We were immediately offerred assistance with our bags, which we utilized since my wife can't lift anything heavy. Our room was perfect and spacious, with a nice little balcony. The Kilwin's chocolates were a nice little welcome surprise. The weather was unseasonably warm, so we actually spent a few hours at the pool and laying in one of the cabanas on the lake. It was super relaxing and a pleasant surprise. We expected the pool to be closed for the season already. The rest of the grounds on the lake side of the hotel were amazing. From the perfectly manicured bent grass lawn to the outdoor patio, everything was beautiful. The morning breakfast buffet was delicious. We particularly enjoyed the omelet station which had lots of ingredients to choose from. One morning, we treated ourselves to a couple's massage at the spa. The staff was very accommodating for my wife. It was my first time ever getting a massage an it was super relaxing! The whole Bay Harbor development around the hotel is kind of odd, with a fake downtown and what looks like an attempt to create a walkable residential area, yet it was missing key sidewalks to get around. Go to the nearby towns and explore. The Inn at Bay Harbor isn't going to be the cheapest option in the area, but it's one of the best if you want full amenities and a more luxurious up north experience (not usually my cup of tea, but it was fun to once). It's great for a special occassion or an anniversary getaway.

Located in Petoskey is the Village Suites Bay Harbor located at Bay Harbor. This was our first time here with my family of seven including three adults and three young children on vacation. We arrived here at the same time after driving up in two cars from Western Springs. Illinois. It took us about 6 hours to drive up here. We parked our two vehicles on the main street during our stay. There is alternative self parking behind both buildings. We checked into the main office to receive our keys. Our check-in went smoothly at their main office. We booked both of our units via the internet. We had to pay half $1,537 in advance. My one king bedroom two full bathroom suite with full kitchen and two bunk beds in our king bedroom cost $3,074 for our four night stay or $769 per night. One of our full bathrooms had a tub and stackable washer/dryer off our main king bedroom with the bunk beds. Our second bathroom off the main entrance had a shower. We had two patios off our main king bedroom and our living area. We also had a Murphy bed in our living room, which we did not use. We had two TVs with internet service. We also had a gas fireplace, which we did not use. Since we stayed here for four nights we opted for only one day of cleaning service and making up our room. As you can see from my video and many pics we were on the third floor overlooking the yacht harbor and swimming pool. We could walk to one of our favorite Brandy's restaurant, the marina, pool or ice cream. I was very pleased with our unit and the area. Everything worked well in our room. My family stayed across the street in a larger two bedroom unit three bathroom suite. I would stay here again because this is a happening resort area. We all had a great vacation up here especially since the weather was great in early August. Now that our vacation has ended we checked out without any problem. More to come regarding our drive back to Illinois.

Someone had recommended the Bay Harbor Village Hotel, which they claimed was an event better experience. I booked it many months before our August trip. However, after reading reviews on Yelp and elsewhere got a little worried about all the negative reviews. We stayed in the maritime suite in rooms 214/215 and had a great experience. We had a 2 bedroom condo complete with a kitchen, 3 bathrooms and living room. It can feel a little tight for our family of 5 in most hotel rooms, but this was the perfect amount of space. The area has everything Inn of Bay Harbor has with a few cute shops, some restaurants (Maple + Batter was a favorite for brunch) and a beautiful view of the lake and harbor. They could definitely use a cafe for coffee, but it's a short walk over to the hotel. They give you access to a gym and pool by the harbor, which is actually even better than the Inn. The only thing missing is the beach, but again that's just a few blocks away. Housekeeping kept our room clean and we were quite pleased with our stay there. If traveling with just my husband or not my entire family I would probably choose a room at the Inn, but this is perfect when we have the entire gang in tow.

This is the first time in my life that I walked out of a hotel room after 20 minutes. Was check-in…read morea little messed up? Well, yes because I booked through a third-party I had no code. I know a lot of reviews talk about that but if third party is that big of a problem then maybe they shouldn't be advertising on third-party websites. I noticed the little lobby room aka closet was full of little bugs, but whatever it's not like we're sleeping in there. We walk to the room across the balcony that looks like it might collapse and when we step in there's a bunch of bugs by the window. OK that's really gross but at least it's just by the window. Then I find them in the bathroom flying around, in the ceiling, walls, and the corners. Yes they put some money in this place to redo it, but for the price it's still an old rundown hotel at the end of the day. Don't let the five star reviews fool you - they are running a contest to get more of them as you can see in the photo. Apparently because they are near the ocean there isn't much they can do about the dozens and dozens of living flying insects in the room. I used points to pay for this room, but I'm so desperate at this point I'm going to go pay cash at the Hampton Inn. I love staying at a local chain (we stayed at the historic Sierra Motel in Traverse City), but I've never been so excited for a Hampton Inn and free waffle.

We received a goodie bag with a granola bar, trail mix, and a bottle of water and there was also cold meat/cheeses and a veggie tray to eat if we wanted them (we ended up getting lunch at one of the wineries, so cannot comment on the cold snacks, but the granola bar was tasty). The tour was well paced with 45 minutes to do a wine tasting at each winery. You could tell there was a lot of thought put into the order of the wineries, as the most educational was first and the most relaxing/best views was last. Also, one of the wineries we visited offered lunch and that came at just the right time as it had been a while since breakfast. Our driver, Jeff, was very personable and was able to give information on the different wineries and what they offered. The van seats up to 9, so you could rent it for a small group or drop in on a mixed tour (which is what we did). He picked us up and dropped us off at our hotel, so we didn't have to worry about driving (which is good, because when you do four wine tastings in four hours, you drink quite a lot!).
