I recently became a member of summit ranch. Been there for 3-4 months now with my new Arab. Everything is very well maintained and a gorgeous property. In terms of horse care; my horses stall is always looking great and full of clean shavings. In terms of hay they have alfalfa and grass I believe. If I ask them to feed 2.5 flakes they do exactly that. Wonderful staff. They have stalls and stall paddocks Arenas: one out door and one huge indoor one with a lounge area indoor that has a window to view into the arena. The lounge has multiple tables, couches, big screen tv with cable and wifi. Both arenas are "mowed down" idk how to spell it but they work the arena flooring to Make it nice and even for the horses, this is done twice a day and watered down as well. Round pen is outdoors, and there is two small turn outs with sand. The horses are a priority to the employees here and you get the feeling from the owners that it isn't just about the money but they want to form a nice and fun environment for people. I believe there is 50ish horses here. The boarders are definitely on the older side but there is people in their 20s/30s. There is multiple dinners for the different holidays that are free and there is catering and padlock style. They also have an apprentice program and the kids really improve their ridding skills drastically. The ranch horses are not only gorgeous but well trained. I only got to go out on trail a handful of times but there is basically miles and miles of trails. The boarders are very friendly and there is several trainers that come and have clinics from David Ventura who teaches beginner to Grand Prix level dressage to the Incredible Dean Lacey who can solve any horse problem you have. This ranch really is incredible and words can't do it justice. If you are lucky enough to get a stall you wouldn't regret. read more

We moved our horse here after not having great luck finding a family/kid friendly (or friendly at all) barn in the East Bay. The people at Summit were welcoming & kind. There is no drama there , the owner and managers are professional and very knowledgable horse people. It is a beautiful ranch, with trail access, nice arenas and there are excellent trainers there. My kid is in the apprenticeship program and loves it. We recently sold our horse but our teen wanted to stay in the program anyway and gets to ride different horses and is learning a lot. Great program. We have been in the horse world for a few years in the Bay Area and Summit is unique! read more

I can't say enough good things about Summit Ranch and their riding program. My granddaughter has taken lessons from Ashley for several years; she really enjoys her time with Ashley and she has learned so much. The ranch is clean (as ranches go) and everyone is very friendly. I think it is absolutely absurd that someone posts some garbage on Nextdoor requesting everyone give this business a 1 star review because of a request to build a cell tower. I don't know anything about the cell tower, I am just writing this review to tell everyone Summit Ranch is an awesome place, that cares for their surrounds, their animals, the boarders, and everything else that goes with being a top-notch outfit. All this ranch cares about is their money. I was treated with nothing but disrespect and prejudice the whole entire time I tried to take lessons there. Ashley the head trainer is extremely biased towards certain students and because of that wouldn't let me ride at the ranch. DUE TO PERSONAL ISSUES!! The level of professionalism and respect for all horse lovers and positivity is NOT something you will find at that ranch. If you are not one of them since day 1, be prepared to be an outsider. When I road there many years ago when it was under different management things were much better. Times have changed up on that hill, for the worse. read more

I recently started taking riding lessons at Summit Ranch. Very impressive! The facilities are beautiful, and the setting is perfect! The ranch has exclusive access to Mt. Diablo State Park, which offers miles of open space, trails and scenery. There are also newly updated indoor and outdoor areas. My instructor, Heather Herman, is an excellent teacher. She is very patient, knowledgeable and thorough. Bob & Joan Marx, the owners of Summit Ranch, have obvious love for the ranch, it's people, and of course the horses! The best horse stable I have stayed at. The Owner of Summit Ranch keeps the facility, clean, safe, and fun. My son, Tim, is in the Summit Ranch Apprentice Horse Program where he is learning horsemanship. He loves the program that is headed up by Heather Herman, the on site trainer, who is good with kids and adult students. The stable also has great riding on Mt. Diablo. We fumbled around for a long time trying to find the right program for our 12 year old daughter. In short, we have finally settled in at Summit. Heather Herman (the Summit Ranch Manager) is the best trainer and instructor we have worked with - period! She has established a "one of kind" apprentice program at a very reasonable price for youth riders. In addition, she has taken on the challange of transitioning our retired throughbred race horse to trail riding, and in the process, has also trained me on how to better handle . On top of that, she has been instrumental in training me, not only as a rider but in training me to train my horse. As for the ranch, they are very clean and super organized and located at the foothils of Diablo. My daughter raves about the marathon trail rides Heather schedules. For your money, it doesnt kid any better than this. read more

We love Summit Ranch! We've had our 2 horses here for almost 6 years and have been very happy with our experience. Staff is responsive and supportive of boarders' needs. Bob & Joan Marx are great owners and strive to offer a nice 'family' environment. The previous barn manager and apprentice director, Heather Herman, was a influential part of my daughter's teen years by providing guidance, support and teaching responsibility and accountability. The current staff has been wonderful as well. It's a lovely, friendly barn. We will be relocating to another area next month and will miss everyone at Summit Ranch. read more
