The wait to see the doctor is crazy and you book with Dr Gangi but you do not get to see her. Hard to get someone on the phones regarding your appointments or lab orders. Looking for another specialist. read more

Interested in root cause and not jumping in the deep end for a treatment prior to researching options. She was fixed on beginning medication. Not the doctor I was searching for. Front office required co pay when I have already paid 100% out of pocket and could show on insurance website. Working on getting refund. While I was in the treatment room, the front office called me for unknown reason. Once I told them I was in a treatment room, they apologized and hung up. Attempted to cancel follow up on line and NP called me 4 days in a row in an attempt to assure me they were looking for root cause but wanted to have the medication at the office on my next visit. summary: I tried to reschedule an appointment, but no one answers the phone and no voicemails are taken. ---- The office is run very badly. No one answers the phone, just a computer. I was automatically put on hold for over 14 minutes, and then told by the system to leave a message, and then, Lo and Behold! the mailbox was full! This isn't a surprise because it has been full a couple times before, after I was on hold for many minutes. It's hard to reconcile no one answering the phones with the fact of 4-5 young ladies in the office at computer screens chittering away every time I visit. Surely ONE of them is assigned to answer the phones? I also had to call the 'physician' line just to get a human on the phone, because of non-answering of phones - in order to straighten them out on what he Doctor had prescribed, because the wrong Rx was repeatedly sent to the pharmacy. I absolutely DO NOT recommend Dr. Gangi for any healthcare needs. First of all it is very hard to get in to see her. Appointments are rescheduled for her, not the patient. When you finally do get to see her, she spends about 5 minutes with you, then sends you to the lab for bloodwork. She indicates she will get your treatment approved with your insurance company. Weeks go by and you never hear from anyone from Southern Endocrinology, unless you have a balance due. Personally, I made an appointment with another Endocrinologist and treatment has begun. read more

Had an appointment for 2:30 to see Dr Sumana Gangi. I arrived about 15 minutes early to find the office was staffed my teenage girls and so it sounded like a party zone with all the laughing and giggling. At about 4:30 Dr Gangi finally came in the exam room carrying an old beat up laptop that was being held together with clear tape in no less than about 5 places. (Please note at this point I am a first time patient with type II diabetes) The entire exam lasted less than two minutes and consisted of her asking me why I was taking the meds I was taking and tapping on my abdomen once or twice. At this point she said we would prescribe different meds and follow up in 3 months. And to top it all off I found the next day that the girl up front had charged me two co-pays for the one visit, when I contacted the doctors office she said that was a standard practice and refused to credit it back to me. My primary care physician noticed a discrepancy in my blood work so he recommended I see an endocrinologist. Dr. Gangi was the only one in the area that would work with my insurance. I had an appointment scheduled at 1PM. Everything was fine in the beginning. I checked in, filled out some paperwork, and paid my copay. Then it was an endless game of waiting. I waited in the waiting room for over an hour before they called me in. I finally got escorted to a room and was greeted by Dr. Gangi's physician assistant. I told her my PCP wanted a second opinion with my blood work and that he had sent them a copy to review. She took my vital signs and measurements and said the doctor would be in to evaluate the my blood work then left. I waited another hour in that room all by myself. Finally Dr. Gangi comes in and she tells me that she hadn't received any blood work for me and instead of asking my doctor to fax it or email it, she recommended they take another blood sample on site even though I had told her I had just gotten tested three days prior. I get escorted to another room where an nurse proceeds to take my blood. She tried two different veins on my left arm, fails, and then two on my right arm before she was finally able to draw my blood. She bandaged both my arms up and I check out a little before 4PM. The next day my arms were bruised from her poking at them. I have gotten blood tested plenty of times before that and never had I ever been bruised. A week later I get a call from her office telling me my tests were normal and they asked if I'd like to schedule another appointment. I spent over two hours in that office during which time I spent less than twenty minutes actually talking with someone, was told I'd have to repeat a test I had done not even a week prior, got poked and bruised, and then was told I had completely wasted my time. I have a problem with this doctor [Dr Sumana Gangi], her office practices, her office staff, and the reported practices at Southern Endocrinology and Diabetes Associates, PA. This disreputable practice, in my opinion, is located at 1621 N Belt Line Rd, Ste A in Mesquite, TX 75149. First off, a doctor's office that overcharges you for their share of your deductible, then makes you wait months until insurance companies pay off ALL your office visits before they will return your money is wrong. I was repeated told over and over that that is their normal practice. It was their overcharge and their error - not mine. I tried to be patient, but three months is too long to have to wait for a refund of an overpayment which was their error to start with. I also have a problem with an office that, when you try to escalate an office/billing issue makes it difficult to speak with their Office Manager [Stephanie] stating she's in a meeting, she's out of the office, etc. - repeatedly. Keep in mind that this Office Manager [Stephanie] has a cell phone. Next, I am VERY concerned that, even after asking to see the doctor, I'm asked by the staff, "Are you a patient?" THIS, after my asking to be seen by the doctor on my two previous visits and instead getting a non-doctor. When I asked the Office Manager [Stephanie] about this, she advised me quite emphatically, that it was the office practice for someone other than the doctor to see you on your first two visits; that you don't get to actually see the doctor until the third visit. Sadly, I don't remember making an appointment with the doctor's medical assistant. When I ask to be seen BY the doctor, I should be seen BY the doctor. Plus, I don't believe insurance companies should pay the full contracted amount when the doctor/facility that has the contract with the insurance company is NOT the one providing the service. I plan on pursuing this matter further with the Texas State Insurance Regulatory commissions. I believe doctor's offices should be paid less when a doctor is not seen. I HAVE NEVER ACTUALLY SEEN DR SUMANA GANGI. Also, I'm very unhappy with a doctor that will not give you the time of day when you have a problem with their Office Manager and/or other employees. The Office Manager [Stephanie] advised me that the doctor [Dr Sumana Gangi, Endocrinologist] had NOTHING to do with running the office; she ONLY saw patients (even though she NEVER saw me}. I asked if Dr Sumana Gangi owned the practice and the Office Manager [Stephanie] said yes. After questioning the Office Manager [Stephanie] further, she said the doctor would not see me about ANY office related issue and that she [Stephanie] had total charge, i.e., no one else to escalate my issue to. Bottom line, she did everything she could to keep me from communicating my concerns and issues WITH Dr Sumana Gangi. Lastly, this Office Manager [Stephanie] had the nerve to say if they cut me a check right then that I would be discharged from their practice. I was unaware that office managers had that right - apparently this is another of their normal practices. I told the Office Manager [Stephanie] that it didn't matter that I wouldn't be back and I WOULD share my awful experience. She did not seem to mind. They [billing staff, office staff, and office manager] continually pushed my buttons for over a week. I got angrier and angrier and louder and louder. They didn't seem to care except to push my buttons, then throw it back and my face that I didn't need to get so loud and/or angry. Quite honestly, I'm surprised I wasn't cussing like a sailor before it was all done. I have been seeing Dr. Gangi for about 5 years now. I have no personal problems with her or Gary as they both seem to do a good job with regards to my health. However the office staff is the most incompetent office staff I have ever dealt with, especially with getting refills. I've had experiences with wrong medication called in, wrong dosage, wrong quantity, and to the wrong pharmacy - all on separate, multiple occasions. I feel like I have to talk to them like they're children when I'm requesting a refill, walking them through step by step. 1 of the blatantly lied to me saying my pharmacy messed up because they supposedly do not mention quantity on their prescriptions. But after requesting a hard copy of the prescription, Dr Gangi's nurse wrote out an incorrect quantity. I always risk being out of medication when my refills run out because these people have no idea what they're doing. read more

I took my mother to Dr Gangi, she is a wonderful person and the treatment given to my mother for her diabetes has really brought her blood sugars down. We have never seen her blood sugars so good and we are so glad we came to Dr. Gangi and her team. read more
