As I work just across the street from this market, I have been anticipating the opening of this new place in town and I am so glad its finally here! This little market is the perfect addition that midtown area needed. They have all your typical groceries, some options for fresh produce, as well as some specialty items you may not find at all grocery stores! They have a large selection of craft sodas, olives for your charcuterie needs, plus so much more! The owner said if there is anything you want that they don't have, they'll get it in for you. Not only is this a grocery store, but they also have two unique additions inside the store - LC's Hamburgers and Zero. LC's is good old fashioned burgers, fries, and chicken nuggets, with a few other side options. Zero is a fresh juice and smoothie bar, in addition to having fresh ice cream and elote in a cup! If you've ever been to Tropicana, its very similar. I am so very excited that this is now a new option walking distance from my work for lunch, and I have a feeling my office will be keeping alot of business coming in here!

I was next door and saw the this place and all the things that they offered listed on their window. I went inside and was blown away because I had no idea this place existed. They have such a wide variety of items from produce and frozen groceries to cell phone accessories and alcohol. They offer cell phone repair and have a few food "stands" there. They sell smoothies, fresh juice, ice cream, fried fish tacos and so much more. They also have a small counter available for those who want to dine in. This place is pretty awesome and I think it's amazing how many things you can find here.

I heard that Midtown Market had about everything, so with a 1/2 hour to kill before a reservation down the street, we stopped to see if we could find a quick espresso. Although they couldn't accommodate my caffeine fix, I was amazed at what they did have. This grocery store space was a Thriftway back in the early 90's when I worked on the block for a few years. What a significant upgrade to that dingy dirty store back in the last century. An LC's hamburger is on the north wall and a juice / ice cream stand is on the south. In-between is a combination liquor store, c-store, full line grocery selection with plenty of ethnic / import items to accommodate the surrounding diverse neighborhoods, and what I found the most entertaining was the large selection of candy; ranging from novelty, high end, retro and hard to find. I walked out with some Bob Ross Happy Little Tree Mints and beer flavored Jelly-Bellys for a gift. Tons of ideas for unique birthday or stocking stuffer type items when the time comes. Who doesn't need some Dr. Pepper Cotton Candy, a 5 lb. gummy bear or insect candies? Midtown Market should have a bright future with it's clean and diverse selection to serve the area, especially with the streetcar expansion and a stop with-in a block.

Shrimp & Sausage Boil: A stew of shrimp, sausage, and corn. The ingredients were of very good quality; the shrimp were firm and fresh, and there were over a dozen in one serving. The sausage had a rich smoky flavor, and the corn was sweet and juicy. The seasoning was basic garlic butter, with black pepper to remove any fishy smell and enhance the aroma, resulting in a subtle creamy flavor overall. Mashed Potatoes with Gravy: The mashed potatoes were smooth and creamy with a distinct buttery aroma. Unfortunately, the gravy was a bit too salty. Mixed Vegetables: Purely boiled vegetables, completely unseasoned, too bland. I used them to dip the mashed potatoes, which made it absolutely better. Fried Chicken Tender: Scalding hot. Although the crisp wasn't crispy enough, it was still very aromatic.

This place was so weird…read more The guy at the register seemed like, hungover or something, and it just... took him a while... I hope he wasn't having a mini stroke. The item I purchased rang up at a higher price than what it said on the shelf. Never a good sign. Everything was really expensive, except for a few things on sale - like, I managed to find a single-serve yogurt on sale for $2.50 instead of $4.59. They have some bulk herbs and teas, but the selection is very, very limited. They have a couple water dispensers in back which is nice, but there's no price listed anywhere. I really want this kind of place to survive..... but it's just so pricey; and then the service wasn't great either.

Recently they added on a wing around their deli, and it looks a little more suburban than the area but not a total eyesore. I often feel you can judge a grocery store by their produce quality, and here it's always pretty good if not a bit more expensive than other stores. They also have a nice bakery area, beer & wine, and all the candy my girls could ever want to find. Not a place I do my weekly shopping but absolutely fantastic for popping in for a quick thing here or there.

Back when I worked down the street from here, and lived nearby, I used to pop in here frequently for beer, wine, and to indulge in their great salad bar. I don't often find myself grocery shopping in this part of town any longer, but when I do I always notice that they still have a great selection of local items, including beer and wine. AND, they still rock a great salad bar. I popped in here most recently thinking I might try one of the waldo take and bake pizzas that I'd heard were rumoured to be available, and was a bit sad that I would have to get thin crust to get any meats on a 'za. Definitely not Cosentino's fault, but that would be an improvement as I'm not a waldo thin crust fan. At any rate, I think you'll find most of what you need here at a somewhat reasonable price. I'd put prices somewhere in between whole foods and price chopper. While you might pay a little more than going down the street to Price Chopper, you'll find a cleaner shop, and tons more local options, which I always enjoy. Now that I live a little bit further out I find visiting this grocery store to be a bit nostalgic, and I enjoy seeing what little treasures I can find if I find myself here.

Last time I went in there and stopped at the service desk to get a Powerball ticket. I stood in line behind a couple other people and waited for 10 minutes for someone to come over and man the service desk. The people in front of me never got waited on as far as I know. After 10 minutes I walked away because an employee still hadn't shown up to serve anyone. I then went to the deli counter to buy some crab salad. It was closed. I don't know why it closed early, but it did. I don't mean 5-10 minutes early. More like 2 hours early. I didn't go back to this store for months. I always drive by it to get to Hy-Vee even though it's about 4-5 miles up the road. Sun Fresh is so much closer to my home but I travel miles to get to Hy-Vee because service is non-existent at Sun Fresh. Well, silly me, but I stopped in Sun Fresh two days ago, once again to buy a lottery ticket and a couple of quick grocery items. As I'm walking up to the counter I don't see anyone other than a customer who is already at the service desk. I stand behind the other customer for a few minutes and it's like deja vu because there is nobody working the service desk. I try to make eye contact with employees who are working the checkout area but they are quick to divert their eyes to avoid me. I don't know if it's because they can't be bothered or because they are embarrassed that customers can never get service. Either way, it's not acceptable and I am done with this store. I understand that it's hard to find employees who are willing to work, but can't they at least say, "I'm sorry for your wait. Someone will be with you as quickly as they can" instead of avoiding eye contact with people who are waiting for assistance. If the business owners are so flush with cash that they don't need customers, they should board up and shut down. Another option would be for them to close the service desk. Discontinue selling cigarettes, Lottery tickets, and whatever else they have back there. I should also add that I was a loyal Sun Fresh customer for YEARS before they closed their location at Vivian and Antioch. I would say that this is the most scathing review I have ever written. When a business treats customers as an inconvenience (if you can even get their attention) it's time to walk away and find a place where your business is appreciated.
