hair do not go here they will mess up your hair. read more

I enjoyed my 2 experiences here. I thought I was seeing things when I read they do weaves. But when I arrived, seeing was believing! This is your one stop shop for all hair needs. So perfect. More Dominican salons should do this since many black women frequently use their salons. The salon is a nice size. Clean with many places to sit. 4 wash sinks. Several dryers and approximately 8 hair stylist. Great customer service. Only giving the salon 4 stars because it's a long wait. Now I have to figure out what days are not busy ! Started coming here 2 years ago. The start was rocky as I had concerns of how they managed my hair. However, I went natural as of Oct 2017. Almost 2 years later and my hair is the healthiest and thickest its been since I was a little girl. The price is like most Doobie salons. It does get crowded on weekends. My recommendation would be to get there as soon as they open. I have been in there as long as 3.50 hours. Gabby does my hair. She handles my hair with care. However all of the hairdressers are qualified. But everyone has their favorite and preferred stylist to go to. read more

No matter who you get in the salon, the ladies are nice. I'm never disappointed with my daughters hair or mine. They play gospel music(in Spanish) which I love. They can sometimes be a little careless with the heat or talking a little bit much and get distracted but they are so polite and nice it's a pleasure being there. read more

I went into blessed beauty salon to get my hair washed and blow dried so I can get some knotless braids, I didn't get a roller set or wrap or anything just a $20 wash and blow dry. The lady complemented me on my thick long hair. Then proceeded to wash my hair I also added a trim, two weeks later when it came time to wash my hair I was smelling a relaxer/perm smell and it was strong it wasn't the smell of burnt hair. My hair was falling out in the back I was in tears. This facility uses relaxers in their shampoo. I am devastated in my hair and feel like I have to start my hair journey all over. Found this salon a couple weeks ago. This is not a fancy salon but it's cozy. It feels like you are going to your cousins or aunties place, which is inviting. My stylist did a great job with my highlights. The prices are reasonable and the customer service is very good. To get my hair from dark brown to blonde will take a few sessions. So it's convenient that prices are affordable enough where it doesn't hurt your pocket too much. It's first come first serve so get there earlier. beware natural hair..these people claimed to be god fear , i should have known they were wicked when they open their doors and the first thing they did was pray. i went in last month with a head full of natural 4c hair and i came out with my hair chemically changed clearly and a bunch of heat damage..the woman in the first chair by the door is wicked she put something in my hair now my hair texture looks like it was slightly perm and bunch of hair burn out in the back of my head..and hair that keeps falling out from the roots . i went to confront them when i decided to wash my own hair and see what's going on .. all my hair gone just like that. my hair is straight and course not a texture my natural hair ever was. if you have natural hair with length watch out for those wicked green eyes workers look at my hair transformation .starting from how i' went in with my natural hair, what they did to my hair see how super extra straight and thin it looks and then hair dropping and was smelling for weeks burn chemical, and i was wearing a mask so didn't smell anything while in shop .then me washing my hair to finding straight pieces throughout my hair and hair g o n e... ** i definitely missed those old reviews with people having the exact experiences there. no wonder when i went back there the first thing they said was we don't put perm in shampoo even though i didn't say anything about perm...i wanted to know wth they put in my hair..as to why it looks like this now. read more

They did an amazing blow out on my natural hair but I was severely disappointed during my wash day the following week. My hair smelled so chemically strong and was falling out in clumps, while detangling. There are still small parts of my hair that are flat/stringy and have not fully reverted back to natural state, after deep conditioning and protein treatment. I have breakage at my crown which I have never had before. I hate to say it but, I think this is one of THOSEEE dominican shops. They're using relaxer in the shampoo/conditioner. It's bad practice and should be illegal because us naturalist have not consented to any chemical treatment. I'm very disappointed because the services were great and affordable but, now my hair is suffering. Treating natural hair is already frustrating as is and set backs like this just make you want to quit it. SHAME ON THIS SALON! read more

Be aware they have relaxer in their conditioner. Thank goodness my natural hair wasn't completely damaged, but I looked up their conditioner for proof. Furthermore when I washed my hair I had stringy ends and that relaxer smell (any lady with a perm knows that smell all too well). I love The Blessed Salon, however I don't think I will be returning after today. Today the bathroom was out of order and I had to wait for a hair dryer after my hair being rolled. I nor any other customers were privy to this. I'm highly disappointed that a salon at 930am on a Saturday morning with at least 15 women already either getting there hair washed or blown , and no working bathroom . I'm highly irritated and will definitely not return . And to top it off I had to find a bodega just to use the restroom. Thank the High Heavens that the older gentleman in the bodega was nice enough to let me use his facilities. To top it off all the hair dryers were being used by patrons , so patrons whose hair were already rolled were told to wait in the waiting area to a hair dryer became available. The wait time was at least 20-25 mins. This is just to much and unfair to me , no working bathrooms plus the wait time for the hair dryers . Amazing prices (my hair is thick/full and shoulder length African American natural hair: $20 for deep condition + doubie) ...friendly service and so many beautiful babies coming to visit! I had a couple ladies started in front of me but there was practically no wait. In and out in less than 2 hours. Wish I could give a full 5stars but the heat was a bit harsh directly to my scalp, but as a Traditional Dominican salon I guess it's to be expected. I discovered this place in December through YELP of course and since then I've been coming here for my blow outs ,trims and hair cuts between having my faux locs ... l be also have put my mom and aunt on and they have enjoyed it as well ... I love Denise and gabby they always take me for basic to baddie but really all the girls are awesome .... I have read the other reviews about the "mean women" that washes hair lol and I somewhat agree but I think it's mostly a language barrier so whenever I sit in her seat I make sure to greet her with a smile and hello because I don't need that negative energy going through my scalp lol but great salon I don't mind spending money here .... Had a great experience here with my stylist Rosie. I am a 4c natural with shoulder length hair. After a wash and condition, Rosie set my hair and then blew it out. It was super hot but bearable. After the blow dry, she flat ironed to make sure it was bone straight.. and it was. Although I'm sure I committed all sorts of natural hair sin , my hair was full of body and super straight. I am a bit curious to see if my natural curl will return ... that said, if you want your hair straight , this is the place to go. The ladies here are incredible and make you feel right at home This is a true "neighborhood" spot. Complete with the DVD man and chicken eating clients.. So fast forward two and a half years later , a baby later ( they cared for my hair while I was pregnant and after the baby when it started to fall out), and three years perm free this place is still the best in Newark NJ!!! The only down fall is that they get busy on Saturday's and Sunday's but who doesn't get busy when your giving good service !!!! They're ok. The fat one on the end who does the weaves has a very nasty attitude but other than that the other girls are pretty good. After I got the fat chick straightened out everything else was good. I took a star off due to her stank attitude and nasty disposition. I'm originally from the area but I moved to Georgia several years ago. I was back in the area visiting and my usual spot, Platinum Doobies on Washington St., was closed. Made my way over to this spot and with the exception of big nasty, everything was decent. Won't be back though. The only shitty thing about this place is the neighborhood it's in because it's hard to get to a train from here and there really is no place to eat however the salon itself is pretty and they do a great job including with my 4c hair. Ive never had to wait terribly long but I do come during the week. They did a great highlight job the first time then they did a blowout perfectly the second time. I came home from college for the weekend and wanted to get a quick doobie. Luckily, I found a place that was open on a Sunday. This place can accommodate a lot of people and they move pretty quickly, but it is NOT natural girl friendly. I understand that black hair is a bit more course than Latina hair, however; I believe that if a customer knows how they want their hair handled (comb from the tip to the root) and tells you exact products to be used (the products I give you for my hair) - the only thing to do is follow instructions. New favorite salon...for now! Their prices are reasonable and they do a big range of hair styles or whatever you need done to your hair. The staff is friendly and they actually speak good English! It is pretty organized when you come here, they have you sign in and they go off of who ever name is next on the list on busy days. Weekdays it is slower and you can get in and out faster. Weekends are super busy and you'll probably be waiting for at least an hour to even get to washing station. It's smaller in the inside and not a huge sitting area for waiting on their busy days. I needed a salon last minute and decided to try Yelp to help me. I am very particular about my hair and nervous to try a new salon with this COVID season especially. I was a little apprehensive when I got to location ( interesting area) but I am glad I gave it a chance. They took my temperature when I walked in. When my dominican hair salon closed in Passaic and I moved to essex I was desperate to find a nearby Dominican salon and I found this one. Everyone is welcoming and they go by sign in sheet to avoid any problems arises because it is in Newark. The girls do a great job (especially Nikki) and prices are decent for a wash and set. The biggest issue is the WAIT. its ridiculous. Waiting for 30 mins just to get your hair washed and into rollers when dryers are available is just crazy to me and then another 30 mins after getting out the dryer to get your hair blown out. Weekends are packed and You have sometimes can go up to 3-4 hours t this salon...But like i said they do a great job with your hair. read more
