What a fun day for my adult son and me! We rented a Jeep and Craig mapped out some perfect trails to explore. His directions were spot on (my son also took notes in his phone which proved to be helpful). We found that we often had Maps and/or coverage on the trails, and Craig assured us that if by some slim chance we ran into trouble, couldn't reach him and didn't return by dark, he knew where we'd headed and would come after us. The Jeep ran great, we had zero issues and a ton of fun! He was actually pretty happy that we brought the Jeep back covered in mud. Tip: take a small cooler full of water and snacks. Broke down right outside of Salida and Mike responded immediately to provide a rental. His Jeeps and SUVs which are more typical rentals seemed nice, but I needed a cheaper option just to make it to Alamosa. The car he rented to me (under the "sedan" rental option on the site) was a very old Suburu that reeked of cigarette smoke and had a check engine light- although he informed it was just a fault of the oxygen sensor. Great customer service, unacceptable quality of rental vehicle. I'd rent from him again if I was in need in the area, but avoid all sedans. read more

Wow! Craig, the owner of Anderson Motor Company, and his lead mechanic, Tim, gave us special treatment in our hour of need. I cannot thank them enough and highly recommend their service! We were traveling from Oregon with our 3/4 ton pickup pulling a 35 ft fifth wheel, when our brakes went out high up the Monarch Pass. While we pulled over safely, we were in shock and despair. We were due at our reserved stay that day and it was Thursday before Memorial Day. Our pickup was towed to the nearest available garage in Salida, CO that evening while us and our trailer arrived in the only available RV Park around 11 pm. We were exhausted. When we contacted the garage, they likely would not get to our rig until the following Tuesday after memorial Day! In checking around for a rental and giving into four days additional stay expense with nothing to do, we told our story to Craig at Rocky Mountain Jeep Rentals in Salida. He told us that they also operated Anderson Motors doing auto repair, and his mechanic was willing to work over Memorial Day to help us. We had the pickup towed that morning to Anderson's, and Tim immediately checked it out, ordering parts for the next day. Craig gave us a loaner jeep with directions to tour downtown Salida and the next morning Tim had us on our way!
