Hosted by Suzanne Bona, Sunday Baroque is absolutely favorite radio program. The shoe began in 1987, and is now distributed nationally on about 200 stations. I'm always learning and enjoying something new each Sunday morning. It's not stuffy or overly pedantic, just lots of great music and a few words to provide context or spark interest. If you go to the website, there's a wonderful blog and interviews with some of the artists featured on Sunday Baroque. For example, my favorite performing group, Chatham Baroque, is recently including with a fascinating, in-depth interview. I can't fully express how much I love this show. Love classical music but oh boy what a mistake I've made by buying antique radio box thinking that 90.1 classical music station of Fairfield CT will bring me peace and joy. Perhaps I'm spoiled by Sirius XM radio, no commercials ever, no annoying conversation by radio announcers who want to display their boring personalities and want to show how cool they are. I don't understand how and why terrestrial radio is still in business. I pay $100 a year for Sirius XM and get access to any musical genres I want period!!! IPeople get Sirius radio once for all !!!! read more

History

Established in 1987.

"Sunday Morning Baroque" was born on September 6, 1987 on WSHU Public Radio in Fairfield, CT. It was a 90 minute "filler" program between two network shows, airing from 8:30-10am, and the only instructions given were to "play baroque music." Armed with a newly minted degree in music, Suzanne Bona had never even set foot in a radio station before, and it was truly seat-of-the-pants learning. Listeners like you responded enthusiastically, and Sunday Morning Baroque lived and grew and expanded on WSHU. On September 6, 1998 -- eleven years to the day later -- the newly renamed "Sunday Baroque" was launched as a national program on four pilot stations in addition to WSHU: WGUC Cincinnati, KBAQ Phoenix, WETA Washington, DC, and WUSF Tampa. Today, more than 200 stations across the United States broadcast the program to hundreds of thousands of listeners, and Sunday Baroque is still growing as we continue to welcome new stations and new music lovers.

excellent programs…read more if you love jazz then you will love jazz cafe. if you love jazz vocals then you found the right station. they play so much vocal jazz it is awesome. can't beat the human voice - best musical instrument in the world. they also have a good program on weekends sinatra and bing crosby.

When I was about 12, I won two tickets to a private O-Town concert through the station. I was beyond excited, but there was one problem--I have two sisters who were around 10 or 11 at the time, and I had only won two tickets. My dad wasn't going to let me go if one of my sisters had to be left out. He called the station and explained the situation, asking if there was any chance they could spare one extra ticket. I think it may have been Kerry Collins who helped us, although I could be remembering that part wrong after all these years. Whoever it was didn't have to say yes, but they did. They gave us an extra ticket so all three of us could go together. At the time, it just felt like the best day ever. Looking back as an adult, I realize someone at KC101 chose to make a small exception that probably seemed insignificant to them, but it meant everything to three little girls. It's a memory my sisters and I still talk about all these years later. So thank you to whoever made that happen--whether it was Kerry Collins or another kind person on the KC101 team. You'll probably never know how much that simple act of kindness meant, but it's one of the reasons I'll always think so fondly of KC101.

WPKN just had their Reggae Marathon to commemorate "Bob Marley's" Birthday and lets just say I really got in the spirit. The reggae guys are on every Tues/wed mourning and even though I don't always understand what they're saying I am a fan. My new favorite is DJ "Binni" (Thur 10:am till Noon) her music is quirky but not in an annoying way and it fits the time slot just right.It doesn't hurt that not only does she have a voice that's like a Cerebral massage , but she is also a fan of the pugilistic arts and often speaks on this.
