Saturday morning once again and if you have read any of my past reviews you would know that…read moreSaturday mornings mean breakfast out!! yeah baby! We were parked and walking into town discussing where to go for a fry. 'Will it be Cafe Mocha? Will we try Cafolas again?' when we bumped into a friend of a friend. We told him our trouble and he recommended Jarrah - boy are we glad he did. The breakfast selection from 8am to 12 midday is quite outstanding with the choice of a small fry, a regular fry, a deluxe fry or a super deluxe fry - each time the price and the plate size goes up slightly. My beau ordered a super deluxe fry consisting of...wait for it... 2 sausages, 1 bacon, 2 eggs, beans, mushrooms, half a pancake, soda bread, a hash brown, potato bread, french toast and a fried tomato!! Holy Fry -Up! I just ordered scrambled eggs on toast. The food was good, the setting was comfortable and they provide the days papers while you wait. There is a separate section to purchase take-away sandwiches or ice cream, I have heard the sandwiches are also filled well, reasonably priced and tasty. I knew I was going to yelp the place once I'd finished eating it was just so nice. I have only two issues, you have to pay for your tea separate to the fry and there was a funny wee smell in the place - nothing weird or gross just a funny wee smell. I'll be back - maybe tomorrow!

I have had a baby recently and find this is a really handy place to call in, have a bite to eat and feed him. The staff are so friendly they really go out of their way to help me with the pram, holding the door open etc. Also because of the baby, they have no problem providing hot water for the bottle and bringing over my food. There is plenty of space to park my cargo which is a welcome change to other cafe's bunged out with tables. The carry out service is separate to the main seating area so you won't be disturbed while dinning. I would not go anywhere else to eat while in Newtownards.

This place is on the corner of two busy junctions in Ards and I have passed it many times and…read morethought it looked cool. The green and black exterior is nice and attractive, they have outdoor seating and they advertise amazing sounding flavored coffee in the window. Lunch time rolled around and I thought I'd drop in for a sarnie. I took a look at the over head menu and I liked the way they had listed their sandwiches - something hot with meat... something cold with chicken... something cold with meat....something hot with chicken....you get the idea. The names of the sandwiches are a bit different and quirky: A Square Dance, Peter Piper, Brutus or my sarnie of choice - Chicken tango. Chicken tango in chicken breast with mango salsa and mango chutney. Quite nice and very zingy on the tongue - not large enough for my liking though. I'm a growing girl and so a bigger baguette would be nicer. The sandwiches are £2.75 unless you decide to sit in then they become £3.75 - I hate that and I wasn't asked if I was sitting in or taking out and so there was some confusion. I took it away in the end. I also ordered a cup of tea to take away and, as per usual, it was far too hot and I couldn't hold the cup because it was sooooo hot - they should invest in the little cardboard bits to protect customers fingers. They do offer a delivery to your desk which is good and you are not limited to sandwiches. They do a nice little selection of lunchtime champ - champ and sausage, champ and bacon, champ and beef or champ and cheese - awesome idea for chilly rainy days. Overall an OK experience - there are bigger, nicer sandwiches in the area but this place was definitely worth a look - I'll be back at some stage but I'll not be rushing.

As we are always in Ards on a Saturday morning we always try different local places in our bid to find the ultimate fry for the best price. So far we have tried several places but we always come back to Cafe Mocha. There are several reasons. First of all the seating plan is perfect; if you want peace and quiet go upstairs or sit down stairs among the crowd at spacious tables if you prefer a bit more noise. Secondly, the tea pots don't dribble - this may seem trivial but this is a rarity I find. Thirdly, the fry comes with potato bread, soda bread and toast - essential packing. Also, the staff ask how you like your eggs - not many places do this but a runny egg can make your fry. I sound like a fry-freak but I do love a good fry. You also have the option of beans, which personally I feel are essential for a fry. Anyway, the cafe does sell more than just fries, you can get delicious milkshakes and gorgeous sandwiches at lunchtime. £6.25 for a choice of three fillings in a panini and a tea or coffee or a lovely, hearty vegetable broth for just £2.75! The fry quest continues but I think Cafe Mocha will be hard to beat!

The cafe is spread over two floors, and the decor is very modern and up to date. We did have reservations about this place before we went in, I must admit. I'n my experience, places like this are usually sickeningly overpriced and have an upsettingly small menu, but refreshingly, this is not the case with Cafe Mocha. They have a great menu of all the lunchtime meals I love, such as soups, sandwiches, toasties and a selection of hot food. We both decided to go for the baked potatoes, one with cheese and the other with tuna, and they were proper baked potatoes, not that microwaved muck that other places try to palm you off with. AND they were only £2.95 each. Bargain!

The shop on the Stranmillis Road, which took over from a failed Sandwich Bar (Dante's RIP) is their step away from corporate catering. When I walked into The Fatted Calf, I felt a little awkward. The décor is dark, very dark and the mood seemed to be too! It was around lunch time and I thought it would be a little more busy, but apart from myself there was only a solitary guy typing away at a window seat. The food is a mixture of nice homely dishes and sandwich bar, not to dissimilar from the sandwich bar that used to occupy the space. I was in a rush so I only had soup with a wheat roll, but it did hit the spot. The place hadn't been open very long and hopefully business will be able to pick up! If it had at least some people in it, it might look a little less like a money laundering scam for Vampires.

I called in with my mum one day and had a lovely pork, salad baguette which was so fantastic! They also cater for large functions and weddings and they do close the restaurant during wedding season as they're so busy. If you really want to sample their best? Get yourself down to St Georges market where they've an amazing spit roast on the go, and it really is melt in your mouth delish! The menu is a little more expensive than you're average sandwich place but the ingredients are so great, it's certainly worth it!
