Were promptly greeted by a young friendly man. I was there for the donuts. We arrived around 3 pm. Be forewarned, if you want the infamous apple fritters don't wait til 3pm. Disappointed, but nonetheless I love donuts so I purchased a dozen of the remaining varieties. All the donuts I have eaten have been very good. We will go back later on the way home in hopes of snagging an apple fritter. The glazed croissants looked Amazing, will also get one of those. Shop was quiet as it was afternoon. City Donut is the oldest donut shop in Orange Beach and they also were awarded the #1 spot for Best Donut Shop in the 2024 USA Today Readers' Choice of the best donut shops in the USA. They also are the only spot in the area that has an amazing cherry ice cream along with lots of other great flavors of ice cream. This is a really cool spot and certainly worthy of a visit. They do sell out of donuts pretty fast so get here early if you need that but they have other good options to try out here as well like their awesome ice cream. Was looking for something refreshing on this hot day and was pleasantly surprised they had boba and shakes near by. The shop was very vibrant, colorful and fun looking. Settled for some refreshers and ice cream which was pretty good and helped hit the spot. Didn't try any donuts because it was close to closing and knew it was probably sitting for a bit. They had a sign saying they had free magnets!! But I didn't get any after I acknowledged it. Ahh well.. maybe i'll get one if I ever come back to Orange Beach. read more

My sweet tooth hit and the journey began. This hidden gem was pleasant, welcoming, and variety filled, but I came on a mission and that consisted of finding the best apple fritter in the area. Not only did they have apple fritters, but they were humungous! And the best part? Delicious! It will literally fill you up as a meal or it could take you a couple days (guilty). Still worth it. The bonus? They also make GLAZED croissants. What? YES! By the time I arrived which was around 2pm, they only had one left..yes, I bought it. (Sorry again to the lady behind me!) it was SO good. The first time I ever tried a glazed croissant and I'm a croissant lover. This thing was airy, light, and as rich as you could think covered in a thin sugary glaze. Go for the glazed croissant! They should glaze mini ones along with the (giant) regular-sized. They could be called: "Small Pleasure" and "I deserve this," for the large. Nice little family owned donut shop in Orange Beach near Publix. Service was quick and they had a variety of different, creative donuts to choose from. They have boba but I was surprised to see that they don't have coffee. A quick pitstop at Starbucks around the corner solved that though. Yow! This is how doughnuts are supposed to taste. Everything here is a glazed doughnut and then if you get a specialty one they soup it up. Highlight for me was the white cream filled chocolate. City Donut was close to our condo and had great reviews so we binged one morning and picked up donuts for breakfast. They have a big variety and had enough workers to keep the line moving. The donuts were great but be aware they have a glaze icing and then the chocolate or maple, etc is on top of that glaze icing so very very sweet (but still good and fresh). The big star was the apple fritters!! I'm a fritter snob and this could be one of the best, if not the best, I have ever had. They're huge, they have pieces of apple inside and the edges were crispy while the body was soft, just the right amount of glaze. They were so good!!
