We were planning to donate an entire bedroom set to Habitat for Humanity Chantilly. They required pictures in advance and weeks of lead time, but it is for a good cause. We put it out and told them to knock on the door to ask for help getting it in the truck because it was too much furniture to put on the curb and it was on our walkway. They came, left and did not bother to even let us know that they weren't picking it up because - you guessed it - it wasn't on the curb. Now we have 6 pieces of furniture that will not go to people who need it. Never again will I work with Habitat for Humanity. read more

This was easy to find and there's relatively good parking, but make sure you go in from the far end as it's a one-way parking lot They were well-stocked in each of the categories. A decent amount of furniture, electronics, hardware, and all well organized. I'm intrigued that they also have a thrift store style of area with things that look like they were donated from peoples homes instead of businesses. Other restores, I have been to look to be stocked only from local business excess inventory . Pricing was fair and the furniture items seem to be in relatively decent condition. It is worth stopping by to see if they have what you need and as with all thrift and resale stores you may have to go multiple times to find what you want. read more

This Habitat ReStore is a straightforward thrift shop with a particular focus on furniture, and with a decent section of building finishing materials (tiles and such) and home appliances for those looking to save a little on decent quality stuff for a home DIY job. While furniture, appliances, and certain building materials take up much of the floor space, they have sections with vinyl records, books, DVDs, electronics, hand and power tools, home appliances, etc. If you need an affordable bookshelf, dining table, etc., for your house, it's worth checking here. Ditto if you need a cheap refrigerator or to affordably tile a shower. I wouldn't say that the selection or prices are exceptional, but if you find something that works for you, it'll be a lot cheaper than buying new at retail, and it helps support a good cause. read more

Habitat for Humanity has been my go to place for finding things for my home. Especially as the budget DIY homeowner. I have been to this location a few times and have purchased porcelain tiles, lighting for my bathrooms, glass globes, and other things as needed. This would be the perfect place if you are looking for appliances, furniture, vanities and tops, cabinets, doors, windies, etc. Definitely stop here before heading to a big box store. You can find gems all the time here. If there is something in particular you need, be sure to check with management on days they expect certain items in. Don't forget they accept donations as well. Wanting to donate building supplies at a considerable value, I looked up the closest Habitat for Humanity ReStore location. I read the website that advertised the Pickett St. store is open today 12/27 at 10:00 am. Sure enough, after packing my truck with the supplies, a 30 minute drive thru traffic, I find the store closed for the entire week between Christmas and New Years. Very nice for employees, really! Care a little bit about your customers and donors and advertise your holiday closing on the internet! You wasted my time and probably many others. Frustrated with a truck full of supplies. They often sell brand new high-end furniture samples here and lots of light fixtures etc. I did see a rat running across the floor today as I browsed. It occurred to me that there is definitely risk in buying any soft furnishings here like sofas chairs pillows etc. because you could literally take home a rat bedbugs lice etc. I don't want to underplay the value and mission of this organization But I would suggest that they step up their pest control efforts. While I support the Habitat mission, this ReStore location is ridiculously overpriced on old items that were given to them. In addition, they have old items but turn away antique donations. Apparently they don't realize many people are restoring old homes in the DC area and want antique doorknobs, doors, windows, etc. I was told they would take them but would recycle them. They apparently haven't heard of Community Forklift. If it weren't so far from where I live, I'd only donate to them. Every time I visit this Restore I'm reminded why I never go to this location. I'm a fan of buying used items, especially tools. It keeps them out of the landfills, and I like the heavier, old ones when most don't. However, when your 40 year old, donated power tools are priced higher than new ones with a warranty from Lowe's, we have a problem. You want me to take a gamble on old tools that may or may not work and charge me more than Lowe's? No thanks. I'd like to support your cause, but I'm not paying more for a used item than a new one. I loved the empty plastic power tool cases that you were charging $30/each for. As far as home furnishings...how about a lamp for $65, that went out of style in 1980? Don't like that one? How about one you can buy at Target for $60...gently used for the great price of $150? No? I like repurposing, but these non-profits in the D.C. area are plain greedy. Items are donated...meaning they are free to you. However, they are not nicer than new items from the store, so your price point cannot be the same or 3x as much as new. People in most cases will have to take the item home, rewire it, repaint it or in other ways refurbish someone else's junk into something with using. Why would I go to all that hassle when I can just go buy a new item at the store for less money and time? The only thing you might get a deal on is some building supplies...but the same issues apply. I live right across the street, so this is a super convenient location if I'm ever looking for a cost-effective article of furniture. I stopped in here in early November to purchase a pre-owned dining room table so I could host Thanksgiving in my new condo. I didn't have the wherewithal to purchase a new one at full price. I stopped in and immediately found what I needed adjacent to the entrance. The desk clerk let me borrow a tape measure so I could measure the table and chairs, as well as the hatch of my car to ensure a good fit. Upon buying it ($150 for the table and four chairs), two volunteers immediately broke it down and loaded it into my Subaru. Quick, fast, and friendly. This business operates much like Salvation Army or Goodwill, taking in pre-owned household items and selling them for cheap. My understanding is that they will only take articles of furniture and appliances that have some resale value, or are in a good enough condition that they would willingly sell it. The inventory changes, naturally, so I may pop by once a month to see if there's anything worth an impulse buy. The only issue that I take is that they do not seem to issue refunds, only credit to the facility, which makes sense, given their business model. Therefore, make absolutely sure that your prospective purchase is what you want, and will last. read more

I was looking for a local thrift store and came across this location. Something didn't feel right from the outside and as soon as I walked in, I could see why. It's a large warehouse filled with a bunch of overpriced donated goods but it's VERY unorganized and there wasn't one person to ask questions. Don't be fooled by all the one star reviews, these are all the type of people that want a round of applause for donating to a good cause. I visited for the first time today, and although I didn't find anything to purchase, our experience with the staff was very pleasant. The manager introduced himself and told my husband and I all about the store and about how we can sign up online to get coupon and sale notifications. He was genuinely welcoming and more than happy to answer questions. Because of the nature in which this store receives its inventory, it is obvious that it can be very hit or miss depending on the week. Like many second-hand stores in this area, the prices are sometimes more than you would expect. But remember that this is a store with a cause and that is reflected in its pricing. I wouldn't say anything was outrageously priced, but it's not going to be dirt cheap. Coffee tables for 30 bucks, nice bar stools for $45 bucks, couches for like $150ish. I was ready to purchase a couch a few moments ago. It was on hold for an hour for someone else who may be coming back to get it, which the guy who worked there said they may not come back, who knows? Ok, so I was willing to stand there and wait as I was very interested in purchasing this couch. Manager/Supervisor "Dustin Miller" has Terrible management skilss, i was volunteering trying to help out, and usually i will come in and start cleaning and picking up trash without any questions, well apparently he didnt see me for like half an hour since i was in the bathroom taking a poop, so he proceeds to get mad at me and say that i wasnt doing anything the whole time and kicks me out of his store, in a very disrespectful way, i told him that i couldnt help lift heavy things since my leg is in pain yet he said he "doesnt give a fuck" and proceeded to kick me out of his store, i will now be in contact with ur district manager and ownerr of the store, because no volunteer should have to deal with this when coming in, terrible way to speak to people, saying i did nothing but i was breaking my back for a good hour straight for you guys! Show some respect to ur volunteers that dont have to come out of there way and with there busy schedule to have to deal with dustin millers fat ass plus he was sitting in the back employee only room where it's cluttered and was on his phone texting people while not doing his job, but then complains when i go to the bathroom for 30mins like grow up, then u wonder why u have no volunteers staying and that keep wanting to come back LMAO what a joke place too read more

Wayfair and Ace hardware donate great pieces : don't give up on them one day may be so so then BAM awesome items come in! Make sure you donate also, just drive up in the back of store. Contractors donate fireplaces, windows, doors, tiles, flooring. Loads of furniture and decor! Even full kitchens and top end appliances! The Manager and employees are very helpful, kind and joyful! They sub out delivery people and take time to help you with that if needed. I go in weekly best finds in area! Deals galore : got my granite tops there, glass French doors, fireplace mantel, deck set, dining room hutch all in excellent condition! Better prices than D.C. and MD. I think this place has so many overpriced used items but that is not the worst part. My biggest disappointment is in their management. There is this gentleman there with dreadlocks that I was told was the manager and every time I have gone, I have seen and heard him speak rudely to customers. Just today, I had to leave out of disappointment on how he spoke to a customer. It was very unprofessional and disrespectful. It discouraged me from even asking a question. He speaks down to people and his responses are sarcastic and rude. I would recommend for upper management to replace him and actually find a manager with good customer service skills and professionalism. read more

I've been there a dozen different times and my wife more than that, everyone we have dealt with has been helpful and courteous . Yes I have seen some items badly overpriced in my opinion, but many,many, more are bargains. I've bought furniture, from a leather couch and recliner, lamps, small tools , knickknacks and quite honestly have often found the prices negotiable to some degree. What some may need to realize while they are a non profit they are still a business, and scheduling to pick 25-45 dollars worth of material up from your home can often be a loosing proposition , fuel costs, insurance costs, building rent , payroll for the non volunteer employees can often cost more than they will resell that material for read more

I went to donate an item here and went out of my way to drive here to drop it off. I asked for a receipt and was told that they don't have any more receipts and that I can come back in a week. So, what if I go out of my way next week and they still don't have receipts. Anyways, I'll never donate to them again. I actually have a lot of stuff I was going to donate here, but no more.
