Had the best experience today's. Had some issues with the bike that I know I should have been able to figure out myself (but could t). Frankly I was embarrassed to bring the bike in, but the mechanic (I'm sorry I forgot your name,2/26 around 10 am) was SO kind and didn't make me feel like an idiot, actually showed me what was going on. Then gave me some things to watch out for and advised some service I should ask my LBS to do. Cleaned up my bike, put some lube on the chain and when I asked what I owe him he told me to have a great day and ride safe. You don't get service like this often especially from a bike shop when margins are tight. Thank you, sir! read more

I was in Salida for the Fibark weekend and I suddenly noticed that my rear Fox DPS shock had blown out seals. This was a bummer because I wanted to mountain bike this weekend since I was visiting from Denver. Even though this is Salida's busiest weekend Matt and Cam serviced my rear shock for me, explained basic shock maintenance to me and dialed in the correct psi on both rear and front shocks. These guys were professional, fast, passionate about what they do, knowledgeable and most importantly competent! I highly recommend Sub Culture and I'll be coming back in the future. read more

These guys are the best. I bought my last e-bike there and had a problem with it and Jason, the owner, went to bat for me with Specialized to get it figured out and fixed. It took a while and they were just as frustrated as me but they didnt giveup on it, and its like a new bike again. The shop guys are all easy to work with. I had a great experience renting a mountain bike from Subculture! The employees were super helpful in suggesting the right bike for me, and they also gave some suggestions for beginner trails in the area. As a woman I have had bad experiences in all-male bike shops in the past but didn't feel uncomfortable or belittled while at Subculture (thank goodness for no mansplaining!). I would highly recommend them and will be renting from them again in the future! read more

Edited review to 3 stars: a friend rented a bike from them while visiting and the experience was pretty smooth, the bike size selection leaves some riders having to choose up or down a size, other than that I the experience seemed to go well. read more

Took 2 old bikes for tune ups, one of them was my daily rider. When I picked them up, the bill was OVER 500 DOLLARS! They unnecessarily replaced brake cables, derailleur cables, and all sorts of stuff. Note to company...call someone when you are going to run up the bill to hundreds of dollars! I would have taken them somewhere else and avoid getting ripped off. Don't go here! read more

I'm a Salida local and I've tried this place twice now for repairs to my mountain bike. The first time was a few years ago when I had an older Santa Cruz bike. They kept trying to up-sell me to a new bike (wasn't in my budget at the time) and when I went out on the trail, my bike wasn't repaired properly and I had to take it back. Now, I tried them again on Saturday. They told me they would get to my bike within two days. I called on Tuesday afternoon and they said they would get to it Wed. Well it's Thursday and still they haven't even looked at it. So I got it and took it elsewhere, but will now miss a weeks worth of riding in the meantime. I'm a busy person. Really just looking for good repairs done right the first time in a reasonable time frame (or even close to the time quoted) and some communication if that's not going to happen. Guess that's too much to ask at Subculture. read more

I've rented a bike from them for the last 3 years while in Salida. They are Fan-fucking-tastic! Great staff, solid bikes, easy choice.

Had my specialized turbo levo in there three times and they couldn't fix it, it was set in European mode and would not run over 15mph. $150 later I took it to a real bike shop and the fixed it for nothing just a software change. Don't waist your time here read more

The shop rules!! Bent the hell out of my rotor on 4/11, and hit a different shop before going to Sub-Culture. The other shop said they would even look at something so bent. OK. So I went in to Sub-C, and was back on the trail with a new rotor in under 20 minutes. When In Salida, jut go here! Bringing those guys some beers as soon as I get back up there! read more

Bad ass is right! My rear disc brake was shot and I stopped in 5 mins after they closed and they hooked me up! I raced the next morning and wouldn't have finished without them! The next day when I was leaving I realized a piece fell of my bike rack. I had to have it to drive back to Denver. I ran back to Subculture and they again HOOKED me up. They single handedly saved my weekend! read more

I had high hopes for this shop but my experience was incredibly disappointing. My complaint is with Ryan, one of the mechanics. He's lazy. First issue, I dropped of my bike and had to wait three days for a basic tune up because I happened to drop it off the day before he started his weekend and apparently my bike just sat there with the other mechanics walking around it. The day I picked it up I went for a ride along the continental divide trail and didnt make it two miles before my chain was skipping all over the rear cassette. The tab for the work done was in excess off $300. I was pissed. He asked me if I had tried adjusting the shifting cable tension. Why should I have to do anything after it literally just left the shop. I was told to bring it back. I do, not happily, because it's fairly obvious I am dealing with incompetency but I want them to make it right. He tells me the problem is because the cassette was bent and he just tried to bend it back in shape initially. I tell him to replace it this time and I pay for same day service so I do not have to come back down the hill and lose another day from riding. As I am sitting around the shop in sun talking to other employees and customers I hear him running his mouth about me waiting around. Apparently he feels hurried. At the end of it he has replaced the cassette and cable/housing for another total of $270+. What did this clown do the first time? I have the opportunity to visit lots of bike shops because all I do is travel around and ride. This was by far the worst experience I have had. There are two otger bike shops right around the corner. Visit one of those places and save yourself lots of aggravation and money. FIRE THAT SLACKER. read more

I rented a mountain bike from Subculture this weekend on Saturday and Sunday. The guys working at the shop were nice and super helpful especially when it came to trail recommendations. I had two amazing days on the bike thanks to these guys. Thanks again to Jason and the other guys at the shop for making this an awesome weekend. This is a great bike shop! I have been a casual mountain biker rider on my 20+ year old Trek and very content until our recent trip to Salida. After realizing I needed a new bike, I stopped in to look at bikes and found the experience great. Braden was very helpful and knowledgeable about their products. He helped guide me to a bike that would help me move to the next level in riding. Jason and Wade were great in helping fit my new bike. I stopped back in several times over our time in Salida to ask questions about my new bike and the near by trails, they continued to be just as excited as I was and were great. Tons of high end rentals, but in my case I was here for a repair on my brand new full suspension carbon bike which has had gear issues for the two days I've owned it. Rafael took his time, in fact a team of folks there pitched in to figure out the issue, but Rafael's name is the only one I grabbed. Outstanding people, products and most of all mind-blowing knowledge of all bikes. I'm grateful this shop exists and I wish I lived here to utilize them exclusively. read more
