My fiance brought is Fender Deville Tube Amp here to get repaired, he brought it into the store with the case. The Tube Amp did get fixed but the case was not returned. We told them about this issue and one guy said he couldn't find it, another guy goes he never brought it. We clearly brought the amp in with it's case and these people lost it. Not too pleased. -Then we brought in his Fender Jaguar to get fixed and they charged him for the fix, then a few weeks later the wiring issue came up again and we ended up bringing the guitar to the house of guitars, where they were able to fix the issue. It seems like they had some inexperienced people working in the back that are new to guitar repairs, which made us booth not feel at ease. -The store is really clean inside and some pieces are really cool and unique, what they are asking for some of these instruments is a little bit outrageous compared to what I have seen at other local shops. But if you live on the west side towards Greece, Brockport, Spencerport and you don't want to drive else where, this is your place. I guess? -Don't come here to get anything repaired as you most likely won't get your case back and the issue won't be fixed. read more

I have done business with Stutzmans for over 50 years, and have purchased many instruments from them. Prices are fair, and resale/trade ins are honest. The quality of instruments is excellent, and the staff are well informed. There is no hype or sales pressure. Having traveled around the US, I think Rochester can be proud of its guitar retailers. Dave and family have captured the high-end and personal facet of the market. Going this week to buy a beginner guitar for a nephew. I have purchased guitars and accessories from Stutzman's since the 1980s. They have always been great about repairs and are very knowledgeable. Most recently, I had to have the pickup system of an electric bass repaired. It was making an awful intermittent noise while plugged in. They ended up replacing most of the electronics, and it is now perfectly quiet. The charge was very reasonable for all of the work they did. Although it is a 45 minute drive I have all the work done on my acoustic guitars there. I have also purchased guitars there as well. Dave has always been fair and the repair team has done a good job. (For some old tube amp work ... they referred me to John Nau.) I recommend Stuzman's to my students because I know that Dave will take good care of them and set them up with he proper guitar. High quality instruments, service and repairs. The professional working musician can build up a rapport easily with the owners and staff. You'll find they know very quickly who you are, how you treat your instruments, the brands of accessories you use, your price capabilities and the kind of services you might need. They'll be honest with you on repairs - if it really needs $400 of work, they're not kidding, but if it's just a loose wire they're often able to take care of it right then and there at no charge. You might pay a little more at Stutzman's for some stuff but the personal attention is worth every penny. read more

This is a really nice boutique-type store. They really specialize in acoustic instruments, though they also take in (and farm out--often to John Nau, who does excellent work) repair jobs on electric instruments and amps. As per this type of store, you can expect a little snootiness from some of the employees if you bring them a real rock/punk/metal instrument to work on, but then again this isn't really the venue for that sort of thing. They do also sell instruments and amps here, and have quite a wide selection of acoustic guitars, mandolins, fiddles, dulcimers, etc. One fun thing they do here is their annual lawn sale, when they trot out all of their lingering merchandise and slash prices to clearance levels. Some eccentric and charming finds can be made then, but New York State's motto isn't "caveat emptor" for nothing--educate yourself before you buy. Incidentally, this place is the reason the Rochester branch of Guitar Center has to bill itself as the "Hollywood Guitar Center"--they took legal action to prevent possible confusion between the two businesses. read more

I have done business with Guitar Center since 1968 when Eldon sold instruments out of the Jay St. store and his Spencerport Home. Dave has continued the tradition of friendly service, expertise, and great instruments. They have stood behind every instrument I ever purchased, and offered fair resale when it was time to move up. The acoustic selection is good, across the price range, new and used. What I especially like about Stutzmans is that you can be a totally inexperienced musician, and trust that you will get an instrument that's worth the price. If you have $150 to spend you will get a guitar that's worth that price and playable. They don't carry poor instruments. I send wannabee players and gifting parents to Stutzmans, knowing they will get appropriate value, regardless of their familiarity with guitar. The staff is especially knowledgable, patient, and friendly. You can "browse" in a relaxed atmosphere. read more
