In summary: less red, closer to blonde than my natural hair color is, and NOT chunky highlights. I've included a photo of my hair color before for reference. The stylist I saw was so lovely and friendly! She did a very good job lifting out the red with color remover, leaving it pretty light, and then dyed it back to a base brown color. These highlights did not come out very well at all. My total for this appointment was $215, and I do not feel that the outcome reflects this cost. These pictures are from a day after the appointment. I contacted the store with the same pictures and expressed my concerns and the owner responded to me very quickly (within an hour or so!). She then told me that she spoke with the (again, very lovely) stylist. I do think it is important to note that this stylist was remedying a similar highlight situation on a different client at the same time as my appointment. The owner offered me the solution to either also remedy with the same stylist, or to pay full price to see a different stylist. I am a little worried to see the same stylist (NOT because of her personality or anything, but because of this outcome, which appears to have also happened to another lady very recently), but I cannot afford to pay this price again. The owner was not willing to entertain a partial refund, remedy with an alternate stylist at a reduced cost, or store credit towards a future service. The owner was very quick to respond which I did appreciate and the stylist was so nice. I will update this review if I do end up having a different outcome, but just wanted to share my experience, and I feel a little embarrassed to be wearing this hair color situation out in public! Yikes! Hope it all works out for my hair.

My hair color was a light brown with golden/red undertones. I had spoken with my sister who is a cosmetologist as well as two other friends who work at hair salons and they all told me that what I wanted would be easy to have done and not be that expensive. I went into InStyle for the first time for my appointment with Jesse. I let her know what I wanted thinking there would be no issue and she immediately took on a very argumentative tone with me regardless of the polite tone that I speak to everyone in. She has no respect for her clients or their wishes whatsoever. I ended up getting a drab basic dark brown all-over color which costed my $125. Back in Jan. I had the same exact service done, an all-over color and cut, at Younique (which I suggest you go to instead) and it was only $95 and the service was infinitely better. I don't enjoy being yelled at by someone who I am paying - she honestly created a scene. I wish I had the guts to grab my bag and walk out the door the first time she started raising her voice and and talking to me so fast and aggressive. Also, I asked for an inch or two off my ends and she only dusted them with a minimal trim. I have never had this problem anywhere as most stylists cut off too much but I barely felt or saw the scissors touch my hair. She said this was because my hair was healthy, however part of her reasoning in not wanting to do the blonde pieces was that it would leave my hair damaged. I told her I had tried blondes in my hair before and it took the process well but she likely wasn't listening to me. Unbelievable. The other ladies that work there seemed like they would have given me equally unsatisfying service. This is honestly a horrible salon. The pictures on Google make it look ritzy and inviting but it is absolute trash I tell you.
