Suite 102 salon and spa is very unassuming. It is located in an office building and doesn't have the fancy bells and whistles like some salons do to lure you in. But, what it does have is a caring, professional and knowledgeable staff that knows about haircutting, color and washing with quality products. I came in there with my hair that was dull, and in need of TLC. I used Jonna, who had done my hair when I first moved down to FL. I am not much of a stylist myself, and rarely get my hair done. I haven't had as good of a hair treatment since and decided to go back. Boy, am I happy with the results. Im middle aged, my hair texture has changed since menopause and when Jonna finished with the color and blow out, I felt like a new person. She is kind, and knows her stuff. I highly recommend going here. Her assistant Madison is a doll and honestly gave the best hair wash. All in all, I'm very satisfied and the prices are very fair. I received a horrible haircut from my fabulous hairstylist of many years. He was not who he use to be. I later found out why this was. He is forgiven however he will no longer be cutting hair. I went to my back up hair stylist who my girlfriend uses. She added to the problem. Time to do some serious interviewing. If I am told the only thing which can be done is to even up the bad haircut so it can grow out. No, I don't want to even out a bad haircut until it grows out. This makes it an even bad haircut. Who wants this?. I need a hairstyle. Definition of a hair stylist: One who plans the desired effect by studying the facial features, hair type and conferring with client about potential styles based on life style. This is a hair stylist. This is what I look for. This was my previous hair stylist was. Salon 102 and Carmel was my next stop. I met Carmel on a Tuesday. We had a detailed conversation about my hair. I despise curly hair. (Any moron can see this because my hair is straightened.) We discussed my keratin vs his keratin. He insisted his keratin would work as well as the keratin I use. He dismissed me when I told him my hair was so curly I had to use the embalming fluid keratin. (This information will be relevant to below. This did not deter me. He said what I wanted to hear. "He would cut my hair dry to even it up. He then would wet my head to see where we could go from there". PERFECT! Definition of a hair stylist: Plans best effect by studying facial features, examining hair texture, clients desired style and conferring with client recommendations for hair style and life style. This is the type of stylist I was looking for. I met with Carmel on a Tuesday. We had a full discussion about my hair, "I HATE CURLY HAIR, I STRAIGHTEN MY HAIR". We discussed my Keratin vs the Keratin he sells. I explained I use the real keratin with embalming fluid because this is how curly my hair is. Based on our conversation from the day b4 I returned the next day for my revision haircut. I watched him cut, cut, cut. To me it looked like too much cutting. He began talking about wearing my hair curly and I could not emphasize enough to him, "WHAT"! Nothing seemed to penetrate. He must have been so involved spewing his political conspiracy rants. He continued to over speak me. He told me I would never get my hair right if I don't scrunch it in the right way. "But I hate curly hair!". He did say if I did not like it he would tweak it for me. This sort of made me feel better. I thought maybe he wanted me to learn to embrace my curly hair as many have done before. This will never ever happen! What Carmel did not expect was I would return to the scene of the crime. Look at my hair! Have you ever heard of a hair dresser being verbally abusive. Carmel said we NEVER HAD ANY DISCUSSIONS the day before about my hair or what I was looking for. I also unbelievably said to me I was blaming him for my curly hair. He also had the nerve to say I did not understand layered haired. If one side is layered the other side has to be longer. See pictures below. Pictures do not lie. Carmel is quite a conspiracy theorist. I ended this interaction in the most inappropriate way. "Yes there is a pandemic out there Carmel and no it was not started by the far left!" Next stop, finally a stylist :)! She looked at my hair and determined I did not have just one bad haircut I had 18 bad haircuts. A lot is needed to make this better. Feeling confident I was in the right hands the results were as follows. I was given some options. How short it would have to be cut depending on how many mistakes I wanted cut out. She was able to keep the top the way I always wore it however the back had to go. Love the top. I will let the back grow out a little. I am confident w Erica behind the scissors it will be a seamless pleasant transitions. The pictures do not lie nor do I. I gain no benefits from this negative review, quite the opposite in fact. Salon 102 is a lovely salon with lovely people. Salon is also quite inexpensive compared to what I am use to paying. I have no reason to write this review unless this was 100% honest. I'm extremely skittish when it comes to my hair. I've had plenty of horrible and scarring experiences. I decided to be brave and get a body wave/ perm. After searching yelp and finding this salon with raving reviews I decided to give them a try. Suffice it to say I left with an enormous smile on my face. I was beyond happy, not only because my hair was beautiful but also the stylist and her husband really made the experience that much more enjoyable. As a person with social anxiety anything that involves people you don't know and an aversion to professional help because you've dealt with people who don't listen with your hair can be a struggle, but the two of them broke down my barriers and assured me that everything would be ok. I am supremely in a very strong need of a trim and I can 100% say I won't go anywhere else. Hair isn't valuable but it does complete your look and give you confidence. I absolutely entrust my hair to Johnna and Carmel Lobato. Thank you both for restoring my faith in salons. I'm not a high maintenance girl but I take very good care of what I have and I thank you for listening and doing everything (and succeeding) you could to make me happy. I have been going to the same salon for 5 years and was in need of a change. I am very resistant to change, but found this salon while Googling Deva Curl stylists. I have extremely curly hair that is highlighted, and this presents a set of problems. I was happy to meet Carmel, who is personable and EXTREMELY knowledgable. He cut my hair in a technique that I had never experienced before. He explained what he was doing, how it was beneficial to my hair, and gave me complete instructions on how to take better care of my gorgeous curls! I was not happy with my highlights from my previous salon as they were too white, and he beautifully brought the color down to the exact shade I requested! Carmel professionally set my curls and gave my hair and roots amazing body and lift. My hair looked AMAZING and I now know the right way to care for my curls and get a healthy look. Johnna is my favorite hair stylist & colorist! I go to her regularly because she makes my wavy & porous hair look FANTASTIC every time! She uses a combination of color and keratin which works great and holds up even with exposure to the Florida sun & water. I also found that the products they use at Suite 102 are healthier for my skin & hair than those at other salons which damaged my hair in the past. If I could give this salon zero stars I would. The man I had angled my hair when I specifically didn't ask for it, so now my sides are uneven. He gave me highlights that were streaky, too large and noticeable, and were about half an inch from my roots, after I made sure to ask for subtle, natural looking, barely there, highlights just to match my tips to my darker roots. He frequently left my chair to tend to other people, and at one point left me sitting in a chair with sopping wet hair and no towel, so my shirt was soaked by the time he came back. Terrible salon. Recently moved to Fl from New York and was very anxious about leaving my stylist of over 25 years! Searched salons based on my thick curly hair and was lucky enough to find Suite 102 Salon and Spa. When I called the salon to introduce my self as a relocated NY, and explain what I was looking for, Maddison listened to all of my concerns and to what I wanted and what I did not want (NO DEVA CUT FOR ME) and she suggested Carmel for my curly cut and color. She was polite, helpful and patient! When I met with Carmel for my first appt, he listened to what I wanted and did not want, he never tried to suggest something different, and kept reassuring me that he wanted me to walk away with the cut and color I wanted. Well I certainly got exactly what I wanted, and was not disappointed when I got my second cut and color 3 months later. If you want a stylist that is more focused on giving you what you want and not what they "envision" for you this is the salon for you! I wanted lowlights to bring out my grey. What I walked out with was something completely different. I arrived at 9am and didn't leave until almost 2pm. During the whole process because I have a lot of hair, the receptionist (a non licensed tech) was assisting with my hair. I went to beauty school. You're not supposed to touch anyone, even shampooing unless you have a license. She was pulling a tugging at my hair so hard I thought I was going to die. When I was at the shampoo bowl both her and the owner were combing and combing my hair when it was wet because it was knotted. They were trying to comb a product in my hair. I could see how the ends of my hair were so damaged and coming off in my hand. Both had excuses & said it was fine. To put in simple terms my hair was over processed. I sat under a dryer which seemed like an eternity because she was working on another client. I was so upset when I left. There were spots of orange hair underneath on the left side of my hair. That was the side the receptionist worked on. I received lowlights. Not highlights. My hair is not grey. It's gold in color. I had to go to Sally's beauty supply and purchase products to fix my hair. I had to return to fix, color was improved (before my roots were showing bad). I asked for more layers and he stated "Really? You want more? I noticed holes when I was adding in more highlights". I have found hair salon nirvana! I need 2 procedures for my hair: a haircut for curly hair and a natural looking color process. I have never found them both in the same salon. I'm a "snow bird" and I have my hair color done nicely in a local NYC salon for over a decade but their haircuts were blah. They cannot cut curly hair properly. I tried half a dozen salons salons over the years in South Florida for color and they always made my hair too dark and blackened. I looked liked someone from the Addams family. Carmel colored my hair the best I have ever had and he used the Deva cutting method for curly hair. Wunderbar! What a find! Johnna has no clue as to hair color. I went in with a very specific request and after almost 3hrs and tons of toner to cover up her obvious mistake I left. I called the next morning to come In to add some low lights to the absolute hideous red mess she made of my brown with blonde highlights and was told no time. I insisted that she ruined my hair and needed to try to fix it. Well her husband Carmel called me and refused. Moral of the story. You get what you pay for. Also. Sadly, I can no longer recommend Johnna. Although my first Deva cut with her was pretty good, my second was just fair and my third -- and last -- was a real disappointment. It was careless, uneven, not what I asked for (and I was specific), and worst of all, unflattering. I asked her to correct a few things, but she seemed halfhearted about it and I got tired of asking. It's two weeks later and I still can't do anything decent with my hair.
