Not only do they sell sandwiches (pulled pork, smoked chicken, brisket and more) but you can also get their pork, brisket or chicken in vacuum sealed bags to go. It's really handy for camping - just heat the bag in a pot of water and - boom! - that's dinner. You can also buy their really nice, tangy sauce to go with it. Portions = Texas size Quality = Almost as good as southern style Tennessee/Texas BBQ Ribs = Very good, flavorful, not hard to separate and plenty of meat. Had a nice morning at Darlington Provincial Park, and then decided to finally get some lunch. Headed into town and came across Stuttering John's. There was no one else there when we went in, but the decor was quite unique and very fun. Decided to share a platter of different barbeque options, and it was decinitely a great choice. Ribs, chorizo, and pulled chicken came together on a platter with amazing fries! They all had a different flavor them, giving the platter an amazing depth to it. They had homemade ketchup as well, which was sweeter and some of the best I've had. Service was really good, but that may have been due to the fact we were the only ones there. Came to check up on us regularly and chatted with us as well. They seemed to have a food truck packed outside as well, so that would be an awesome find too. I've seen their Food Truck at different Food Festivals in Durham Region, have had their Pulled Pork Sandwich before but this is only my 2nd time dining at Stuttering John's. This place is literally a 'Hidden' Gem. This new location has been operating for 9mth and we only noticed this place about a month ago. We came here for a late lunch a few weeks ago, and was greeted by this super friendly waiter (wish I remember his name, he's a flight attendant), he realized we were 1stTimers and explained the menu to us very passionately, we ordered a Pulled Pork sandwich and a Poutine with Brisket..... BIG Mistake! The Poutine was so big that I was only able to eat 25% of it, so we packed it home and turned it into another great meal. They are very generous with their portion, gave me tons of Briskets. If you are craving for some Gourmet Poutine, don't even bother to go to Sam's, just go to Stuttering John's! It's Bigger, Better and Cheaper there! Me and my husband decided to give Stuttering John's another try last night. We got their at about 8:30pm last night (restaurant closes at 10pm) it wasn't busy at all. We were greeted by the owner (It's an older lady) I think. The first impression wasn't great because the first thing she did when we walked in was looking at her watch and reluctantly said 'table for 2?' We ordered The Three King (Meat Platter with Flank Meat, Pulled Pork & Half a rack of Ribs + Tons of Fries!) and a Pound of Hot Wings. Once again our eyes were bigger than our stomach. The meat platter is really meant for two person, it's only $26...... I didn't know so I ordered some wings too. The wings were ok, just your regular pub style hot wings, you can't go wrong with that. They were huge too! I can't really say their BBQ meat are great though. Maybe it's because I've tried other Smokeshouses downtown like Hogtown Smokes. Their ribs has good flavor but they are not fall-off-the-bone tender. It was chewy and I had to struggle to get all the meat out. The Flank was a bit tough too, wish they were more generous with the BBQ sauce. The Pulled Pork was not bad. But for that price I really can't complain. The Highlight of my meal was their Grilled Corn on the Cob. I saw this one customer having it with her meal so I got curious and asked the owner if I could order one on the side. Even though it's not available to order as a side on their menu but she hooked me up anyway for FREE! It's just a grilled ear of corn brushed with Aioli and spice. It was so friggin' delicious!!! We were the last customers to leave, the chef also made an effort to greet us making sure everything was ok. Another Positive Note: I liked my sauce SPICY! So I asked the owner if I can have some hot sauce. She poured me hot sauce in a small container and warned me it's HOT! She said it's the hottest sauce from Jungle Heat, they know the owner of Jungle Heat well. (RESPECT) I'm a big fan of Jungle Heat's hot sauce cos it tastes natural without any chemical. I will definitely come back for sure. For those in Durham Region, definitely check out this place. This is also an ideal venue for team outings at work and Xmas party. I would give this place 3 stars on their food plus 1 more star for the price and portion. read more

One of the best restaurants in all Durham. I ordered on Mother's Day and the pick up time was only 20 minutes. I ordered two appetizers, onion petals, and a Cesar salad. The ribs are tasty, the pulled pork was a bit dry, and the beef brisket was the star of the show. I also ordered the fried chicken with mash, which was also very good and my child loved it. Oh, and did I mention the cornbread? They even use cornbread croutons. For the amount of food you get, I would usually pay double the price in Toronto. I just got back from here and my fingers smell like a campfire - this place is legit!!! A great selection of local beer from Bowmanville, Port Perry, and Uxbridge. The ribs were just about perfect, excellent "chip-truck" fries, good coleslaw, and homemade ketchup that was a nice (delicious) surprise. Just moved to the area and went here for dinner. The food was great. They had a nice offering of local craft beers. The decro is lacking. Beautiful fireplace that could be more of a focal point. The service was not to the same quality as the food. It wasn't very busy and we had to wait a fair bit for our drinks and she also forgot our side of gravy (no a huge deal) but that was the only issue with the meal. The food had so much amazing flavor I had the chicken sandwich with the absolutely mouth watering fries and the gravy had a touch of smoke to it as well which made it the perfect touch. Went for dinner recently. Food was excellent! I was surprised at how quiet it was in the restaurant but it was the saturday before easter. Server did a wonderful job of ensuring we were looked after without being pushy considering how slow the rest of the restaurant was. They also have a good selection of local craft beers. We had the pulled pork poutine which is delicious (order it as a meal not a starter), the steak was good and came cooked exactly as requested. A friend and I stopped in for lunch on a recent Saturday afternoon. The restaurant was very quiet at 1:30 with only one other occupied table. I ordered the 1/2 rack of ribs and was sadly disappointed with my fare. My rib order was tough, difficult to separate and was more knuckles than ribs. I could get little meat without a great fuss and as stated, the meat was tough and tasteless and membraneous. Most unpleasant. I finally gave up and nibbled on the fries. I mentioned my disappointment to our waiter as he presented the bill. A nice fellow but a bit stuck for an explanation except to say the ribs are a St Louis cut and a knuckle or two is to be expected. It sounded to me like this particular cut was the least prime cut for ribs. Nice to know at $18 for a half rack of knuckles and grissel. To the waiter's credit, and he was most pleasant, he called the owner and was OKed to give me a 20% discount on the meal. Not enough to make me come back though. read more

Visited this restaurant on three occasions. Great fries, fresh salad , OK wings , BBQ ribs vary from being quite good to being extremely tough. Last time we complained but were told : "chef said he'll try and do better next time" . If you want to "roll the dice" the beer is very good.
