Great methadone clinic. Coffee is good and free phone use is awesome. And of course the methadone is wonderful!

But suffering from depression after trauma is pretty commonplace these days. I actually decided to try seeing a "woman" because I felt I had been holding back on a few issues with a male therapist I had seen for awhile. He was actually quite good and I felt I was impeding my progress based on not discussing the specific female trauma. This therapist came as a referral, one of several, from a friend's therapist. I called several and all wanted cash upfront and weren't part of my insurance network. This one was listed as in network and confirmed that they were in network and submitted to insurance. To summarize, what would otherwise be a long review of issues, Check your insurance and that this person is indeed in network. Never, pay her direct. Let her submit the claim. She's charging $150/hr for 40 min visit. Let her earn it. She has since been downgraded as the type of provider she is. Which basically means she can charge what she wants and your benefits less. Gee, I wonder why?unscrupulous billing perhaps? Bilking the patient? Saying she will submit your claims and then months later you receive a bill with a note saying to pay her directly and submit the claim yourself. She overcharged by the way as a part of the PPO network. Which is why she likes to have you pay her directly, because if she submitted the claim, she'd only be reimbursed what she agreed upon as part of the network. Then she sends you a bill with incomplete or outdated codes, so your insurance will jerk you around in reimbursement. She doesn't return the insurer's calls or the patient's. The kicker after several months of calling back and forth, not only am I out the amount she overbilled, I'm out one of the claims totally because she failed to call in the 2nd and my last visit to her for approval and you know how insurance is these days, if they can deny a claim they will. It also helps if that you are going to see a "talking doctor" that they actually pronounce your name correctly (after you've corrected them several times) and that they not eat up half your session obsessing about insurance & payment. If I earned $150 bucks an hour (in her case $150 for 40 min), I'd hire a frigging office manager. As a side note, how much do you think these therapists requiring direct payment are actually declaring as income? If I were the IRS I'd do some serious auditing. When I called this woman, she had no record of the bill she sent me or my payment of $300 (which was a Cashier's check). She could easily not declare much of her income and no one would be the wiser. I mean unless you are into the tens of thousands in medical expenses, you can't deduct or itemize much of your medical expense on your tax return. You solely take the standard deduction. What a racket! This woman is probably not declaring much of her income and then also deducting things like laughably her "office" expenses. What a mother flipping joke. No wonder healthcare is thru the roof in this country. As to the response from co-director, there was no confusion. Before I even visited her, I confirmed her status with my insurance. Her tier level changed after about 8 months of back and forth with her bill & the insurance company. The insurance company themselves said they didn't understand why she was having me submit the claim. Her demeanor during sessions was not present (can't pronounce my name right after being corrected & obsessing about insurance during sesssion on both visits). In addition, she kept no record of my visits though I contacted her about my bill within 6 months of those visits.

Despite being at the correct dose (per *some* bloodwork), I was regularly cold, sometimes anxious, quick to go from not hungry to starving, and sometimes lethargic (despite living a very active lifestyle). After just two appointments with Dr. Simms and additional biometric (blood and saliva) testing, we both came to the conclusion that not only was I working against my thyroid by way of the foods that I was eating, but I was also suffering from iron and vitamin D deficiency. Additionally, I had moderate hormonal imbalances. These weren't far-fetched, non-Western conclusion, but founded in more accurate interpretations and more complete biometrics. The "prescription" was a variety of supplements to address deficiencies and excesses. I appreciate that Dr. Simms did not push me to buy the supplements offered at her clinic, as this would have been a turn-off for me. Through some research, I was able to meet my nutritional and supplements needs in an affordable way. I have not yet had my biometrics re-run, but I know that I am better off. I sleep better, feel better (mood and energy), am no longer cold, and more relaxed. I highly recommend arranging for a consultation with her and bring any existing blood work results to support your discussion. Though she was not covered by my insurance, she was well-worth the cost. And, I was able to pay for my bills with my medical savings account.

Our first appointment was virtual and I found her to be very attentive and engaging. She allowed ample time to discuss my concerns and objectives where my health was concerned. She was able to set up a protocol which included supplements, diet & exercise. Along the way, I have found her to be available to me for any questions and concerns that I may have had and has always replied in a very timely fashion. Today marks one month exactly since I've been on the regimen and I am so pleased to say that my symptoms have improved tremendously! She truly cares about helping her patients resolve their issues and attain optimal health. If you are in search of a highly qualified and knowledgeable doctor to address your WHOLE health, I strongly recommend Dr. Simms.

A formal complaint has been filed with the state regulatory board. I was a patient of Dr. Mills for over 6 years. During my last appointment, he felt it was appropriate to share his personal feelings on DEI and expressed that he is pleased with the way that things are shifting away from DEI to being "merit-based" because DEI was discriminatory to white men and people who are not LGBT+. As a woman who identifies as part of the LGBT+ community, I became very uncomfortable, told him that this was an inappropriate subject, and stated that I would be seeking a new provider to continue my treatment. He reacted appalled, and couldn't understand why I would be offended. I moved on and tried to go back to the purpose of the call: to assess my treatment and medication (am I eating, am I sleeping, etc). At the end of the appointment, I declined to schedule a follow up and immediately found a new provider. Three weeks later, I received an email from Dr. Mills with the subject line "termination". See below for full text. He attempted to terminate a relationship that was already terminated, acting as if I owed him an apology for standing my ground and expressing my discomfort while calling me "reactive and illogical". This rhetoric from a certified psychiatrist is not only inappropriate, it is abusive and damaging to patients who are seeking help. He is unable to manage his own emotions when a patient expresses discomfort on a subject and should not be trusted with providing support to anyone who needs mental health support/treatment. Avoid at all costs. Email text is as follows: Good morning Amy After thinking about our last conversation on 9/24, I have decided it is in my best interest to terminate our working relationship. I did absolutely NOTHING wrong by explaining that some folks are pleased with the shift away from DEI to a merit-based system. That is not even an opinion...it is REALITY. Your stated intention to fire me for saying something that is entirely FACTUAL was out of line and disrespectful to me and our working relationship over the past 6 years and I am not able to work with someone who would be this reactive and illogical in their behavior towards me. You've had 3 weeks to consider your words and apparently you feel no apology or explanation is owed to me and I find that unacceptable. Your last Rx will be released on 11/9 and, after that, I wish you well in your search for a new provider. Regards, Dr.Mills

My experience working with Amanda Ferrari was overwhelmingly negative. After several months of therapy, I left feeling significantly worse than when I started. The experience had such a profound negative impact on my mental health, that after ending therapy with Amanda, I sought care from another therapist to help me process and recover from what I experienced during "treatment". I try to exercise care when writing reviews such as this one, but this is the type of therapist that you should avoid at all cost. She has, what I believe to be, a deeply rooted bias against men.
