Call to set up an appointment and there was one available that day. When time came to pay I was charged a $35 dollar fee on top of regular visit fee. If an appointment was available (which showed available on line) why are you charging an additional "emergency" fee to be seen same day. Total predatory pricing. This is not about the money as my bill was $1300 it's about taking advantage of people. I called to question the fact and the receptionist agreed and said she would pass along to manager and of course never heard back. I preferred this "Summer Street Cat Clinic" over the one in Getzville. I had no waiting time. The nurse/technician was very nice & the Doctor seemed more knowledgeable. This one was cleaner & more inviting. My "Shadow" clearly felt more comfortable at this location also. He wasn't freaking out & was a very good boy. The tech showed me how to put medicine in his eyes & allowed me to record her doing it. I appreciated that a lot. Everything was explained fully. I'm bring my other baby here on Monday. read more

Cannot say enough wonderful things about Summer Street Cat Clinic! Our little girl was really ill last week -- to the point where we needed to bring her into a vet ASAP. Our normal vet never has immediate availability, and it was really crucial that we got her in as soon as we could. After some quick research, I learned that Summer Street is typically great about getting cats in for emergency visits. I called Friday morning around 9 and they let me know they could see her at 11. When I got her there, they were genuinely concerned about her illness and they were so gentle and caring towards her. Dr. Ryndak was excellent in going over all of her findings with me -- including explaining the treatments they gave my cat and how to care for her going forward. Thankfully, my cat has bounced back and she's feeling much better because of the staff at Summer Street. The summer street cat clinic has been amazing for me and my senior kitty, Pearl. Pearl and I found each other when she was over 10 years. I was living in a rural village and took Pearl to the general small animal vet in town for some odd issues she was having and they had only very simple suggestions to try and help her. Pearl and I ended up moving closer to Buffalo and that's when I started to bring her to Summer Street Cat Clinic. They have helped Pearl so much. She is going to turn 15 now and she is doing the best she has since she was adopted into the family. They have some evening appointments which is great for this #workingcatmom. Took our 10 year old male cat for a wound in his groin area (cut, scratch, bite) SS gave hime a shot, two week follow up talked about amputation!!!! And more medicine . Two weeks later a bioshopy recommended but could not do for another MONTH! (origibnally 2 months) long story, he died before bioshopy of septis. Not only is the staff extremely welcoming and pleasant, but they are very understanding of my financial situation and have done everything in their power to help cut prices and make sure my cats are healthy without emptying my pockets. My wonderful cat, Pumpkin, had an emergency medical problem and needed to see a vet. After calling 4 vet hospitals - 2 of which I had brought 7 animals to over a 20 year span - none would give me appointment. A friend told me I should try Summer St. Cat Hospital. I called and they were very understanding and took me in within 2 hours. The nurses and the veterinarian were most Kind and considerate to me and my cat. Pumpkin purred the entire time because of the kindness and handling they showed him. Unfortunately, because of the extend of his injury, I was advised putting him to sleep was the only option because operations wouldn't help the problem. They helped Get me thru this very sad situation, gave Pumpkin and Me time to hug and purr together and when it was time he fell asleep in my arms without pain. I've only ever had to go to the vet for bad reasons - sick furbabies. There can be so much comfort in those difficult times if you have the right vet. Most recently, my beloved cat of 13 years was extremely ill and sadly had to be put down unexpectedly. I was so thankful that a few months ago he started treating at Summer Street Cat Clinic so I could take him in right away. They got him in the same day I called. I arrived early because I was worried and they took him right in. When he started deteriorating they rushed to care for him and made him comfortable. They took x-rays right away to confirm the bad news. For cats and their owners, there is no better clinic. Everyone here truly loves cats and it shows. They know how to interact with them and calm them as much as possible. In that difficult hour with both my cat and I upset, they treated us so kindly. They said all the things I needed to hear in that moment and assured me that my decision to let him go was the right one. They made him comfortable while he passed, petting him the whole time and allowing me to do the same. I used to take my cat Prince here when I lived in buffalo. I seriously love this place. The staff is so friendly and welcoming. The veterinarians are also very friendly and took very good care of my cat. They cut your cats nails and brush them before the visit. My cat was a little overweight when I first saw them and they offered to have him follow up for free weigh ins. I highly recommend this place to anyone with a cat. They give you options in what they think is absolutely necessary for your cat and don't push tests if they don't think it's vital for the health of your cat. I trust them completely. Just want to address bad reviews for vets, in particular this one. People should take them with a grain of salt. My sister is a veterinarian in NJ and I always hear about people bashing vets because they think they're getting cheated. Medical care for a pet is expensive because pets don't have human insurance. The vets aren't pocketing the hundreds of dollars so they can take advantage of you. As a pediatrician, I know how expensive blood work, imaging, medications can be for humans. We're lucky enough to that most of us have insurance to pay for it. My point is, many people don't get this concept and blame vets for their bills. read more

Yesterday we had to say goodbye to our very sweet cat. The staff @ the Summer Street Clinic were so kind and caring. I have only praise for our experience even though it was a very sad day. Tucker had oral cancer on exam which would ultimately lead to his death within a short time. We discussed options. There was no pressure for us to decide the chosen outcome. They wanted only to provide information so we could make an informed decision. Since we cared so much for our beloved cat we didn't want him to suffer to fulfill our need to keep him alive for a few additional weeks as he declined in health. The staff supported our decision and Tucker had a peaceful passing with me by his side. They helped me in a serious emergency and were not only super caring but also professional and flexible! I found a sick kitten in a parking lot and NO ONE was open, animal control, nothing. A friend told me to try the clinic so I drove over and in a panic handed them a kitten (in an Aldis bag as it's all I had!) and they kindly took me in and did a great job! They gave me kitten food, a loan cat carrier, medication and consistent updates. The vet was very kind, patient, and easy to work with. The vet techs were also super kind and really wonderful. Don't take your cat here if they're really sick and you need real medical advice. These vets will make you pay $500 for blood tests and other tests you won't need and then they won't have any idea how to help your sick pet beside giving it some steroids. Save your energy and a headache and go straight to an animal hospital. My cats hematocrit level was basically non existent and I asked the vet if she needed a blood transfusion. To which the vet replied, "maybe but it's going to be very very expensive and we don't do that here." She reiterated that a transfusion would be extremely expensive about 3 more times and that I should just go home with the steroids. Almost as if she was implying I couldn't afford it because I refused to pay for any more useless tests because my kittens condition was clearly becoming a medical emergency. Then when they transferred their paperwork over to the Orchard Park Veterinary Medical Center where I ended up taking my cat and spent an additional $2k, the vet stated in her paperwork that she was the one who suggested I get my cat transfused (oh no you didn't). My kitten survived and is now on steroidal therapy. This clinic charged me 50% more for the steroids than what the Orchard Park Medical Center is charging me FYI. Don't go here. read more

I am incredibly impressed with the Summer Street Cat Clinic, and I recommend them to all of my local friends with cats. We have visited vets in Boston and LA, and none compare to the professionalism and skill we have found at the Summer Street Cat Clinic in Buffalo. We have a wonderful, snuggly cat who turns feral at the vet. It's like a switch goes off in his brain and he turns into psycho kitty, completely wigging out on any vet that comes near him. I am careful to mention this to all vets, and one cavalier vet in LA waved me off like I was exaggerating. Yeah, she had to leave the room to go bandage herself halfway through the exam because she was bleeding so heavily. He's that evil. Needless to say, we have had many negative experiences at the vet. My cat is not a favorite patient. The Summer Street Cat Clinic has handled him with care and respect, and in return he has been surprisingly well-mannered for them (relatively speaking). They were able to treat a persistent lip ulcer he had for years, which other vets insisted was incurable. They are also very good about explaining the pros and cons of various vaccinations and treatments. Superb service and care for my little Luna! I recently rescued my cat from living in a dilapidated trailer in the woods. Summer Street was super quick about getting her in once I brought her home (like the next day). Once we got to our first appointment, I was greeted by the nice lady at the desk and very promptly called into the room. Another perk - no long waits and never a crowded waiting room! Most I've seen was one other cat besides mine. They offer great, knowledgeable advice and are always open about the costs associated with anything and everything. I also got Luna spayed here and they were great about making me feel better. They also were able to schedule it right away! It was a little pricey but I believe I got what I paid for. She was in heat and I was very nervous for her but they treated her with respect and care and made me feel much more comfortable. Very friendly and they love my little kitty almost as much as I do! After recommendations and searching last minute for a boarder for our ailing 9yr old cat, we finally found availability at Summer St. And thank goodness. Not just for being a very reasonable and accommodating boarder, but because they actually paid attention to our cat. Upon us picking her up, they noted her weight and behavior, and suggested she may have hyperthyroidism. Our own Vet had been monitoring her ailments claiming it was dental related (to the tune of $934)... turns out a simple blood test confirmed months of illness and sadness that is now under control with medication. We cannot tell you how much we appreciate this dedicated clinic. Summer St saved our cat's life, and it whether it was luck or fate, we now have a competent Vet who has made all the difference. read more

Today I took my cat to the Getzville location and have never had a problem till today. I usually have the male veterinarian who is wonderful but I forgot on the weekends it's the female one. EVERY time I see her she is always up charging me and the price is always double with no talk prior to treatment what they are doing or the cost. The male vet is wonderful and he is always upfront and make sure I am comfortable with the price and treatment. I was there just to get an allergy shot for my cat and told them that over the phone when I made my appointment and had no idea they were going to do a full exam or give an extra shot which was not needed. My cat was just there 6 months ago and had a full exam and allergy shot at that time. I tried to talk to someone when I got the price of 268 but no one cared and they just made excuses and made me feel stupid for asking. I have been using this vet for over 20 years with multiple cats and was so upset with what happened and the unnecessary service and cost. I will never go back and advise anyone that reads this to question everything before you go there. I will NEVER go back. read more

I was a little unsure about coming here because of some of the reviews. My life situation changed, so I don't drive much and I can walk here, so I took my cat. 3 times actually- once for a well visit (he needed a rabies vaccination) and 2 times for an issue. I've been pleased all 3 times. They never said anything about the cat food. I even switched him from science diet to iams. They checked him for fleas at his visits. They don't make you feel guilty about not getting a huge work-up on your pet. Just give you options, things to think about and a cost estimate. If you say "no", they don't make a big deal about it. They are always very kind and caring to my cat, even when he Is a little grumpy. everyone is very kind and pleasant. I'm glad I started coming here to get the Miyagi-San looked at. I don't think I'm bringing my car back here... The vet is a fast talker. Doesn't explain anything to you and speaks too loud even though I said "my cat is very outgoing, he just hates loud noises." I'm in the room you don't have to yell. I love my cat, I want what's best for him... So I want to understand what you're doing and why. Not some quick talk and a 300 dollar bill and I'm leaving after my vet appointment feeling blind sided and whip lashed. Two more things... 1) My cat had his blood drawn, she took him out of my sight... Something I've never had happen with past pets. My cat has a somewhat stiff gate and his hind legs are a little sensitive, but she decided to draw blood from his back leg. We're home now and he's limping. That's not okay. I thought the process they go through is just unprofessional. I went to another vet to get a second opinion and said his leg was sprained. It's no big deal in the big picture... But they didn't charge me for the appointment. 2) They always recommend hills science diet. At every visit. I'm not changing my cats food. Stop asking me to. I did my research online and even talked to my friend in vet school(she goes to cornell) she said while male cats are prone to kidney stones feeding them hills or iams isn't going to make them any less likely to develop stones. PLUS Hills uses ingredients from China. I don't buy flatware from China I'm not going to feed my cat food produced in China. read more

These people are always finding an extra thing or two that require more expensive tests. The facilities seem nice and clean enough. We actually started out going to the Getzville clinic but decided NEVER to return their after one of the vets there traumatized our cat to the point that he soiled his carrier on the way home (something he never had done before in 11 years). Now we are finished with the Summer Street address as well - when we return to our home town and bring the cats to their old vet, he finds them in more-or-less good health and doesn't require any of the expensive procedures. Lastly, the Summer Street folks gave one of our cats a vaccine that made her sick and then denied it. Let's face it: if a cat is in good health and then she gets a shot, and within 12 hours she has lost all appetite and becomes nervous, weak, and dehydrated, one would expect the vet who administered the shot to suggest that the vaccine may be the culprit. Instead, Summer Street came up with all sorts of bizarre explanations instead of just admitting that there was something in the vaccine. Goodby Summer Street. I wish I could recommend another place but we have resigned ourselves to only getting our cats checked up in our home cities. when we go there, we only deal with Dr. Levine, who runs the place. She is excellent and takes care of your kitty. She and her techs can go over suggested inoculations, plus tell you which ones can wait if cost is too high. If you want a good cat vet, make an appointment with her.She is outstanding and helped save my little kitty after she came home from the SPCA with kennel cough, even though they said she had gotten over it. While this clinic is not thew cheapest, if you are looking for a feline specialist, contact them and make an appointment with her. **READ THE COMPLETE REVIEW** I initially contacted Summer Street cat clinic because they are one of two clinics that are in our area that carry t-cyte, and experimental treatment for cats that have feline leukemia. I spoke with Dr. Otterson, and he was very helpful in discussing the treatment. He also had a cat who had started the treatment but passed away before he could complete his medication. Dr. Otterson graciously offered me the two injections not used but pre-paid by the previous patient. I went in the week before Christmas 2014, and met with Dr. Otterson. We reviewed my kitten's health records in detail, did blood work and completed the first part of the protocol for t-cyte. With this product, you go in at days 0-7-14 for 3 vaccines meant to stimulate their immune system. After that, you go every 2 or 4 weeks, depending on the cat's health. Dr. Otterson explained to me that he would sell me the injections 'at cost,' which was $307 for 3 shots after we used the first 2 that he provided at no cost. My first bill was around $155, which was $50 for the initial exam, $40 for giving the injection, and $65 for blood work. Fast forward to week two. I met with Dr. Adams, who wasn't as familiar with the product but was under the direction of Dr. Otterson. She came in, visited with me about the cat and his health, took his weight temperature, ran a flea comb through him, and gave him the vaccine. Let me make mention that in between weeks one and two, I spoke to the office manager and paid for these 'at cost' vaccines so that they would be ready for me week three and beyond. She told me that the $40 would be an ongoing charge for giving the injection. I was agreeable to that, which puts us back to my second visit. When I went to pay, I was told $85. I asked how they arrived at that charge. Apparently, even though this was a series over three weeks, I was still going to be charged a $45 exam fee. I wanted to speak to Dr. Adams about that, but she wasn't available and called me later. She did. We did not see eye to eye on the ongoing exam fee for the series. Now, week three. Before I agreed to any treatment, I spoke with her in person. She did agree to charge me a technician fee only, and so I left with only a $65 charge - no flea comb or temperature reading for us at this discounted rate!!! What value that was bringing to the equation is still a mystery to me. At this point I am mildly annoyed, but still willing to proceed. I called Dr. Otterson to confirm he wanted to see the cat in one month. He told me that Dr. Adams told him two weeks. Since I was under the impression (from Dr. Adams telling me this), Dr. Otterson was in fact familiar with the product and she was not. So I called the manufacturer directly, spoke to one of the vet's there, and he confirmed it isn't two weeks but four weeks based on the health of my kitten (yes, he spoke to me for 10 minutes to review everything). In the meantime, I had to contact my regular vet to reschedule my kitten's neuter appointment. I spoke with the vet tech there, and she looked into ordering the t-cyte for me for future visits. Three days later, she let me know that she was able to set up an account and that they would take over his treatment. The real cost of 3 injections? Under $200. And you can get 10 for just over $400. I get that you have to make a living. I really do. However, I consider it COMPLETELY unethical to tell someone that you are delivering a product 'at cost' when you are in fact marking it up by 80%. Yes, that is right, 80% mark up on 3 injections. I realize that this isn't a product that is frequently used. Based on my experience, though, not only was I paying TOP dollar, but I was also calling and speaking to a vet who was familiar with the product in order to determine what the real timeline needed to be for his treatment - NOT my job!! When I went to the clinic to pick up my remaining injections, Dr. Otterson was in the back speaking to the vet tech who went to get my injections. I heard the whole conversation. Yet he couldn't come out to speak to me about the situation. I told her, nicely, that I found their behavior unethical. And yet he couldn't even show me the respect to discuss it with me. I would not return here for anything. Unprofessional, unethical and fully ready to take advantage of pet owners who want to do the right thing. read more

A super humane place to board your cat. I got some tests run and vaccines which I thought were perhaps a little high for Buffalo, but not overpriced in my view. You get what you pay for. Boarding was only $24 a day. They really helped me out when I could not keep my cat at home for 3 weeks due to a bad living situation. read more
