Worth. Every. Penny! While I have been horseback riding many times, horseback riding on the beach was a bucket list item. Summerland Beach rides did not disappoint. We were met by Judy when we arrived and Lucas was a phenomenal guide. He knows the horses and their personalities so well. We rode Coda, Zorro, and Duke and had two other people in our group. Lucas knows which horse likes to walk in the water, which horse prefers the soft ground over the pavement, which horses like to be close together as friends and which horses don't get along and need to keep a distance. The ride consisted of various terrain including dirt trails side streets, orchards and of course the incredible sandy beach. The sunset ride was out of this world! Lucas took the time to take photos of everybody with his camera and then text them to us after the ride so that we did not have to be concerned with taking out our phone or unable to capture the moment. We had plenty of time riding on the beach, both in the water and on the sand. When we returned to the stables, Lucas gave everyone some treats to feed to their horse as a small thank you to our horse for a lovely ride. The helmets were the only thing that were a bit gross as they were all in a bucket. We had to find a helmet that fit and then spray it with Lysol on the inside and wait for it to dry before putting it on, as opposed to having them already disinfected and dry, or set out and organized by size. We definitely hope to be back to do this ride again! Stunning and magical! read more

I rode on July 31 with my granddaughter. We did the early morning ride on the beach with Lucas. He was a great guide and we really enjoyed the colorful stories he told about himself personally, and about the area and the horses we rode. The ride itself was outstanding as well, along the low tide line. There were some dogs that were off leash on the beach (it was posted they were supposed to be leashed), but Lucas expertly navigated the situation and avoided any potential confrontations. She was very friendly and made us feel at home, did a great job teaching us the basics, and told us fun facts about the houses along the ride. Our horses were very gentle and well-behaved. I felt totally comfortable and, having never ridden a horse before, that's saying a lot. The trail itself is very picturesque and of course riding on the beach is spectacular. It would make for any special occasion, or even for no reason at all! It seems like they take good care of their horses too. I have a few suggestions for the owner to make the experience even better: 1. Put up a sign at the ranch that says Summerland Beach Rides. The ranch is small and unassuming, and we were not sure if we were at the right place. 2. Invest in more helmets. Some of the current ones looked a bit busted and dirty, and I had difficulty finding a size that fit my medium-sized head. read more

This is the best place I have ever been for renting a horse for trail riding. I have owned and taken care of my own horse for 14 years, and also leased horses, and the horses at Summerland Beach Rides are in the best, healthiest, and happiest condition possible. The owners put the welfare of the horses first, which is the most important thing. Also, these happy horses are well-behaved and this means you will have a safe trail ride. The scenery is gorgeous. Also, the owners are very careful to make sure the saddle fits the horse, which leads to a safe ride and also a more comfortable ride for people. I have been on rental horses where the saddles are so uncomfortable that I was sore for a couple of days after riding. This did not happen at Summerland Beach Rides. I was not sore at all after riding. They also give lessons and this would be a great place for anyone, especially kids, to learn to ride. read more

My boyfriend and I had a horse back ride through the mountains and the ONLY thing that came close to the beautiful views, was the customer service offered by Erica. Not only was she knowledgeable, kind, loving and warm, she made sure to give us the best experience possible. She was informative and just lovely to be around. Honestly, she made the ride! I had a lovely time, the horses are calm and tame and SUPER WELL trained. I can't rate this experience highly enough. My ride was scheduled at 8:30am. After driving 2 hours, i arrived 12 minutes early and received a poor greeting from an obnoxious seemingly "out of sorts" person who identified himself as the owner. The staff was awesome and continued to apologize for the owners behavior. After returning from the ride, the owner must have "regrouped" or something,. I'm a horse person, I've grown up around them and been riding for 15 years, but I've never gone riding on the beach before. A friend and I went today and it was an experience for sure. Charlie is a character, depending on his mood, he came off rude a few times, but then would joke around with you 5 min later. The horses were fine, nothing spectacular, but again, given it's a trail riding business, I didn't expect much. Some were skinny and could use some weight, but nothing terrible. Because my friend and I were experienced, Charlie let us canter along the beach a few times to make the experience more enjoyable. We definitely had fun, the only iffy part was Charlie and how he came off a few times. I get it, horseback riding is dangerous and people don't always acknowledge that and it makes it worse that we had to ride across streets with traffic, but he went a little too far yelling a few times. read more

My wife and I, among a few close friends were thinking of an outdoor activity we haven't done together, so we chose to do a horseback ride in the late afternoon on beautiful Summerland Beach. What an exhilarating experience! Charlie, the owner and his right hand man Rudy were very helpful and selective about matching the horses with the right people based on a myriad of variables and personality types. Once we started our ride, Charlie gave us interesting insights about the peripheral area as we descended down Padaro Lane into an equestrian arm that deposited us onto the beach. It was breathtaking! The glistening blue water coupled with sun kissed skies and warm ocean breezes made a ride on horseback very relaxing and extremely enjoyable. The ride lasts approximately 90 minutes and it takes you through the upper canvas of avocado and citrus orchards before it concludes. I would highly recommend this activity with a group of friends, close family members or a romantic date with your significant other. Spectacular! read more

I have never gone horse back riding before and so as for a beginner I would totally recommend this place! The tour is about 1 1/2 hours and they go very slow which was great for me since I was a bit nervous. My horses name was Kota and he was slower than the other horse which made me feel more secure. The scenery is so beautiful! And the beach you go to is not crowded in fact we barely saw anyone there which makes for a very relaxing experience. There's a local coffee/bakery near by called The Red Kettle and their baked goods for breakfast were amazing! We did the morning ride and the weather was nice and cool even tho later in the day it definitely warmed up! Such a relaxing experience! I'd highly recommend! And our tour guide was very friendly and talkative, he is a local and was able to make suggestions on what we should do after. Great company! read more
