I asked Trevor to take a look at the job, and he said he would go right over and get started. Because of our prior experience working together, I assumed pricing would be fair. No written estimate, contract, or verbal pricing discussion was provided before work began. Before sending me the invoice, Trevor asked me to leave a Google review. Since the job was done efficiently, I posted a great review. Immediately afterward, I received an invoice for $13,640 for the removal and cleanup of two fallen trees and only a day and a half of work. I was stunned by the price and when I questioned the amount, Trevor explained that the pricing included emergency, weekend, and Easter holiday rates. However, none of those additional charges or pricing structures had been discussed with me beforehand. Had I known the total cost in advance, I would not have agreed to proceed without getting additional bids. As the homeowner, it is my decision to determine if something is an emergency or not. I later learned that California licensed contractors are required to provide written estimates or contracts for jobs over $500 before starting work. I was never provided either. I asked whether the price could be adjusted a bit to help offset my out-of-pocket costs with insurance, but Trevor was unwilling. My issue is not with the physical work performed, but with the inflated price and lack of pricing transparency before the work began given such a shockingly large invoice. I'm sharing this experience so others can beware of this issue when dealing with this company.
