When we arrived, there were some different walkways and gardens behind the inn, which were really cool, but at first we weren't sure if we were in the right place! The instructions that Chris and Maryann gave to find each of the rooms was perfect. There was lots of foliage, fountains, swings, benches, tables, different places to hang out each night. Each room had its own theme and flair to it. The detail in the old building was so cool. The rooms were also very large, and had high ceilings! Our suite, River, was so huge. I have stayed in New Orleans before, and some other Inn rooms are difficult to navigate due to being so small. Not at Blue60 ! The descriptions on the website don't do them justice. The rooms were also immaculate.. everything was very clean down to the linens, sofas, floors, etc. We loved being a quick walk to Frenchmen Street, we found ourselves here each night! It was also within a 10 minute walk to the French quarter, Royal street and Bourbon Street. The only Uber we needed to take was to and from the Inn from the airport. There was a fresh market across the street and a Starbucks. We stopped at the market to get waters and snacks! The only concern we had when booking was some reviews saying that Desire & River were "too loud at night." I have to say , I 100% disagree. Both myself and the group in the other room did not have any problems sleeping. Yes it is a streetfront room, but it is a Main Street, so it is quiet. Once or twice through the whole weekend a loud car drove by, but passed within a few seconds.... We were very very happy here! Often this type of accommodation is hard to find and in this case, location and amenities cost a little be more. And it was certainly well worth it. CONS - None! +/- - There is currently no breakfast service, although judging by what looked like an unused cafe room (near the pool), there might have been pre-COVID. However, there's lots of breakfast choices nearby. - WiFi works better outside. - As our cottage backed up on St. Louis street, we did hear some noise in the evening and morning. - Our Cottage #5 shares a wall with #6 and at the time our neighbors were a young couple who by the sounds of it were having some great sex. A Dinner and a Show! PROS - Beautiful property and a quiet oasis within the French Quarter where nearly everything was a short walk. - Impeccable outdoor area including wading pool and a huge patio outside our Cottage. A big bonus was the great weather we experience why we were here. - 2 very comfortable beds, nice bathroom/shower, and good temperature control. - Wonderful common living room, with a comfy sitting, and frequently replenished coffee, water, and soft drinks. - Pleasant and hardworking housekeeping staff. - Attentive check-in and check-out support from Sean. The bathroom does not have a solid door but there is a curtain for privacy. Dish TV in living room and back bedroom. The clincher is the back covered courtyard area complete with hot tub! The neighborhood is mostly quiet at night (there is an airbnb next door). NOLA is working on passing an ordinance to make airbnb operators actually have to be residents as the industry has exploded so much that folks who work in the area can no longer find close affordable housing. I will return here in the future. Most of the folks who stay here are repeat customers and now I see why. Highly recommended. (I snapped these pics on the last day we were here so ignore luggage.)

Plenty of coffee spots nearby. Also, the restaurant downstairs, (Silk Road) is very accommodating and very friendly. We didn't stay to watch TV or drink coffee in our room. The room was dirty and the bathroom was disgusting. We had to have the room cleaned again and needed new sheets. I new that it was a new owner so I was hoping it was a one time thing, However; I was there this year and it was even worse. The garden area is overgrown and run down. The room was absolutely vile. The shower had mold. I contacted room cleaner and she brought bleach and handed it to me instead of cleaning it herself. The comforter had stains on it and had to be replaced. The sheets had long hair on them and smelled like a wet dog. The room smelled of mold and there was a dehumidifier that had to be emptied twice a day. I WILL NEVER STAY THERE AGAIN. They got their last dollar off of me. Also the rates have gone up tremendously. I can find a much nicer, cleaner, and less expensive place to stay and will. The Royal Barracks used to be epic and now it is a dump. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE! You will be disappointed.

We were debating spending money on a hotel room that had an extra queen bed we didn't even need just so we could guarantee ourselves a place to stay. Then we found out about the Crescent City Guest House. It had everything we wanted: walking distance to the French Quarter, VERY reasonable rates, comfortable rooms, and free off-street parking (a rarity in NOLA!). It also had things we didn't even know we wanted: holiday-themed Mardi Gras beads set out on the bed, a common room with enough information on the city to keep us busy the entire time, friendly owners, a fridge with juice and bagels for any time of day, and a beautifully-landscaped backyard where we relaxed or had a cigarette after a long day of walking. I can easily say I felt more comfortable staying there than basically anywhere else I have stayed. And when I can, I plan on going right back.

The kitchen was always well stocked with bagels, juice, cereal and fresh fruit. My private room was large, AC, high quality linens and towels, toiletries, cable TV and free wifi. Lovely back yard and very secure and safe. The B&B was also on a pick up route for a swamp tour and was close to Frenchman St, and nearby Bywater for local restaurants, cafes, bars. A 5-10 minute walk up Royal St and you were in the French Quarter to all the action. As a single female traveler, I can't imagine staying anywhere else in New Orleans and I'm already plotting my return. We were looking for something cheap, with no bedbugs. A surprising number of cheap NOLA inns and hotels had bad marks on one of the bedbug registries, but not this place -- in fact, one of the Trip Advisor reviews specifically mentioned that they carefully searched for bedbugs but didn't find any. The studios are an amazing value for being in the middle of Bourbon Street and the French Quarter -- $95 plus only a $0.50 tax per night! We found our bedroom to be charming, and we loved the gorgeous courtyard with tons of tropical birdsong every morning. Our studio had a small kitchen with a stove and fridge, but no microwave. Given that this building is from the 1800's, it's not totally spotless, but I thought it was fine and I'm normally kind of OCD about this stuff. If anything, the slight griminess was more of a rustic patina. Very New Orleansy :). On the last day of our trip, we were hoping we could keep our luggage with them for pickup very late in the night, and they were very nice about letting us store our stuff right outside their front door (inside the locked gate). There were a few downsides: As you can see from one of the photos, the bathroom was cramped to the point that it was a little tricky to maneuver yourself onto the toilet. Also, the shower pressure was so weirdly strong that I wondered if it was going to give me a bruise. They didn't have shampoo, conditioner, or a hair dryer, but there was plenty of soap. One other thing that ended up being kind of frustrating was that they required that we send a check in for the deposit -- the first one we sent was somehow delayed an entire month, and after two weeks we had to issue a stop payment order which cost $35. Of course, even with that factored in, it was still the cheapest of the options we were considering. They do accept credit card for paying off the rest of the balance. Some notes on the location: - A block away from the amazing super-ancient Lafittes Bar, probably the only Bourbon St bar that locals actually like! - The street noise was not too bad, but there's definitely some random yelling at times. Bring ear plugs if you're a light sleeper. - A bit of a sketchy area at night. Either there's extremely drunken, impolite Bourbon St tourists, or there's almost no one and it's dark and potentially dangerous. Definitely take a taxi back home when it's past dark.

We lucked out on all three counts with the Bourgoyne Guest House. Check-in involved going across the street to the Clover Grill at Bourbon and Dumaine to get the keys from the guy behind the counter. We stayed in the studio apartment in the back off of the lush, green courtyard and heard no street noise whatsoever even though the action was happening just down the block on Bourbon. Our room had a stocked mini kitchen, and there was no phone or tv (which was fine by us). The room was clean and quaint, and was a nice setting to come "home" to after a full day of running around town. The first morning there we met the owner, who lives on the premises. J is a neat guy with lots of good recommendations for local eats, is a great storyteller, and just plain pleasant all around. We saw him frequently throughout our stay, and it was always nice to run into him and stop for a chat. If I had to say anything less than stellar about the Bourgoyne Guest House, it's that our apartment's bathroom was a bit on the snug side. This is my only reason for four stars, and who knows, maybe the other rooms were more spacious in that regard. Overall, we loved the Bourgoyne. Great location, decent rates, and first class New Orleans charm.
