I should have learned my lesson the last time I visited, but no, I didn't. Call me a gluten for punishment. Last time I went in there and stopped at the service desk to get a Powerball ticket. I stood in line behind a couple other people and waited for 10 minutes for someone to come over and man the service desk. The people in front of me never got waited on as far as I know. After 10 minutes I walked away because an employee still hadn't shown up to serve anyone. I then went to the deli counter to buy some crab salad. It was closed. I don't know why it closed early, but it did. I don't mean 5-10 minutes early. More like 2 hours early. I didn't go back to this store for months. I always drive by it to get to Hy-Vee even though it's about 4-5 miles up the road. Sun Fresh is so much closer to my home but I travel miles to get to Hy-Vee because service is non-existent at Sun Fresh. Well, silly me, but I stopped in Sun Fresh two days ago, once again to buy a lottery ticket and a couple of quick grocery items. As I'm walking up to the counter I don't see anyone other than a customer who is already at the service desk. I stand behind the other customer for a few minutes and it's like deja vu because there is nobody working the service desk. I try to make eye contact with employees who are working the checkout area but they are quick to divert their eyes to avoid me. I don't know if it's because they can't be bothered or because they are embarrassed that customers can never get service. Either way, it's not acceptable and I am done with this store. I understand that it's hard to find employees who are willing to work, but can't they at least say, "I'm sorry for your wait. Someone will be with you as quickly as they can" instead of avoiding eye contact with people who are waiting for assistance. If the business owners are so flush with cash that they don't need customers, they should board up and shut down. Another option would be for them to close the service desk. Discontinue selling cigarettes, Lottery tickets, and whatever else they have back there. I should also add that I was a loyal Sun Fresh customer for YEARS before they closed their location at Vivian and Antioch. I would say that this is the most scathing review I have ever written. When a business treats customers as an inconvenience (if you can even get their attention) it's time to walk away and find a place where your business is appreciated. read more

We moved into the neighborhood 2 years ago and at first we did not appreciate the grocery store, it wasn't as "current" as my previous neighborhood grocers. Over time, running in for a forgotten item, I came to appreciate the kind, friendly, staff and diverse customer base. Now this is our primary store and we appreciate it for staying in the neighborhood and employing so many neighbors. read more

Went there to get my sister a cake and a card for her birthday. After checking out I pulled out my hand sanitizer from my purse. A customer behind me in line (who's mask, wasn't even covering his nose) started to laugh at me once he saw the sanitizer and once I started walking away the cashier started laughing too and said" I know right". People are literally dying and you laughing at me for being cautious. I will never shop there again. This location given all Sunfresh's a bad reputation. read more

They don't have basic items like tomato paste. Are they going out of business? If you want to go to one grocery store to get all of your items, and interact with friendly, helpful staff, Green Acres over in the Briarcliff mall is much better. read more

If you're looking for a neighborhood market, SunFresh is your place. The people are friendly and willing to assist wherever they can. The convenience and easy layout of the store makes trips to grab 1 thing or your entire weeks worth of food a breeze. They have a rewards program that enables you to earn points and use toward free items. I'm thankful yo have them in the neighborhood! read more

This grocery store is disgustingly dusty. I've given it two chances, both experiences left me disappointed. The produce selection is poor, their meat isn't good and it's not clean. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. read more

Remember the glamor of shopping at IGA, United Supers, or even Hen House before it got mega douchey? Shopping at Festival Foods on Chouteau was like taking a trip to the 1990s, or what I call the "golden age of grocery stores." From the dated rainbow decor to the large, industrial shelves, to the handwritten signs on poster board, this place is as unfussy as it gets. The prices are relatively low, and the store features a large Mexican grocery section, as well as selection of Halal foods. I don't really use either, but hey, it's there if you want it. Also notable were 99 cent Totino's "party pizzas" in a freezer bin. Bwhaaat?! Amazing. There's a small, reasonably priced liquor section, a bakery where you can get individually packaged cupcakes, and even a small floral section where I picked up some daffodils that looked like they came out of some old lady's garden for $1.50. Well worth the trip to the Northland for me, as I hate buying pizza rolls at that judgy hipster-hole in known as Sunfresh in Westport. But wait, there's more: Target is right next door to Festival Foods, so you know you're going to want to hit that up too. read more

It's not fancy. But for 10 years, even as the other grocery store chains went all upscale, it's been my grocery store. I may go to McGonigle's for tasso and boudin, and Hy-Vee for shrimp and gas money, but this is where I do my everyday shopping-overall, a cart full of plain old groceries costs me less here than Hy-Vee, Price Chopper, or Sunfresh, and it's as close to my house as anything else (I REFUSE to do WalMart). While Festival doesn't harken back to the days of the original "box store", it's plain inside, but clean. There's no floral shop, but they have pretty much every other department you'd find at the snootier grocery stores: deli, salad bar, bakery, pharmacy, a small liquor department. And in this transitional neighborhood, that's enough. Unlike another reviewer, I have no problem with the quality of their meats, and they nearly always cost less than other places. And I have yet to find a better bagel than their bakery's honey wheat or multigrain. Sadly, I can't buy Roasterie here-they tried a limited selection for awhile, but it just didn't sell well enough in this mostly working class area. Probably because of the growing ethnic diversity of the area, there's a fairly expansive selection of Mexican food, and you can buy Halal meat (whatever that is) and a whole goat (with prior notice)! The employees are always friendly, and the manager always at least nods and says "Hi, thanks for coming in." That, and the low prices, have kept me coming in every week for the last 11 years. read more

Festival Foods used to be part of a chain of the same name, but the nearest sister location was located in Pittsburgh, Pa. They are now independent but retained the same name. This is a store that's popular with the elderly and the poor, so set your expectations accordingly. i turned to them as an alternative to Wal-Mart, they can be cheaper, just be careful what you buy. If it comes in a box, can, or bottle or is produce or dairy it should be safe. just avoid their meat like the plague, their hamburger gives a new meaning to the term "grease burger." having said that, they did make a relatively tasty breakfast sausage, but otherwise avoid their meats (except national brands) one of their managers told me many years ago that they look for cheap items to sell cheaply, so I dubbed 'em "El Cheapo." read more

Good place for Grocery at low price BUT they do not have Lobster, BOoooooo!

This place is a dump, and there prices are outrageous especially when it comes to soda. Dr pepper normally runs a dollar, maybe a dollar and thirty cents at most stores, here at sunfresh its 1.85-2.00 a 2 litter. read more
