Our 2-hour journey throughout the Middle Bighorn Sheep Canyon area gave us perfect vistas of the canyon, herds of bighorn sheep & just an all-around good time. The river flows were pretty fast at over 2,000 CFS for mid June. The only downsides were the weak air conditioning on the white vans taking our groups to the launch site & the lack of professional photographers the day we toured. We especially liked the small town feel of Cotopaxi where small groups & families weren't treated like a cattle call.

But they were also hilarious in how they educated us. You could tell they've been doing this for awhile because they knew how to navigate the river but also make sure we had a fun, rapid-filled time. Bighorn Park in Coaldale, CO was a great place to stay. It has RV accommodations and hookups,…read moremotel and cabins. There is also a separate showering space adjacent to the RV park. We stayed in a cabin, friends were in the motel, and RV park. All within close proximity so we could walk to each others site. While very rustic, they were very clean. Cabin was complete with two separate bedrooms, a kitchen (including all utensils and coffee pot), bathroom and living space. Incuded was shampoo, conditioner, soap, dish soap, coffee, dish rags, kitchen towels, bath towels, wash rags and a swamp cooler for air conditioning. It even had a crock pot as well as your basic pots and pans. Full sized refrigerator with freezer. Stove and oven. The motel rooms were about the same, less the separate bedrooms, kitchen and living space. It also has an outdoor pool and a commons area. The owners, Aaron and Brenda, couldn't have been any nicer or more accommodating. It is right off the highway, easy to find. A stream runs through the back of the property offering a scenic view. Would definitely stay there again.

I'm not sure where the money goes This campground earns because they sure don't put it into the upkeep of their grounds. Deteriorating picnic tables, burned out campfire rings, dirty exterior of cabins, broken patio furniture, dock with uneven curling boards, dog poop everywhere along the river.... the bridge crossing over to the tent side of the campground seemed to be stable. And several mornings there was no toilet paper in the bathroom, also not sure why you would want to carpet a campground bathroom, but there is carpet . Highway 50 runs right next to the campground so you hear traffic, the river is beautiful and clean. I would seek another campground in the area before I stayed at Sweetwater again
