This location defines what a Subway should be. Everything is clean, service is speedy, subs are awesome. Round of applause

Small town diner. Love it! You know who the regulars who come here and the staff knows them…read more The staff is super friendly. And the food comes out hefty. Lots of food with lots of grease. Beware cause you'll smell the food on you when you leave. Parking is around the town square (street parking). Overall, I would come back again. It's great supporting a local diner and the food was good.

Returning to Stately Breakwind Manor from a road gig in Ohio, There wasn't a lot to find vis-a-vis…read morebreakfast joints on the way. (the Denny's and IHOPs have all been terrorized by accountants, apparently, as their offerings have all declined exponentially in quality.) The nearest Cracker Barrel was literally 100 miles in front of us. Nope, I was in the mood to find the tiny local joint where folks in the kitchen had a mission. This quest has been front and center in all my travel plans since always, and when I win one, it's always a bonus (find my Yelp about "Lu-Bob's" in Greenville, IL) As wife was driving, I had time to reconnoiter Yelp, and the "Invention" in Milan (a few miles ahead) looked like a bullseye. Milan is a quaint little town with a picturesque town square, and the "Invention Restaurant" was smack dab on the corner- it looked EXACTLY as I hoped it would. It was crowded inside with Families (2nd good sign). We got seated in a tiny booth right next to the kitchen and restrooms- Siberia in any other place, but at least we wouldn't escape the eye of the Waitress when our drinks needed a refill. The Lady Chef expediting was a riot to watch and listen to. I could tell these folks were serious about their jobs. The Waitress seemed right out of central Casting-jovial in a good natured smartass way. Wife went with the "Triple"- Eggiwegs, Pancakes and Bacon. I swung with the special "Hot Trash" which was basically a "garbage plate"-a bit of everything mixed up with potatoes and eggs. (this one promised to be "spicy") A really Good Cup of strong coffee was the 3rd good sign, but the "Pepsi" was a bit suspect. Luckily that was the onliest barnacle on this visit. Not enough to foul the mood, but If we're ever there again, we're drinking Iced Tea. Both Breakfasts were max yummy. The "Hot Trash" wasn't especially spicy, but the dish was really great. I didn't care about the spicing. Wife was happy with hers-everything was top fresh. My plate was so sumptuous, I couldn't finish. Made sure the Chef knew it was a matter of capacity, not lack of quality. Prices VERY reasonable as well. This WAS a "small-town winner" for the books. One note-The unisex toilet was about as spacious as the last one I visited on a Boeing 737. Although clean, you could wash your hands in the sink without leaning forward on the throne. I'm a man of size, and if I was 10 pounds more, I would have had considerable trouble navigating the facility here. Not enough to sour me on the place, but I'm glad I didn't have to do major work there, if you know what I mean. If you're enroute to or returning from Cleveland, take the little detour off of I-80/90 and visit the Invention Restaurant in Milan...

There are only 5 or 6 tables and I got one that seated 2 people. I tasted the sauces that were on the table. The original was a thick molasses forward sauce with a finish that tastes like liquid smoke. The Sara's Spicy sauce was the same as the original with some cayenne added so you get a bit of heat at the end. The mustard sauce was very sweet with a mustard flavor. There was quite a bit of vinegar tang to it as well. The Slap Yo Mama sauce was a thin tomato vinegar forward sauce with a touch of heat to the finish. I got pulled pork, brisket, and smoked chicken. The pulled pork was stringy, crispy, and dry. The brisket was cut into pieces that reminds me of burnt ends. Was also very dry. I used a ton of sauce on the pork and brisket to make up for the dryness in the meat. When I ordered smoked chicken I didn't know it was going to be pulled chicken. That should be spelled out on the menu. The chicken was cooked perfect. Tender, moist and well seasoned. The smoke on all the meat has a burnt smoke taste. In a bad way. Green beans were fresh and were completely plain. I got the baked beans and those were very enjoyable. It's their own recipe and its actually very good. Mustard and brown sugar with some fresh veggies mixed in. I really liked it. The cornbread was also dry. My only advice to this place would be to figure out a way to cook your meats so they don't dry out. And smoke the food so it doesn't have a burnt ash tray taste and it would be much better.

They have a miniature course that looks a bit interesting. A lot of the usual stuff here. It has a lot of ice cream and frozen items. They have a decent selection of cold and hot stuff. It has a surprisingly large menu. We looked over it for a few minutes and got some frozen treats. I got a lemon lime slushie. This is a good size for what they charge you. It's about $2 for a medium. My female friend had the orange sherbet. It's about the same price for a medium bowl. This comes in a large cup all filled. It overall has a good value and they give you a lot for what they charge. Maybe it's not the best but they have good prices. There's also miniature golf so you can burn calories after eating treats.
