I took them to My Tailor…read more They are sleeveless with wide straps over the shoulder, a fitted bodice with an "empire type seam" that sits directly under the bustline and a flared skirt. I tried them on (5 of them) and each dress the lady merely pulled up the shoulder straps and pinned them. I know now, I should have left at that point. When I inquired about the gapping at the back of the dress and under the arms she told me under the arms you wouldn't notice when my arms were down and the back would be fine. The "empire seam" where the bodice connected to the dress, was now mid-bustline. Upon completion, I tried the dresses at home, was unhappy with the result, called her back immediately and subsequently took them back within the hour. I tried the altered dresses on one-by-one and explained that the "empire seam" was now in the wrong place, and the back gapped and the dress clearly did not hang properly. In my opinion, it looked like a bag with straps - - -not the nicely fitted bodice and flared skirt I was expecting. She told me they looked fine and took great pains to tell me the "empire seam" was SUPPOSED to be at that height and that if she let down the straps my bosom would show. She now told me the dress would not fit the same way as when I purchased the dress to fit me. I kept telling her the dresses did not fit / hang properly but I could discern she was not going to accommodate this customer. I went home. I went to another seamstress. I took out the sewn shoulder straps and we started afresh. She pinned the back, altered the shoulders, pinned in the bodice and clearly, in my opinion, this woman knew what she was doing and heard my requests. In 12 days I had 3 dresses back (2 from the first fiasco) and one other. All 3 looked superb, the "empire seam" was where it was supposed to be, the back fitted beautifully, the bodice was snug, my bosom did not show. Guess what, it now was made to fit and it looked lovely as it did when I bought the dress to fit me the first time. I went back to the first lady, with the dress on, explained what had happened and how she didn't listen to me when she pinned it and when I came back. All to no avail. Even when I asked her for 50% refund she would not budge an inch but she wanted to me to BRING THEM BACK AGAIN FOR ANOTHER ALTERATION. Clearly, why would anyone do this? She didn't listen at the initial pinning of the dress nor when I came back directly after trying them on post-alteration. In my opinion she is unprofessional, unwilling to stand behind her work and deceitful. If unable to do what was requested, she should have told me. I would have thanked her for honesty and been on my way. Going forward, I will never pay before the job is completed. Obviously this tactic doesn't allow you cannot get any money back.

I put absolutely zero pressure on Liz, the Tailor, with hard deadlines, and acted in good faith, trusting that she would be fair and honest. She asked for a $100 deposit. I left it. However, I would later regret it. The only thing I asked to get back before Christmas was my black suit (getting the jacket let out, the waist let out, and dry-cleaned). Liz gave me the date of December 19th to pick it up. That was over 2.5 weeks away. I agreed, but it was not ready on December 19th. I had to come closer to the New Year to pick it up, along with a pair of black CK dress pants, getting the hems repaired, nothing else. I did not complain or give her a hard time about her not meeting her deadline for the one item. However, it was an inconvenience, even if she showed no clear concern. After picking up the black suit (let out + dry clean) and black pants (hem). I was now waiting for another suit to have 2 small moth holes repaired + dry-cleaning, and a bomber jacket that needed 4-5 buttons sewn back on (2 items left to pick up). I waited until the end of January 2024, which was now two months, even though I did not rush her or pressure her still. I came to pick up my jacket with the buttons, and the last suit, and she drops on me a final bill of $315 (deposit included with tax). I was not impressed, and asked to go through the pricing right there in the shop. The most polite way I can say this, is that I was being treated as if I was an idiot, and I was not being dealt with honestly. She was making it confusing, jumbling up all the figures as she stated them, speaking super fast, so I asked to slow down and go through each price/item line by line, one at a time. She made that nearly impossible, but I persisted. The final tax amounts, button charges, plus $75 to let out a black Moore's men's suit jacket, were ridiculous. I could see the prices ratcheted up for each thing to try and hit her final number of $315. At the end, I paid because these were her declared prices (I'm not a thief), but I pointing out two major problems in her pricing, she was only willing to give me $20 back. Outrageous behaviour, and total disrespect to a customer who was wanting to bring her more business to this shop. I am very upset about it still, as to come out with a final bill of $315 for two suits to be dry-cleaned, one altered, and the other have two small pant holes repaired, a simple pant hem, and 4-5 buttons sewn back onto a coat, is wrong. I paid her for the work, but spent 10-15 minutes trying to go over this with her, telling her that her pricing was outrageous, and that I regretted not demanding all pricing up front, in an itemized list. It was not right. Based on comparable services, I was over-charged by $40-60 (with taxes) and that is with her $20 returned to me. It's very disappointing. I hate stuff like this. This work should have been done for $240-260 w tax, at most. No matter how friendly the person presents themselves, get ALL your pricing in advance, and in writing. I hate deception and taking advantage of others. BE SMART OUT THERE, AND SHOP AROUND. HONESTY AND TRANSPARENCY ARE THE BEST POLICIES.

Could you ask for anything more? I have worked in the service industry before and as for estimates I found that it's very difficult to get it right mostly due to insufficient or unclear descriptions. I have always been satisfied with Maxwell's, but I wanted to see the result of a true tailored suit, so off to Emil I went. It was one of those impulsive, you gotta get an amazing suit before you die kind of things, and the suit lives up to my expectations. It is the kind of garment that feels like you aren't wearing anything -- it is tailored that perfectly. My stunning 3 piece navy pinstripe suit from Emil ran $1250. He also allowed my to choose any tie in the store to go with my new suit, which amounted to a $150 Italian silk masterpiece. For me, at my stage it life, I will probably be going abck to Maxwell's, based solely on cost. But in the future, then the pocketbook allows, I will be back to add my my wardrobe. He truly is ``A man to know``.
