Went in after not being in a tanning salon in over 10 years - I know they're going through leadership shifts, but the gal that checked me in and answered my questions was great! Super attentive. The salon is really clean, bright, lots of add on's available if you need them, and plenty of rooms. We'll see if this changes once more leadership is in place, but so far, so good! read more

My 1 month deal turned into a continuous bill of $40 per month. $30 was added onto my first 40 Called district Mgr to complain and she was very unprofessional and rude. Just kept saying that I signed a contract to that. I didn't receive a copy of that and when I was in there I asked for the cheapest deal for about 5 tans. Was told tanning in February would be free and then $40 for a month Got another charge today. Mgr at first refused to cancel the rolling charge. After 4 calls it was finally cancelled. When I came into Sun Tan City a few weeks ago a blonde haired girl helped me and a few of my friends get a student discount and was super nice and helpful. So, we decided to return tonight to get a spray tan with the student discount for an important event tomorrow. Do not trust them to take money automatically out of your account. Before the COVID closures I purchased a monthly membership and paid $105 including a ridiculous membership fee and only tanning twice in 2 weeks. Then they charged me another $65 in June assuming I would run in on the 1st and immediately start tanning. I have only been able to tan 3 times because of COVID, but have paid them $170 which has cost me about $57 each tan. That's outrageous. They should not have charged me for June but apparently believe they are doing me some sort of favor by pro-rating June. What a raket! Their customer service center is worthless. I like to tan before vacation and had a pleasant experience tanning at Sun Tan City last year so decided to go there this year before vacation. Not sure if they are under new management but this year was a totally different experience. Like the other reviews said, the salon is clean but there isn't many places to hang your clothes. Also nothing besides a towel to clean up with. All in all, not a huge deal for me. Here are the real problems for me: 1.) I chose the "faster" package specifically asking about the stand up bed. The employee told me this was the only package that included the stand up bed. It was more expensive than the regular package. On my second visit to the salon, I was informed the stand up bed had been broken for awhile and wouldn't be repair for awhile as the part they were waiting for was on backorder. It's really upsetting to me that I was "sold" the upgraded package without the employee saying anything about the bed being broken. Bad business. 2.) The "up sell" the employees use EVERY time gets old. On my initial visit I was sold a very expensive bottle of tanning lotion. They had a promotion that included some free moisturizer. The next visit the employee asked me what I was using for tanning lotion and then went on to try to sell me "something better." Is that saying the bottle I initially purchased the day before wasn't good? Why does the salon sell is then? The employees "up sell" with every visit. I get asked EVERY time if I want to upgrade my tan that day for $5.95 or if I want to buy a "better" lotion. It's fake and annoying. There was a line one night and the employee rotated between asking "how is your day" and "doing anything fun tonight" and then "what type of lotion are you using" and "how about buying some moisturizer to extend your tan". Lady, there is a line and it's 8pm. Move along. Lesson learned. After my one month is up, I will done with Sun Tan City. Next year I'll go somewhere else. read more

I've been spray tanning at the downtown location and had no problems there. A little streaky on the hands so when I went spray tanning tonight I made sure to put barrier cream on the hands last and make sure it was evenly dispersed. I chose the same tan level as I always choose. Followed the directions of how to stand and everything looked good when I first got out. This morning I notice one leg is darker than the other, my cuticles have build up, and my arms look like this. Disappointed to say the least, wanted an even tan to last a few days before I got a sun tan on vacation. read more

I don't go here often enough to give out the full five stars, and also don't have a membership so can't comment on that. But from what I've experienced the handful of times I've been here I think it's one of the nicer tanning salons. The staff is super helpful and knowledgeable about tanning and membership options, promos, etc. Everything is really clean and their website is useful. read more

I have been to this location and the McKee location a few times in the last couple months and have had a really great experience. I think the places themselves are super clean and look nice. The staff has always been friendly and helpful and they seem to have more than enough booths/bed because I'm usually in and out in no time, if there is a wait they've always let me know. read more

The location is very easy and the beds are always clean and nice. I didn't give it a higher rating because the staff is very touch-and-go. Sometimes I go in there and have a 45 minute wait for what appears to be no real reason. Other times I get in there super fast and the employees are amazing. I see now we can check in on line which is helpful. Should eliminate some of the problems. Now that I have a membership it's much easier, but i almost stopped going before I started because they wouldn't let you go longer than 'recommended' and three times I went I didn't even get a base tan because they only let it go 12 minutes on what seemed to be old lightbulbs. read more

If you're looking for a place that has customer service, you should probably consider another location. Employees are very unprofessional, knowledgeable, and rude on the phone. Apparently, unless you sign up on the first of the month, you are required to pay an additional charge full month's fee. So in other words: mid month to mid month you have to pay for 6 weeks; the two weeks for the end of month A, which is a prorated amount, and then the entirety of month B, which you are charged for at the beginning of them month. BUT WAIT! There's more. Apparently you can pay $118 for 30 days..... which is the same amount for the 6 week price mentioned above. Sound crazy? But then again, this is less about price, because the website is confusing and the employee on the phone doesn't know what she's talking about. When you ask about why things are priced the way they are priced, either on the website or via mouth to mouth, the response I got was: "Sorry, I just work here, I don't know why things are priced the way they are." When asked to speak to a manager: "My manager isn't here." When asked to have a manager call me, the conversation turned very rude and sour. One of the rudest young women I've ever talked to on the phone. POORLY represented her employer. I asked the young woman to have her manager call me within 24 hours, otherwise I'll assume she didn't give my message and I would come in and make a complaint in person. read more

I froze my membership on December 31st at 11:30 PM. After noticing my membership was still active and that I was charged on January 1st, I tried contacting customer service. I tried the online chat service multiple times - no response. I called the customer service line multiple times - no answer. I left a call back number and again - no answer. After two weeks of not being able to contact customer service, I decided to call the salon. I explained the situation to the employee, who evidently turned out to be the manager and was basically accused of lying. Being a former employee, I know that membership fees are supposed to be drafted at midnight. I also know that corporate is located in Kentucky. Knowing this, I asked if maybe the time zones conflicted with the system and caused my account to not appear frozen until after midnight. She was having none of it. Again being a former employee, I know that employees have the phone number to the direct line for customer service reps, instead of waiting on hold for 30 minutes like customers. I asked if she could possibly call them on my behalf or even have them call me to sort this out, since she was unwilling to do so. She flat out refused and said she would have the district manager call me. The district manager called me and basically repeated that I was lying and there was nothing they could do. I decided to just suck it up and use my membership for the remainder of the month. I went in and requested my normal level bed for 10 minutes. My bed shut off after 3 minutes, so I had to get dressed and go back out to the front. The employee frankly did not care. She was unapologetic and rude. I was once again accused of lying and she refused to put me back into the bed for the remaining 7 minutes. (Which is what we always did if beds shut off early when I was employed there.) Customer service at this particular location has slipped drastically. Employees are always on their phones, hardly smile or even greet you when you walk through the door, and there have been numerous occasions where I have walked in and waited at the desk for several minutes before an employee even walks out of the back. I am beyond frustrated. read more

Terrible, i have gotten several spray tans here at this salon and every time i get Medium (clear) and every time the color is different. Sometimes the color is really pretty and deep, other times i have gotten no color. One time i even went and I had tan little polka dots all over my arms i guess because the nozzle on the machine was clogged. Definitely wouldn't recommend this salon to any one. read more

This place is clean and chic with friendly employees. I have enjoyed my experience tanning here, however I agree with some of the other reviewers that their billing is not the most transparent. They advertise "no commitment" monthly memberships but do not fully explain that you are required to pay the pro-rated cost of your sign-up month PLUS a full month (automatically drafted from your account), PLUS a $20 annual maintenance fee. I signed up in the first week of June, so my "pro-rate" was still nearly the price of a full month, and I was then required to pay for all of July AND the annual fee, even though I initially intended to only tan for a few weeks. I was never given or emailed a copy of my agreement, and the $20 fee was never mentioned to me by the employee who signed me up, so being blindsided by that was unfortunate. To make matters even more complicated, a few days into my membership, I was told at the front desk that credit cards were no longer accepted on file, and I had to abruptly provide bank acct# and routing#. The employee (a manager I believe) told me I could pay my July month in advance and the billing would then automatically draft from that account credit, however it did not, so essentially I paid in advance only to have the payment drafted AGAIN from my bank on July 1, and after contacting customer service, the only thing they can do is mail me a check for the credited amount I intended to go towards my membership, which will now take 7-10 days in the mail. This review is not intended to be a rant, like I said, the beds and facility are very nice and customer service was decently helpful, just make sure you ask all the necessary questions when you sign up and don't automatically trust the high-school aged employees setting up your account to explain the billing accurately. read more

Quite honestly Sun Tan City is lucky I have to give at least one star because in my opinion they don't even deserve that. The waits are long, the staff is slow and minimal. After complaining to the manager and calling the national customer service center I cancelled my account. Or at least that what I thought I did when I called and yelled for 30 minutes. Apparently the rep I spoke too didn't take that as me canceling and instead they have continued to charge be $33 every month for nearly a year. My options at this point?? You can come back and tan or have an in store Glo card to buy any tanning products you want. Seriously?! $400+ dollars of charges for services I never used. Waste of time and money. This place has terrible customer service, long waits, untrained staff with a huge turnover rate, understaffed during busy times so makes waits unacceptably long, spray tans are always broken and I don't know how many times I have had to come out of the room and ask them to set the bed - after I've already prepared to tan....and the list goes on and on. There is never any compensation when the VersaSpa is broken- which is every other day, so you basically pay for something that isn't available. Customer service lacks immensely. After giving them several chances, I finally cancelled it. Go to LA Tan- much better service and management. read more

Wow. Run the other way. I looked at their website and wanted to purchase the buy 5 get 3 free. Drove into the store (30 minutes to new West Towne Mall location) and was told that package wasn't available. I told the "clerk" I saw it on their website and she said that it wasn't there anymore. I then opened my smart phone and showed her that yes it was. Oh. was her answer. I then asked her to look over her shoulder at the monitor on the back counter that displayed that package. She didn't have an answer, other that that was available in W. Virginia only. Really? Nice false advertising, or is it a classic case of bait and switch. I have a 50.00 gift card for Christmas for STC, and now can't use it. I WON"T pay $800.00 a year to tan occasionally. She offered me a complimentary tan which I took thinking I might feel better. Of course I had to wait for the bed to be cleaned, which I thought the other employee could have done, but she was busy having her own tan on company time I assume. I got to the room and took off my shoes. Wonder if they clean the floors ever. Like walking on a volcanic beach. Wonder if Wisconsin Health inspector would be interested.... On the way out I asked for a price list so I could look at what they did have. The "clerk" said they don't have any price lists. Really? It's your BUSINESS!! read more

I would have given this place a 2.5 if Yelp would let me, but I guess the 3 will have to do for now. Sun Tan City wasn't bad per say, I mean, the establishment itself was very nice, clean, and modern. The staff was perfectly fine as well, there were just a bunch of little things that added up in the end that annoyed me. The first thing was that the place was pretty overpriced in my opinion, even for a tanning salon. The second was that they didn't offer a student discount..... I mean come on, this is a college town and there's no student discount? All the tanning salons in my hometown had this option, and there's no colleges around for miles. The third thing I encountered was their strange "fingerprinting policy". They made me register my finger prints three times before they would let me get in a tanning bed. I kind of felt like I was a criminal being registered for the line-up, it was very weird. I was also annoyed to find that they didn't offer eyewear for their guests, and made me purchase my own. This I won't complain too much about because I realize a lot of tanning places do this nowadays, I suppose I'm just used to the places in my hometown that all offer free eyewear if you don't have your own. But the last thing that annoyed me was that they didn't offer clean-up stations anywhere in the salon.... at least not that I could find. I've always been provided with facial wipes or kleenex or something during past tanning experiences, but their tanning rooms were devoid of anything of the sort. So I had to leave the tanning salon w/ a very lotiony face.... but in the future I think it'd be a nice touch to offer those things. I was also kind of missing the lack of radio in the rooms. Again, in many other tanning salons I've been to there was a radio/cd player provided for people to listen to while they're in the beds. But Tan City doesn't offer any of that... I don't know, this place just doesn't seem to be trying very hard to be accommodating. They have a nice location with competent staff, but other than that they are doing nothing to make me want to keep coming back. I will probably not be a repeat customer myself. read more

Ouch, my teen daugher, wondering why her checking account was so empty asked me to check her balance...after buying a month of tanning, Sun Tan City continued to debit her account, for several months, before we caught it. I called and was told that "oh since she didn't sign an agreement we should be able to give her a refund"...WHAT??? Who does that? $43 bucks a month, no signed agreement? "oh she should have called and cancelled"...cancelled what? Now I was offered to extend the months...um, no...have a gift card....um, no...or perhaps in a few weeks I might get a check back, but I need to call and check back on the status of the refund...wow. I am not giving any stars to this company. I generally tan before going on a winter vacation. My usual place closed so I went to Sun Tan City. The lady behind the counter was a fast talker and altered what the plan program was while explaining to me. I went in the end of Dec and she convinced me that it would be a better deal to sign up after Jan 1. Well the prices were higher then. This was not explained when there in Dec. Then she made it sound like I could sign up for one month only which is ALL I wanted and I told her this multiple times both times that I was in. Well she had me sign the agreement, which with her rushed sales presentation did not really allow time to read the fine print of the contract. After several long heated discussions I was able to get the contract canceled but had to pay for a second month that I was not even in the country to be able to use for most of it. I agree with previous post about no mirrors. What's up with that. How can you know if you are presentable to back into public. I do not recommend this business to anyone. Pissed off ex-customer!!
