I'm updating my review to reflect that Stylish Patina is in a new location--along the main drag in Falls Church on Broad Street. It's a great location by tons of restaurants and stores. The new shop is smaller and more cozy than the old space. As of mid-2021, it seems like the store is still in the process of becoming homey and curated the way the old one was. But they still had exactly what I came in for--chalk paint. The wood block swatches and the chalk painted furniture in the store makes this a great place to find what you're looking for. I'm also a fan of the cards and paper products here. There always seems to be a little something that catches my eye. She hires people who are not skilled about the store's product line or Chalk painting. This summer a young sales person claimed that the gold leaf contained several colors of gold leaf. Furthermore the girl told me that a trio of gilding colors was for marketing only. Yet I was able to load this tris product in to my shopping cart when I looked online later in the day. I have not tried to get a refund from Kelly because she would take her help's side. Ok everyone has $100 to throwaway. Kelly has lost my biz to Woodcraft and Amazon. read more

Thanks to the help of everyone at Stylish Patina I was able to repaint my daughter's bed beautifully. I had no idea what I was doing but after they explained thoroughly what to do, I was was able to paint the bed and it turned out flawless! I had been following Stylish Patina on Instagram for sometime and I liked what I saw posted, however, when I went into the store for the first time last week, I was highly disappointed at the customer service (or lack there of). I came in on a weekday, in the afternoon, so I didn't think it would be too crowded--there was only one other customer, yet both my sister and I felt completely ignored by the person behind the register. We said 'hello' first. There seems to be more personality on their social media presence than there is in person. I had several celebrations coming up and was ready to explore and spend, but because we received no willingness for assistance, we just had to leave--if you're looking for a lovely shopping experience, this place is not it. Had I read these other terrible reviews before our visit, I would have not even walked in. read more

Bought a rocking chair from owner back when she was selling only on etsy and at Stiflel and Capra-chair is fantastic fyi-store is ok...good if you need chalk paint and finishing supply (which is what I use it for)-otherwise sells mostly knick knacks like cards, notepads, novelties etc...and a lot of it is newly manufactured-"vintage inspired"...except the refurbished furniture and some dishes...I was hoping it would be more furniture and refinishing goods based with vintage hardware and items etc and less newly manufactured goods. Her furniture items are lovely but not much available in the store itself...better found at her barn sales (which I think we're discontinued) read more

DO NOT TAKE THE CLASSES! Big rip-off and huge disappointment. I never write reviews and this is the first time I've signed up for Yelp-- However, I feel so strongly about what a waste of time and money the class was that I need to speak up here. I absolutely do NOT recommend the classes offered by Stylish Patina. The amount of money you would spend on the class (around $115) would be much better spent on buying some of the products used during the class, such as Annie's Sloan's chalk paint. The Advanced Techniques Chalk Paint class: Yikes-- nasty old wood boards for us to work with, nasty old, caked paint brushes. Only one board and paint brush per person and we were using several different materials from chalk paint, pearl of plaster, to gold leaf. We didn't even have a cup of water to rinse our brushes in. Arg! To add a tinge of awkwardness for the students, we all had to share the materials, including the stencils. I would think for the price paid, we would have had at least our own, clean and ready-to-go materials to work with. Teacher: The instructor was not very knowledgeable about the materials, so we spent most of the time on our own making bigger messes. We would have been better off buying the materials and experimenting with them at home w/ some guidance from You Tube. Other peeves-- Timing: The class was supposed to be two full hours, but ended abruptly after an hour and a half. Location: The class confirmation did not come w/ the address of the class location, which is different than the shop. The Web site was "temporarily unavailable" the day of the class, so it was hard to figure out where to go. I had to go to the shop first, and the very rude sales clerk vaguely described where to go for the class. Once there, there was NO sign on the door indicating we were in the right place. (However, I do take some blame here for not researching the location well in advance of the class.) All in all, a waste of time and money. Don't do it!!! Your money would be much better spent on several pints of the paint and wax. read more

Great little shop with some really great pieces. Recommended by a friend when looking for an Annie Sloan Chalk Paint stockist. Complete selection of Annie Sloan materials available to refinish just about everything. Furniture pieces and accessories all appeared to reasonably priced. I walked out with the Annie Sloan paint I went in for and a vintage framed print. Will definitely visit from time to time to see what they have gotten in. read more

Very cute home decor store in Falls Church. They carry chalk paint now!

If you are in the market for a large piece of painted vintage furniture, this may be a good bet for you, especially the "barn sales", but the shop left me cold. The people working ignored me, even when I put my purchase on the counter by the register. The owner states she's going for a "Lucketts vibe" but the shop was pretty sparse on items other than large furniture pieces and "gifty" items like cute notebooks, etc. A few vintage bits, some newer things spread around (I saw the same set of cute S&P shakers in at least 4 places in the store) and a paint display that took up about 1/4 of the entire shop (I did visit in order to buy some Chalk Paint--they are the closest dealer in NoVa). Some small items were not priced and I was not sure if they were for sale or just for display. I won't be heading back unless I need more paint. read more

This is cliché, but I always say I'm going to write a review about a bad experience, and then never do. But something today is inspiring me to actually write a review about our experience at Stylish Patina today. I found a Craigslist ad for the store and checked out their Etsy store. I've been looking for a custom dresser. I convinced my boyfriend to go with me to go to their Falls Church store today. We arrived around 2:15pm and there was only one other customer in the store. We hardly received a glance and a weak "hello" from whom I presume is the owner when we walked in, and then she went back to whatever she was attempting to busy herself with on a shelf off to the side. There was one other customer when we arrived who was looking at the chalk paint, who then took a good portion of the owner's(?) time about what paint color/technique/etc was best. This was totally ok with my boyfriend and me, as we checked out all the furniture. But after the other customer left and we remained the only customers, the owner(?) still did nothing to engage us...what brought us in, how we heard about the store, etc. We clearly were looking at $500-700 pieces of furniture over and over, discussing somewhat loudly whether this piece would work better than another...still nothing from the owner(?). Admittedly, I didn't approach her to ask questions, but...she should have tried to engage us, sell to us, find out what we're looking for, yet nothing. Maybe we didn't look like typical customers, I don't know...but I feel you should never judge potential customers...at least pretend to care. We walked out around 2:50pm (we were in there almost 40 minutes, so long enough to be considered legit customers) after the owner(?) hid behind the counter in the back on her phone. The furniture we were looking at was amazingly refurbished (so I'll give the store 2 stars), and I'm sad that we didn't have a conversation with the owner(?) about the furniture. She definitely would have gotten our business today had she actually talked with us. read more

Visited this store for the first time yesterday. I had called to see if they had certain colors in chalk paint and they were very helpful on the phone. Stopped by later to pick it up and the shop staff were quite helpful. I've never used chalk paint before so the staff person gave me a few tips. I love that they have sample sizes of paint. Loved the curated selection of gifts, stationary and household items. Will definitely be back for more paint and hostess gifts! read more

They have beautiful painted furniture at reasonable prices, and they also sell both chalk and milk paint and are willing to answer questions about the paint and how to apply it. I would have given it five stars if it weren't for a negative experience I had recently. I bought two new metal counter stools at $99 each at their warehouse sale. They were both slightly scratched and dented, but they sell "as is" (even new stuff) and would not go down on the price. We still bought them (foolishly, in retrospect). A few days later, I saw the exact same stools at Target for $50 each. Boy, did I feel like a sucker. I took pictures of the Target stool and emailed them the pictures asking them if there was anything they could do. Their response, in a nutshell, was that they don't take returns on furniture. It really was not the answer I was expecting. I thought a small, local store (and one at which I had already spent hundreds of dollars) wouldn't be so beholden to policy like a big corporate store and would be willing to bend a little to make a customer happy. It didn't necessarily have to be a return. They could have done something creative. Furthermore, while shopping at Homegoods a few days ago, I saw another piece I had been eyeing at the Stylish Patina warehouse for $99. Guess how much it was at Homegoods? $60. Bottom line: don't buy anything new here, because you'll be kicking yourself later when you see it elsewhere for cheaper. Just go for the one-of-a-kind pieces and keep in mind that their store rules are absolutely inflexible no matter how loyal a customer you are. read more
