Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Cincinnati, technically in Covington, KY, MainStrasse has everything I would want and need in a place to call home. For starters, the vibrantly painted brick homes left me oohing and ahhing as we walked up and down the streets. Tack on all the amazing flower boxes and Pride flags waving proudly and you've got yourself a warm and welcoming village. The area was also very walkable and I really loved being able to take a quick stroll up the street for tacos or breakfast. They have a community pool, a good sized park, tons of cute restaurants, boutiques, and various shops. It's honestly like straight out of a storybook. I will definitely be paying this adorable village another visit soon and I suggest you do too!

I'm a sucker for historical markers and this area is full of them as well as beautiful esplanades. I also enjoy the overflowing window boxes on the shops in the summertime. My last visit to MainStrasse Village featured dinner on the sidewalk accompanied by great people watching. This neighborhood is filled with shops, salons restaurants and bars and can easily be reached on foot from Covington's main street.

The parish that the Centennial Barn is connected to is a small Catholic parish that really does try to help the needy while serving their congregation. They even take in older people who are not able to take care of themselves. The Centennial Barn is actually a ministry of the church, as it brings in money to help support the overall budget of the parish. However, you don't have to be a part of the church to rent it for a function or even a wedding. The inside of the barn is really cool! It has strung white lights all over the inside, as well as white trim and big red doors that give the barn a classy but country feel. There are bathrooms on the first floor, as well as the second. There are stairs to the second floor with several rooms off of the main level that provide spots to have people dancing or serve food. The backyard of the barn is open with some room outside to have a live band or even some dancing. There is a cemetery in the back of the property.... but it is not really that noticeable. It doesn't take away from the feel of the barn -- but it is something to note.

I bought a 5 gallon bucket of evolve Ultimate semi gloss paint for $85. It is currently $134.99 on Amazon. I also snagged a 1 gallon can of evolve Ultimate Paint and Primer for $17 and a 1 gallon can of evolve Paint and Primer in Sunbeam Yellow for $14. They are currently $35.99 and $30.99, respectively, on Amazon. What great deals! I'm so glad that I came! And, the employees are the nicest people. The manager was nice enough to wait past the closing time for me to get everything that I needed. I told her that I was just stopping in and would come back to get what I needed, but, she told me not to rush and the young lady that helped me take my supplies to my car was so sweet. The store is clean and well organized. The bathroom, which I know is a weird thing to talk about, was freshly painted and smelled really good. ;-) I'm definitely coming to this Restore again first to shop for supplies for projects. You can get what you need for a fraction of what you would pay in stores and online and the money is going towards a good cause.

The Southgate Community center is a well taken care of community resource. The building itself…read moreappears to be new and modern. Large windows let in plenty of light. Bathrooms are there as well. A roll up window for concessions is there, but was not in use during our visit. More than just a building. The Southgate Community Center is surounded by a park, a baseball field, playground, green space/soccer area, hiking trails and fishing pond. The fishing pond is what brought us to the center. Our Scout Troop had learned of it being stocked with trout days before our visit. (A number of Northern Kentucky ponds/lakes are stocked by the county.) Unfortunately, no one in our small group caught anything. A professional photographer was there conducting a photo shoot. This seems to be a very versatile area. There are a couple of parking lots. Plenty of parking for our visit. If something such as a baseball game, or community event was going on, parking may be at a premium.
