Welcome to DeKalb!…read more When the White Castle closed at this location before COVID, we were sad. Then McAlister's Deli came in. The place is completely redone - you wouldn't recognize it. Food wise, oh was this place good. My wife ordered The New Yorker with corned beef, pastrami, swiss and spicy brown mustard on marbled rye, and I had their Horseradish Roast Beef & Cheddar, which had black angus roast beef, sharp cheddar, red onions, and horseradish sauce on a toasted ciabatta. Listen carefully when you make your order - they ask you if you want a pickle. The pickles are good. My wife went with their Choose 2 option, and got a half a sandwich and a cup of soup. I got the regular sandwich with a bag of Ms. Vickers Salt and Vinegar chips. While they don't have the fountain where you can get it, the staff makes regular tours and offers free refills for soft drinks, and also asks you if your food is okay. My wife enjoyed her New Yorker, and I enjoyed the Horseradish Roast Beef and Cheddar. It had enough Horseradish to taste good, and the drinks tasted great. The place is completely redone, is attractive and clean, with very good service. We'll be back!

Lord, where to start…read more... The reviews were mixed at best, but we haven't been here in a while so we figured we'd give it another chance. Walking in and seeing new trim around the windows - okay, good sign. Also seeing a paint can on a table....? Okay, not a good sign. We decided to try this place again because we saw a sizzling steak on their roadside reader board as we drove back into town from the south. The last few times we went here, it was sandwiches only, so maybe the new owners were moving to the next level? Inside, you see a sign Salt 7. The bill reads C.C.S. Golf LLC. The menu - Salt 251. Confused yet? We ordered their Lobster Dip Appetizer. The photo only shows half of it. My wife said "I couldn't find any Lobster in it." Neither could I. It was tasty, but if you say Lobster Dip, shouldn't you find some Lobster in it? From there, we waited. And waited. And waited. And finally, the waitress / bartender who was working the restaurant by herself (while the two owners were doing something else) stopped by and took our drink and entrée orders. For drinks, I ordered a Manhattan, and my wife ordered a Gin Martini. The combination waitress / bartender admitted she had to look that one up. Both drinks were okay, I've had better Manhattans. For entrees, my wife ordered their Grilled Shrimp Scampi and I had their 8 ounce Garlic Sirloin. This took a fair amount of time, around 20 minutes to plate. Both dishes came with a nice, fresh salad, with dressing in a small cup on the side. Given the size of the salad, they needed to provide more dressing. I was scraping the rest of it out of the small plastic serving cup. On to the entrees: Shrimp Scampi That's a pretty regular dish - grilled shrimp sautéed in butter, garlic and white wine and served in that sauce. The grilled shrimp was there with some seasoning, but the rest which makes it Scampi wasn't there. Plus, the fresh vegetables were in a teriyaki sauce, which was sweet and of course didn't blend well with the Shrimp and it's seasoning. It came with a baked potato that my wife said "It must have had a bad spot - a chunk was missing. Whaaaaatttt? Never had that in all the baked potatoes we have had. Not a good first. I was there for the steak, so I ordered their 8 ounce garlic sirloin, medium rare. That should be a warm, red center. I could see the garlic on the sirloin - but the steak was well-done. Gray, hot, chewy (chewy chewy), and I had to use steak sauce to make it palatable. Now two people who we think were the owners come by (they didn't introduce themselves) and ask is everything okay, of course we do what everyone does, we fib - yes, everything's fine. They apparently don't watch Bar Rescue - their combination bartender / waitress could have used some help serving or covering the bar, but nope, she didn't get any help. She didn't complain, she just did her best. I did order their Tuxedo Bomb Dessert, which was actually pretty good. A slice of chocolate cake, covered with chocolate mousse, covered with vanilla mousse, with a chocolate coating drizzled in vanilla icing with some whipped cream. It was the best part of the dinner. Of course, I failed to get a picture of that. Argh.

When we got there, we were surprised at how big the place was! We sat in a private room with drinks as we spoke about the rehearsal, went over menu ideas, etc. Then, it was time to eat! Unfortunately they were out of the Pretzel Bites, but they offered to put a side of the beer cheese with the White Fish Bites. We also ordered the Truffle Fries (which were some of the BEST we've ever had!!) We both ordered burgers, which were pretty good. I ordered the Pit Master, which was actually a little too spicy for me. However, we traded (my fiancé got the Roadhouse) and it was delish. They've been super accommodating and we can't wait to have our rehearsal dinner here in a few weeks!

To make the most of my time, I ordered a flight (Cider, Root Beer, Light and IPA). The Cider tasted just like the name suggested, IPA is my fave type of drink and Light helped prevent me from going to crazy. I had high expectations from the Rootbeer Float one, but didn't expect it to be one of those dark, tobacco tasting beers (didn't finish). For my meal, I got a burger with all the works and chips. It will do, the only note is the mustard packets must be very old because it was hardened and wouldn't squeeze out. Oh, for the flights, pay attention to your cups, one of them chipped away and could've easily been swallowed. Wasn't too chatty after the race, but the one guy working was cool!

I ordered a mini flatbread which tasted fine, although lacking in sauce, but my husband ordered from their specials "sloppy Joe Mac". It arrived in a plastic bowl with a plastic fork and was PLAIN macaroni noodles with a dollop of sloppy Joe and some shredded cheese on top. Very underwhelming for $10. They also have permanently removed the giant pretzel from the appetizers, which was always one of our favorites. Not sure if we will be returning. Their priority seems to be the beer and cocktails.

We have been going to country school since we moved to Rochelle many years ago. We Love the fried…read morechicken!. Then we found their chicken strips and WOW! So that bring us to today. We ordered the the 12 piece dinner as you can see in the photo of their not updated website menu. It says that you get 12 chicken strips, 4 rolls, 1 family sized side and one pint size side. I ordered this meal, plus: As follows 12 Strips The family size and pint mashed potatoes with the gravy on the side. 2 extra pint sized sides: baked beans and coleslaw. Sides of honey mustard dips. My husband got home with our food we unpacked it and for the third time we had no coleslaw. So he grabbed the receipt and went back. I noticed that we didn't got our bread either. So I called ahead to let them know of the missing items. The young person that answered the phone first told me that bread is no longer included as part of the order. They no longer carry bread, they have biscuits and if you want those they are one of your sides or xtra money. ( go online and update your menu!) then she added that it was policy that if he didn't arrive at country school with the bag of food purchased with him, that they would not give us the coleslaw. I was flabbergasted. Two other times we went in with the receipt no food and were given the slaw. Not Today! She went on to tell me that for the inconvenience for having to come back for the coleslaw it was their policy to remake the entire order. I am sorry this does not make any sense to me. You will remake me a whole new $44 order to replace my $2 pint of coleslaw that you charged me $5.29? During my call I went back to the website to re-check the rolls, and if it said anything's it said anything about bringing back the entire order to prove missing items. I did call back to talk to the manager. Waste of time. I will call and talk to the owners son tomorrow and up-date after the call. It may make or break if we ever go back to to country school again. As my son said. Thank goodness there is two other places in town that have very good fried chicken. We just wish they sold it family style!
