This is a warm, safe, child-centric place. It is amazing after lunch to see the children settle down for quiet time and then later see them go out to Bennett Park as a group. When a child has a problem they help the child solve it. They are especially good at defusing conflicts between children. The rules for the children are reasonable and clear and consistent. Rainbow Room does not always take the best behaved and easiest kids. They knowingly take on some true challenges. The staff are communicators. When there is a problem they talk about it with the children (especially) and with the parents. I think this is the key to their success. They perform beautifully in emergencies! Our level of trust in Rainbow Room is off the charts. There is an emphasis on crafts projects and providing an enriched environment. Rainbow Room doesn't promise to make kids smart and competition is deemphasized. Nonetheless in our small group 2 kids tested into city wide talented and gifted programs. Not too shabby!

The kids have lots of time for play, both in the sunny classrooms with views of the river, and in their two outdoor playgrounds and indoor gym. Although the school is play-based, they also do a lot of learning through play! I've been amazed at how my son's writing ability has grown this year. The specials (library, art, music, and dance) are also a real highlight of the Weekday School. My son has been bringing home amazing art projects, and showing us the songs and dances that he learned at school. Most importantly, the teachers are so experienced and caring. They really get to know each child as an individual, and my son has bonded very strongly with his teachers. Ms. Daina, the director, is incredibly warm, dedicated, and accessible. She knows all the children, is involved on a day-to-day level, and provides a lot of guidance for the kindergarten application process. We have had a wonderful experience with the Weekday School. Bayonne, New Jersey…read more My experiences working here were pretty despicable, and I took for granted the importance of working in a stable working environment. The secretary who called me in was one person, then when I came in for a position, it was a completely different person who worked for a short while, then abruptly left. The second person that left for good was given very little acknowledgment by the director of this center, just simply said that they were probably at home, even though all of our paperwork was due to this person on a regular basis. Speaking of paperwork...the director said that she completely misplaced it, and it contained all of my personal information and banking info on it. As another reviewer wrote, picking up the phone was a real issue for this director, and there were times when it was nearly impossible to contact her at all, and there was no secretary for what seemed to be a second time in a very short time period, with no notice of what had happened at all, or what the new protocol, if any, would be. As a teacher, I witnessed a teacher who had burst into tears because the director did not allow them to go home after a terrible gas leak/incident had occurred at their home. This was tragic as well because we were not allowed or permitted to have any phones with us in the classrooms or center at all, which, coupled with the fact that the director had a really hard time keeping a secretary and picking up the phones herself, created a horrifying situation for this teacher, who had a really hard time getting in touch with family during an emergency situation. If you are not a family member, or related to members of the staff, or large donors, the director will treat you differently and more harshly, mock and insult you at times, and you will be spoken to in a different manner, which is deplorable, and does not resemble Christian ideologies at all. Also, bribery runs rampant in this organization from the top down, as does suggestive posts from childcare staff, who are supposed to uphold higher standards as people who are in charge of the education of children! As another reviewer noted, I would not recommend working here, and I wish the remaining staff the best of luck when dealing with this directorship. I do not believe anyone would be able to work in an environment that is not stable as far as working conditions are concerned, but also one that is accusatory in nature, with no real communication, understanding, or fairness in place. When a teacher is hysterical crying because of a real emergency at home, and the person who is in charge does not permit them to go home to attend to matters, then that is when you know it is time to throw in the towel.

He knows all his alphabets, numbers1-20, sings songs, says full sentences and even tells you when he needs to go potty. He knows how to pray before he eats. They have curriculum starting in PS1, which helps the kids learn at an early age. They learn about god. I love that they have shows for the kids. It teaches the kids self-control and helps them overcome public speaking at a young age. It may be a little pricey for some but my child's education is well worth it. The teacher's work with you to keep your child progressing. They are truly amazing! I truly love the environment! They love and care for your kid as their own. I can't wait to see whats ahead!!!!

Despite this, the interaction remained focused on requesting additional financial documentation rather than offering any form of meaningful or immediate support. Even after stating multiple times that my income is currently $0, I was told that I did not qualify for any reduced rate without further proof such as bank statements or public assistance documentation. At no point was any temporary, limited-scope, or urgent assistance offered. Instead, I was ultimately directed to other organizations for help. As a parent trying to advocate for my child under a strict deadline, this felt less like support and more like a barrier. The process came across as rigid and transactional, with more emphasis placed on financial qualification than on the immediate needs of a child facing an upcoming IEP meeting. Families seeking urgent help during times of financial hardship should be aware that without very specific documentation, assistance will not be provided -- regardless of how time-sensitive the situation is.

The school emphasizes kindness, empathy and inclusion; is very nurturing in the lower school and then works to transition the girls through middle and high school so that they emerge confident young women who are decisive, focused, engaged and compassionate. She started stagnate and just skyrocketed to the point where she was excited about learning and attending her Kumon sessions. This center takes the time to observe the students and realize the type of learner they individually are and have them excel. Who could forget Mr. Donato's 4th floor of Tillinghast history and economics lectures. They included Yiddish terms (including from Laverne and Shirley.. see schlamiel and schlamozel..), the Holland Tunnel effect (yawning), and other errata. Emily predicted the German reunification. Good call kiddo! The English prof's comedic impressions of the lil tramp were pretty good but I'm more of a Buster Keaton and Vince Vaughn guy. We used to be able to go down the hill. I learned a lot racing in video games, playing the carnival pinball machine "ride the ferris wheel.." and smashing buildings as a gorilla or dinosaur. The pizza was good. And I didn't get mugged. :) Winning. Mr "Lombardi" told me I was the worst gym student he ever had. It's a badge of distinction I bare with honor to this day. And who could forget the square dancing gym classes led by that chunky southern? fellow. Wasn't he also a wrestling coach? Never have I been so fit in mind and body. Skip to the loo my darling. Is that a bathroom reference? No idea. Round and round we go.. I might have forgotten a detail or two. But it was all worth it. Like Ivan Boesky and Eliott Spitzer I've gone on to lead in an ethical and honorable fashion, leading first by example.. But I digress.. Mr. Timko's physics classes taught me how to find God. After our class he taught only theater.. I was always a lil sad about that and I am probably partly to blame. But I'm sure he was one heck of a theater teacher as well. He would let us retake tests as many times as we wanted to try and improve our grade. But each time the test would be a lil harder. The point was to master the material. Talk about testing reform. You were a Jedi señor. And Breck made me feel low for doing a drive by flicking off of Fieldston more by force of his humble example and leadership than by any lecture or harsh words. Character. There were bad apples too. But to a person Judd said those were his favorites. So to each their own. Although the cool parents made sure their kids didn't get stuck with them.. Even if it sometimes it takes a while or gets sidetracked by corruption.. :P I don't recall carving my name or initials in any of the old wood, but I did free several generations of fruit flies in science class. Oh and I remember the silence of one science professor who scoffed at me when I said jetted water is used for precision metal cutting.. he didn't say anything when I brought in a clipping for the company that made the equipment. Who's laughing now? I'm Yelp ELITE!!! Maybe he moved on.. or simply lacked the requisite grace and humility to make a correction.. Fortunately there were others who taught me to search out, to question, to struggle, to rethink, and to challenge myself. Ultimately, they taught me that there is tremendous joy in learning.
