A notice of closure until 1/2 was written on the door but the hours were not updated on any site that we looked at. We were very disappointed. Update!!! The owner reached out to me!!! There is now a shining beacon of coffee and donuts in the modest shrimping/oystering boat hamlet of Bayou la Batre, AL. Sugar Rush is the place to go on your way to Dauphin Island or Mobile for some coffee, donuts, or even 'bubble tea' (in asterisks because this drink is neither bubbly nor tea). First, since I abhor the taste of coffee, I was attracted to this place because of the unique drink called bubble tea. It can be any of a couple dozen fruity flavors, from peach to pineapple to passion fruit, and the drink itself is the equivalent of a slushy, smoothie, or sometimes a milk tea. The bubble part of the equation comes in the form of pea sized tapioca pellets that gives this drink its unique texture and consistency. I recommend trying the passion fruit or star fruit (if they're not out!). Now the donuts. After I had been here a few times for my daily dose of bubble tea, I noticed a donut that stops the heart of any pork lover: BACON donuts. These donuts are covered in multiple strips of bacon and have a maple syrup frosting that blends well with the saltiness of the bacon. 5 stars are automatic just for the bacon donuts, but the rest of their baked and drink items are superb as well.
