I came to Dr. Suen for braces when I was a teenager. When he changed my wire, he would snip the back side of my cheek a few times. It hurt, a lot. And even when I say be careful, he was still super rough with me. Instead of cutting the back of the wire, he would cut my cheeks. Several years later, I went to get one wisdom tooth removed by him because he was the only orthodontist surgeon I worked with. Also, at the time, I was in college and couldn't afford to pay for all four removals myself. He not only effed up my bottom cheeks and gums more, there's still scarring till this day. So glad he didn't do the other three because my mouth would've been even more scratched and cut up. And instead of offering me anesthesia to knock me out, he kept me awake and banged away with a hammer and chisel to break up the tooth. There was so much pressure on my jaw I felt like it was going to pop off. This really sucked. I went to another oral surgeon for the other three wisdom teeth because I was not going to go through this experience again. I DO NOT recommend him at all for any procedures, not even sure how he is for cleanings but I doubt it would be any better. read more

I had my wisdom teeth removal done by Dr. Suen this past Monday. I initially thought that it would be extremely painful and scary, but it turns out that it was completely fine. I didn't really feel pain, just soreness around the surgical areas! During the procedure, he constantly reassured me and told me that if I felt any pain at all to let him know. The procedure was done in about an hour. It was very professionally done. Following the surgery, icing it for the remainder of the day really helped my swelling. My face was barely swollen, just slightly, but you can't really even tell that I had my teeth removed! The recovery of the surgery went smooth and well! As of a week I have not heard back nor gotten a response from my emails as to whether or not they will except a referral for a root canal. Dr. Suen has been my dentist ever since I could remember and is almost like family. He has treated me, my mom, dad, cousins - we really place a lot of trust in his care. Even as I am an adult and now live far away, I consistently drive all the way back to little chinatown just so he can help clean and maintain my teeth twice a year. It is also a great pleasure to catch up with him! If you ever need wisdom teeth pulled out, this is the right guy for you! I was born with only three wisdom teeth - and only two needed to be extracted. During this procedure, I was not given any anesthesia or put under. I know this sounds really scary and concerning, but I actually thought the whole process was super fast and simple with me being awake. The hammering may sound scary but it is a very very short part of the process - I wore earphones. In fact, it was so easy that I even went to work that day (slightly swollen cheeks, but hey - it could have been much worse). Dr. Suen also helped me with braces during my high school years. He is a very caring dentist and is constantly reminding me to take care of myself and maintain oral hygiene - like a caring parent. Not only that, I find him reminding me about earthquake preparedness, establishing emergency plans with my family, and other topics - he's really more than just about being a dentist. Dr.Suen is a good choice if you want to get rid of your wisdom teeth with less pain and faster recovery. I can even eat a bowl of noodles tonight (I met Dr. Suen at noon for pulling out my top two wisdom teeth). Dr and other people work there have a nice service. Dr. Sure even called me at about six for some new information about me. He just wanted to know whether I felt good or not. He also offered me more methods which can make me feel better. Dr. Suen is amazing if you need to get your Wisdom Teeth taken out (or just need a dentist). I had all of my wisdom teeth taken out here and I highly recommend Dr. Suen! The procedure was fast and efficient, I was told what was gonna happen and what to expect as he was doing it (since it's local anesthesia I was awake). Some people are nervous about being awake but this is WAY more recommended. My friends that have gone under elsewhere for their wisdom teeth removals typically have to pay a lot out of pocket and looked like chipmunks the next day. (My guess is that their oral surgeons are more forceful since you're passed out and they have to stretch your face to do what they want and bang you around versus just telling you what to do). I had minimal swelling since Dr. Suen could give me instructions to turn, open my mouth, bite down to negate impact, etc. and then gave me ice packs right away. It was quick and easy (literally the longest time was waiting for my mouth to go numb from the shots so I don't know how people can be under at their surgeons for hours) even though I kept putting off getting my wisdom teeth out until they were impacted (take my advice and DON'T do that, just get them out when you're supposed to!!). Afterwards, ice, rest, and you'll be back to normal. Another super great thing is that you can call the office and get Dr. Suen's cell phone number so you can contact him at any time. I'm a worrier and he picked up my call even at 10pm at night! (Advice: gently rinse with salt water as instructed, brush your teeth but avoid the area where the surgery happened, and don't violently rinse/avoid spitting too much.) You'll be back to normal in no time at all and you can always give the office a call if you need anything, they're so nice and Dr. Suen really does know what he's doing!! read more

I had a very good experience with Dr. Suen. I went to Dr. Suen with my father who needed to pull out 2 teeth. Dr. Suen was very nice to my old father and to me. My father needed to extract 1 wisdom tooth and 1 molar. Dr. Suen examined my father's teeth overall, explained well, and got rid of some plaques. He also extracted teeth with very good skill. He even called me on that evening to ask how my father was after that. My father paid $240 for 1 wisdom tooth and 1 molar (He just has Medi Cal and Medicare part B only). Now, my father is good so far and following Dr. Suen's advisement well. I also had a happy experience with a dental hygiene. She was very friendly and recommended me to visit Beijing when I have a chance. It was not easy to find a dental office that takes Medicare, Medical because of poor reimbursement. I called many dental offices several times to find good dental offices which take Medicare, Medical. While I was waiting for at waiting room, I saw girls who have follow up for dental braces. I had a very positive experiencing getting my top two wisdom teeth removed. It was quick and painless (in and out the office in 30 min). I didn't need to take any pain medication afterwards and had no swelling! They even gave me two small ice packs for my cheeks afterwards and a pain medication prescription (that I didn't use). This is probably the best experience anyone can have in getting their wisdom teeth removed. Dr. Suen will be the dentist you're looking for if you need wisdom teeth removal, teeth cleaning and braces. My experience of all of these above are pretty good with Dr. Suen. Even though Dr. Suen didn't tell me what's gonna happen before taking actions without me asking, but I know Dr. Suen will definitely tell me if I asked. (But I'm too shy to talk when we just met) And plus, he is able to speak both Cantonese and English, communications pretty much have nothing in our way. All of the people there are pretty nice and easy to talk to. Most important out of all, I only have to have braces for a year and half without any pain or suffer because of Dr. Suen. Let me start off by saying that I know a lot of people that have also gone to Dr. Suen for orthodontic work and wisdom teeth removal. This was actually how I ended up coming to Dr. Suen for braces. It has been 3 years, and just a week ago got my braces off. The whole time, he was informative about everything he was doing, and very professional. I had to get 4 teeth removed for my braces. I am deathly afraid of needles and blood, and when they gave me the shots for numbing my mouth, I didn't feel the needle at all! Overall a painless process. As my braces were about to come off, he made sure that I was happy with how they looked like before taking them off. He will not remove the braces unless you are completely happy with the way it looks, and he even suggested that I keep them on for 3 more months due to a minor detail. I declined because they looked great to me, but this just demonstrates his attention to detail and concern for the patient's best interests. BEST ORAL SURGEON EVER!!! I got my two top wisdom tooth pulled by Dr. Suen three days ago and I'm feeling fabulous! Matter of fact, I felt fabulous the next day! I didn't feel any pain at all just a sore mouth, which went away the second day. I got my bottom wisdom tooth pulled by a different surgeon couple years back and my after experience was horrible, I was on Vicodin for a week and the pain sucked! However, when I got my top ones pulled by Dr. Suen the experience was a breeze. I really thought I was going to experience a lot of pain after the surgery but I didn't even take any pain killers after! It was a miracle, and no I am not over exaggerating! I've been putting my extraction off for the longest time because I have heard some bad stories from friends regarding their procedures. But after getting the oral surgery done, it was not as scary as I thought since Dr. Suen talked through the process in letting me know what is happening so there were not any surprises. I don't usually write Yelp review, but when I do, the business must be a good one. This is the experience I've got. I took out 4 wisdom teeth in one single day, I heard many stories that it is going to cause swelling and bleeding a lot. But I was like, whatever, let get it done at one time. And I did the most basic one which is the local surgery. One the day of the surgery, they first gave you a pain killer, then some liquid for you to rinse to numb the mouth. After like 10min, my mouth got numb, and then the surgery start. Dr Suen injected general anesthetic, during surgery, amazingly, I didn't feel any pain at all, just some sort of force when he pulling my teeth.From the beginning to the end, I just feel like open my mouth and chill on the chair. The doctor cooperated with the nurse so good that I didn't feel discomfort too when they put their tools into my mouth. Side note, because I am older than most of the teenager, my teeth were very difficult to be pull out, but Dr Suen and his staff were very patience and took good care of me, not like rushing their job. The surgery took longer than usual, I was told I am a tough patient throughout his career. But everything went perfect. After surgery, I followed his procedure and took anti-biotic, there were no infection or issue at all. I didn't even take a pain killer after the surgery and I was totally ok. Also, I only had a very little swelling at my left side of my face. People couldn't tell I did a surgery. Dr Suen also called me to check if I am ok at the night after the surgery. He also let me visit the office again the last day to perform a double check. After 3,4 weeks, I am able to eat normal and no issue appear in my mouth. The staff are polite and friendly, any questions I've got, they answered me in detail and make it very clear and easy to understand. They treated me with 5 stars customer services. oh Btw, they speak Cantonese as well, they can definitely help you with that. I had a great experience getting my wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Suen! My bottom wisdom teeth were growing in horizontally. It was super uncomfortable, so my dentist recommended Dr. Suen. He pulled out my vertical wisdom tooth the fastest. The horizontal ones took a little bit more time but he was very thorough and did an excellent job. He called me, even to check up on me and answered every question and concern I had about the removal. Plus insurance does cover most of the procedure, which rarely happens anymore. First off, how enjoyable can getting your wisdom teeth out actually be? I had four wisdom teeth that needed to be extracted, and Dr. Suen definitely made the entire operation go by so quickly! I had a really bad toothache on the left side of my mouth for quite some time. I was unable to chew on that side without any pain, and when I did, it ached so bad that I would get migraines. I had bad experiences with dentists and stopped going to any dentists for approximately six years. My fiancé recommended Dr. Halton Suen to me, as he had been going to Dr. Suen for years. I was surprised by how accommodating Dr. Suen's office was. I was able to come in on a Saturday morning, which was a plus, with school and work, the weekends are the only available times I had. Dr. Suen introduced himself to me and began to assess my situation. After taking some X-Rays, Dr. Suen knew exactly what my problem was. After the procedure, the pain was minimal and my gums healed fairly quickly. Dr. Halton Suen has been my dentist now for over five years. I have had many procedures done, such as wisdom teeth removal, braces, and a screw and spring placed in my palette to pull a tooth back into place. With all the procedures done, I had no problems with any of them. My fiance has had many procedures done as well. From getting his teeth cleaned, to braces, and getting three wisdom teeth pulled at one time. He has had no problems with any of the procedures either and healed quickly. All in all, Dr. Suen is a great dentist. He keeps you well informed on what he plans to do and what needs to be done. He does not push you to do a procedure, but gives you different options and suggestions, so you can choose what you want to do on your own. Dr. Suen follows the proper procedures to make sure that everything is done properly. Dr. Suen is a perfectionist and I would not want anything less than that from a dentist. Saw this dentist last year and my experience was alright. Dr. Halton performed a cleaning with just a strong water hose that helps cut time and said it was equivalent to the traditional cleaning methods. He felt the need to tell me this because he mentioned someone on yelp who said he cuts corners given he doesn't resort to the usual way of cleaning. I trusted him. Therefore I believed him. I did, however appreciate his honesty in choosing a cheaper, silver filling over the tooth colored filling for my back teeth because the tooth colored filling continued to break off of my tooth. Now I chose to see a new dentist near my work and the assistant performed a very deep cleaning. Scraped the calcification in and around my teeth, flossed between my teeth, and polished them. I can't a imagine a stronger water hose being equivalent to a service like that. read more

I don't worry about a lot of things, but I was kind of worried about this. Getting your wisdom teeth removed is kinda scary when you think about it. Someone is cutting out your teeth, and in my case, using a mallet to smash them out, in order to fix a problem. But Dr.Suen made it a simple process. He is a nice, skilled and very professional. I did not have insurances, and i have very sensitive throat which easy the vomit, so i decided use narcosis. He told me that if i use that it would cost a lot, so he tried very hard to help me during that period. He removed my four wisdom teeth efficient. But i did not know ever after finished. Can you believe it? Amazing! As my felling that he was took off my two bottom wisdom teeth, so i asked him. He said that I was already took those off and show me the image in the computer. My God! i wish every dental visit was as pleasant as my experience here. after combing through wisdom teeth extraction reviews, I decided on Dr. Suen because of all the positive reviews. when i went in for the 4 teeth extraction everyone in the office was super accommodating and professional and the procedure was pretty painless; i ended up not having to take any pain killers afterwards because of how careful Dr. Suen was with my extraction. he provided me with all the necessary information and tools for a good recovery and followed up with me after the procedure to make sure everything was healing well overall it was super easy to book an appointment, the procedure went by with barely any pain and the post procedure care was exceptional. i highly recommend him for wisdom teeth extractions!!! read more

This time I go to him to had my root canal tooth removed but before that I was really worried due to the fact that the video on YouTube really scared me. They said root canal tooth is hard to remove and it's very painful after the medicine wear off. Luckily, Dr. Suen made it easy and no pain at all even after the medicine wear off. Amazing dentist! Very smoothed process in taking out my wisdom teeth on the left side of my face and barely felt any pain during the procedure, which only took 10 minutes or so to complete! This review is a long time coming. I had such a positive experience with Dr. Suen. It was a Saturday afternoon and the wisdom tooth that I should have had taken out years ago was becoming inflamed and painful. I was leaving the following week for a month for work, for a job I just started, and was worried that my gums were getting infected and that I wouldn't be able to do my job. I hopped on yelp to find an oral surgeon who would be able to see me that day. I searched and made calls for hours until I came upon Dr. Suen's page. Not only was he one of the few oral surgeons open on a Saturday, but he also had fantastic reviews. I felt like it might be too good to be true, but it only got better. I called and the woman who answered was so nice, warm and accommodating. She heard the worry in my voice and miraculously found time for me to come in that day. I arrived at the office and immediately felt a welcoming energy in the office. Dr. Suen was just as warm and welcoming. He brought me in and there were posters on the wall with messages of gratitude, appreciation and service. I asked him about the posters and he proceeded to tell me about his time volunteering with communities in California impacted by wildfires. He showed me photos and explained that the posters were thank you messages from the communities he had helped. He asked me if I wanted to stay for lunch and we ended up chatting for an hour or so. I was in a bit of disbelief at how warm and welcoming this visit became -- totally unexpected. After lunch Dr. Suen took a look at my wisdom tooth and alleviated my worries, letting me know that I should wait until I got back from my work trip and use the mouthwash he gave me everyday in the meantime. We booked an appointment and upon my return I came in to have the tooth removed. Dr. Suen doesn't only have a big heart, he is genuinely skilled at what he does. The procedure was painless, and I I had next to no pain or bleeding during my short recovery and healing. I was back to work the next day and eating normal foods within a week. My mouth was fully healed within a few weeks with no issues. I couldn't have asked for a more positive experience, and feel lucky to have found Dr. Suen, who I can now call my dentist. read more

I found him on yelp while I was in dire need of finding an orthodontist to replace my broken retainers ( my prior orthodontist was back in SoCal). I arrived on a Tuesday and got my impression done immediately, informed him I was going to head over to NY the following Monday and he ended up doing extra work just so that I can have my retainers ready from the lab technician on early Monday morning before my late morning flight. I was so amazed of how affordable it was compared to other places in the Bay Area along with how cooperative and genuine Dr. Suen and his staff are. My experiences with Dr. Suen and his staff have always been excellent. My first encounter was an emergency. I was new to the Bay Area and broke my metal retainer that was attached to my teeth. I am missing teeth and the retainer is there to keep the space for implants in the future. I wanted to make sure to replace it immediately. However, it was a Saturday and I had low hopes for finding anyone open. To my surprise Dr. Suen was open. I explained my situation. Unfortunately there were no available times that day, but they were able to schedule me an appointment right away on Monday. He removed my old retainer and made a mold for my new one. Everything has been fantastic since then. I am very appreciative in the quality of care that was provided. They took care of me when I was in dire need. read more

If you'd asked me what I thought of Dr. Suen years ago, when I was a gangly, awkward teen entering high school with hideous braces, I would have kicked, screamed, and bit you before I ever said a good word about him. My mom dragged me here my whole life and she spent thousands of dollars for him turn my mouth into a little freakshow. I hated the dentist, I hated that clinic, I hated TEETH. 6 years later, the far back of my gums were throbbing one night and then I knew... CRUD, 4 more extractions before I can rid myself of this heck-hole So I trudged into his office and glumly slid into the death-chair. I glared at them as they numbed my mouth and prepped the educational video. My heart pounded and I dreamed of how loud I should scream during the procedure. No general anesthesia? No vicodin? No percocet? Oh, Mr. Suen, you're going DOWN. You're going to regret the day you met my little wisdom teeth! And then, it started. With my head gripped between his arm and side, Suen jammed and twisted my two left wisdom teeth out of their sockets all with excruciating.....lack of pain or sensation? All under... 15 minutes?! I thought he hadn't even started before he declared, "Okay! All done! Do you want to look?" I shook my head partly in disbelief but mostly because I am terrified of my own blood.
