I've been going to these guys for years and, honestly, I'll never go anywhere else for my car issues. I get my annual inspection here, I get my new tires here, but most importantly: I get things fixed here when other mechanics have messed something up on my car. Which has happened three times in the past two years! The most recent example: an auto body shop didn't put all the lugnuts back on my tire, and they didn't tighten the lugnuts they did put on after working my vehicle. I drove around, unaware of this, for weeks. When I went to get my inspection sticker, I recreated the strange noises coming from my tire (SIDE NOTE: they never laugh at me when I do this; I've seen other customers do it to them too ["thump, thump, thump" or "SCREEEEE"] and they take it very seriously). When they looked, they were appalled. They tightened lugnuts, added lugnuts, and checked my alignment for free because of how dangerous a situation it could have been (like... I was miles away from my tire falling off my car). When they told me (multiple times) my car was safe, I believed them. I always believe them. They have never led me astray. They're reliable, competent, considerate, friendly, patient, and have great senses of humor. One time I had to have SO MUCH work done on my car, they didn't want to say how much it would cost out loud so they wrote it on a paper and slid it over to me like we were in a movie. I've been offered ice cream, coffee, rides if I needed to be somewhere. But most importantly? I've been offered the best of humanity. (Nearly every single time I'm here, an elderly person stops in to ask if they could put air in their tires. And they do it immediately. For free.) The technicians got my truck in and out quickly, completed all needed preventative maintenance in a professional manner, and kept me informed by phone as needed. I did have one tire that had a slow leak from the rim so it was bringing in the Low Air Pressure warning about every 60 days so I asked for a tire service which they did. But 6 days after my service visit, I am getting the Low Air warning again so a tire is still leaking. Will stop in to see them today or tomorrow and ask to have it fixed. Otherwise, I'm usually very happy with Sullivan Tire Westbrook, Maine. read more

I called two weeks in advanced to have my car worked on. I asked to get it inspected and to the have my tie rod replaced and to look at the oil pan for a possible leak. I called at 2pm when I dropped it off at 7 to see how everything was going, they had then said that they will get to look at it soon. They called me back at 4pm and said that I would need a flex pipe to be replaced to pass an inspections. I said ok. Then I asked about the outer tie rod and he said it was fine and passed. I said I noticed noise coming from the passenger side and when I inspected it, I found the noise come from the outer tie rod. They said it seemed fine. So they said that they will need to to keep the car another day and they had to order the part. I said ok. So today I called again at 2 to see if everything was all set. They then told me they will call me when it was ready. I said ok. I walked down at 430 to check. They said that it will have to stay another day and that they found more issues with my car to pass inspection. At this point it was two day and they wanted it third day, I need my car for work. So I took my car. They didn't charge me witch was the only good thing. I was not happy with the service. I think they over book and can't get to the one scheduled that day. I have brought my car to every single Sullivan in the area and this was by far my best experience yet. I brought my car in at the scheduled time and the guy at the front desk was super friendly and took care of me right away. I live just outside of the travel area for the shuttle but that was still OK I had a ride. I understand that they can't just drive anywhere because somebody has to stop doing their job in the shop to drive people where they need to go, but he was really apologetic about that and didn't need to be. I told them that I didn't even need the car by the end of that day even though that was what was scheduled and they said no way your car be ready today and it was. They didn't even try to sell me anything over the top which is very refreshing for a place like Sullivan. They did my seasonal changeover and isn't that a synthetic oil change And the price was very reasonable. They did let me know that this might be the last season on my spring summer tires, but didn't press it really bad. Which I really like. This will definitely be the Sullivan and I go to it again and again. read more

Took my mini to Sullivan in Westbrook, rattling/vibrating under engine(front of car). They found the oil was 2.5 qts low & suspect timing chain issues potentially. Once oil topped off, noise was gone! When I picked up my car, the drivers side window was stuck 1/2way down & several other electrical issues. These were not present when I dropped my car off, no electrical problems prior. When I called Sullivan to state issues & want to bring mini back in, so they can fix what they broke; they take no responsibility & state it wasn't something they did! Also states that they're booking 2 wks out, so we'd have to go to end of the line and wait FOR SOMETHING THEY BROKE!!! Horrible integrity & dedication to their customer & service read more

I had used Sullivan Tire for several years and almost always had positive experiences however, within the past year and a half, there have been 3 instances that have attributed to my decision to no longer use them. The first was when I purchased some tires and had a few other things done. They were out of the right kind of paper/form to print an itemized receipt of services when I went to pay, so I asked that it be emailed. When I checked my email, I noticed I had been charged $79 for a warranty type service that I had never asked for. The new person at the desk apologized and said he assumed that I wanted it, but credited me back. The next instance was when they had given me a quote for parts/labor prior to the service being done. When service was complete, the numbers didn't add up and I noticed that they charged me more for the part than had been listed on the quote. They said they had no idea how that happened, but adjusted the balance to reflect the quote and credited me back. The most recent experience takes the cake. I brought my vehicle in for an inspection and was told that one of the rear struts was leaking and had to be replaced, however it would be best to do both struts at the same time. They said that when they replaced the leaking one, it was likely that the other one would "fall apart" anyway, due to the age of the car (obviously I knew nothing about it at the time). I would then also have to have an alignment, etc. The total quote, including alignment, was a little over $1,200 if I had both struts done. When I left with the quote in hand, I obviously had to pay for the inspection cost, even though I couldn't get a sticker until the work they told me I needed, was done. At the recommendation of a family member, I took my vehicle elsewhere for a 2nd quote (long trusted establishment that is a 40 min drive, but now well worth it) and they told me that the car was in perfectly good condition, all I needed was a bulb and some new wiper blades and that both struts were fine. You can't imagine how delighted I was to hear that I didn't have to have $1,200 + of work done, but how furious I was that not only was the work not necessary, they charged me for a sticker that they should have given me in the first place. I first started going to Sullivan tires in the 80's and never had an issue until the last 10 years. I just experience the old bait and switch, online tire was a great deal on the tire I wanted. Called and confirmed the tire and scheduled the appointment to have four tires put on. When I verified the tires at the counter, they were installing tires that cost $32 more. When I confronted them, they back peddled and still tried to sell me something else. I had to settle for different tires than I wanted and will never go back for any service. read more

4th or 5th time being there, and I am always suspicious and cynical towards repair shops, but these guys have been awesome, and given us good, reasonable prices, and didn't try to push things on us. My experience: Very friendly, and prompt. Tire, lights, wipers, inspection, and oil change took about 5 hours from drop of until ready. Very reasonable I had a few things that I needed them to get done, and then I decided to put them in a trial by fire by saying "We need fix whatever it takes to pass inspection, let me know what has to be done". Writing a blank repair check like that was risky, but the tech responded "Sure, if there is anything more than what you've mentioned, we'll call". When they called, they said "Hey, looks pretty good, you'll need to replace wipers to pass inspection, and then you could do these other 3 things only if you want to". I said "No thank you" and they didn't press anymore. Came back, paid a reasonable amount for the work they did. I have used Sullivan Tire for my car inspections, tune ups and oil changes for many years. They have always been very accomidating to my schedule and would update me on the phone if their original quote/analysis had changed or when I could pick up my car. Today a lady came in and said she thought there was a rat in her car door and asked if they could find it and get it out! (I'm not joking). They were really nice and took her car in and spent a while looking through the car. It ended up being that there was a rat nest in there but no rat. :) Anyway, they will bend over backwards to help and do what they can for you. A lot of people complain that they overcharge but they have always been honest with me. Sometimes the problems do cost money to fix even if you don't like it. read more

Once again, Sullivan Tire came to my rescue! The City of Westbrook is doing excessive road repair and construction work this year, and driving on Bill Clarke Drive is a bumpy experience. I managed to drive into a pothole on Sunday afternoon, and brought my car to Sullivan Tire with a soft left front tire. I filled out an envelope to explain what had happened, and dropped the envelope with my car key through the after hours service slot in the door. The next morning, I walked down to the store and got my donut spare out of the back of the station wagon. In spite of being somewhat busy, Steve managed to get my car onto a lift promptly - and the soft tire was replaced with my spare, so I could use the car while I waited for them to check the tire. Later in the day, I learned that it was a leaking bead on the tire and it had already been fixed. So I drove the car back and had the repaired tire put back onto my car in place of the spare. I couldn't ask for better customer service than that! This facility is AWESOME! read more

Went in today to get my oil changed and was limited on time. They got my oil change done in less than 30 minutes and they found 3 burnt bulbs and replaced them as well. I came into this shop for a state inspection. I was immediately told I had "2 bad tires!" They asked where I purchased the tires. I told them I purchased them from the Sullivan store in Portland about 6 months ago. They quickly changed their story to say I only had "1 split" tire that needed to be replaced. Definitely not street safe. They blamed the manufacturer... okay, I understand. They next told me I needed new struts because "1 is blown." Being that my car is very well taken care of and drives smoothly, I questioned it. They said I cannot get my inspection sticker until I have new struts and they quoted me $800.00. Yes, I am a girl. I drive a nice car, I have a coach purse, wear expensive jewelry, and typed on my MacBook Air to waste time while I was there. Money is not an issue and I seem vulnerable when it comes to automobile knowledge. However, I am not dumb. My education is in medicine, not automobiles. Still this does not make me dumb. I refused to make the purchase there because I did not feel confident with all the whispering going on. I took my car to the dealer 2 days later and guess what!?! It needs nothing! The struts do not leak! Only a horrible business would try to take advantage of a person! I wonder if one of my male colleagues had brought my car in, then would have been lied to also? read more

Steer clear unless you like to throw money away. Spent $1300 on a car that's not fixed. Choose location as I broke down in front of it and had used them for tires in the past with okay pricing. Not only did they mark up local tow charges from $65 to $89, but parts were marked up on average by 60%. Paid $480 for a $209 O2 sensor more than a 100% markup. 10-15% would be okay, that's fair business, but this was nuts. Thought labor was inclusive at that price but noooo. Picked up car and check engine light was still on and car still over heating. Was informed to make another appointment. I left message for manager to call me and 4 hours later, was told too bad, I had the choice not to accept the quote and have work done. He didn't feel the mark up was too much and noted that he's gonna call napa and the tow company to tell them he's not doing business with them any longer. Like I care. It's about me, the price I was charged, the fact that the car was not fixed and I relied on the advice of "professionals" to act on my behalf to fix my car. That is the definition of a trained mechanic, in my book. Never again. Same with tires. Charlies in gorham has my business for that and I'm still with carters auto repair as well. Tow would have been more, maybe not, but my car would be fixed especially at that price. read more
