I think one star is generous and that is after just 24 hours in this place! I brought my dad to a rehab that seems to lack providing basic care. Their only excuse so far is that they lack resources , but that might explain waiting more than an hour for someone to show up after you rung the bell, but not the rest : not giving food on time, not knowing how much food to be given through the feeding tube, not wearing gloves when you dispense medication or medicate/ interact with patient and a lot more that I will not go on here since I am told that tomorrow someone from administration and management will discuss. The only one professional here was the doctor that came to see my dad last night, shared the phone and allowed me to text my concerns and passed along . PS: second day was a slight attempt to correct a few issues and alleviate some of the aggravation caused to my dad but it lasted just till evening...next day started with no AC when outside the temperature reached 105F index heat and when my dad started to have breathing problems, for an hour no one will come for an hour to monitor him or give him any help with the exception of one supervisor's 3 min spent with an unsuccessful attempt to take his blood pressure. And my dad ended up in the hospital again! Those places do not deserve a license to operate such a facility and the state should inspect them thoroughly! read more

Awful, horrible, neglectful, disgrace of a facility. My father contracted gangrenous wounds on his feet inside this facility because the "doctor" on staff neglected his complaints of foot pain. A doctor, who specializes in geriatrics, neglects an 80-year-old diabetic man's complaints of foot pain?!?! Actually, she neglected everything because she was never there! Just the completely USELESS physician's assistant whose favorite phrase is, "I don't know." We had to PAY an outside podiatrist who comes once a week to diagnose his wounds and request further treatment. Treatment that the staff ignored which is why he then developed a skin condition on his legs and feet because they were never cleaned. They -and by they I mean the absolutely sorry excuse of a social services staff- decided to move my father to the second floor where he was brutally ignored, not taken for PT or OT, and I found his pills on the floor numerous times. Just thinking back to the treatment he received brings tears to my eyes. The second floor is filthy and the lack of attention is shameful. The staff doctor even ADMITTED the care on the second floor is not the same as the first floor and they are, "working on fixing that." Lady, I don't think you should have said that out loud to a patient's family. He fell twice, we had to have him rushed via ambulance to the E.R once, he was discharged and after TWO DAYS at home we had to call an ambulance because he had a massive bone infection. It seems Sunharbor doesn't see it as a cause for alarm when one of their patients with open, gangrenous wounds starts displaying symptoms of cellulitis. Red, swollen leg and fever? Nothing to see here, just get him out, it's not our problem. This place should be shut down by the board of health. The three arms of the facility -medical, physical therapy, and dialysis- don't talk to each other and operate in their own silos. It's absolutely mind-blowing when you ask the nurse why she is giving TWO high blood pressure medications to someone who had to stop dialysis hours earlier due to low blood pressure and her response is, "I just follow what is here." The ONE positive, if I must state one, is that dialysis here is run by Winthrop Hospital and the techs were fantastic. Let it be known these facilities who offer dialysis make MONEY on dialysis patients. It may not be in the facilities "best interest" to rehab and release dialysis patients. There were also a couple of very caring people in the PT department who should go work somewhere else if they haven't already left or been fired. Awful, horrible, neglectful, disgrace of a facility with very questionable ethics. After touring several different facilities with my wife the nurse, lots of research, conversing with management, we chose Sunharbor for my grandfather's rehabilitation, and are beyond happy. From the charming lobby entrance, to the positive attitude of the staff, we knew gramps would receive good care, and he did. I am dumbfounded by some of these negative reviews posted as they do not describe the experience my grandfather and I had at all. Some seem drug seeking, or the type that transfer their loved ones to several different rehabs before they realize they're the problem, not the rehab. My wife and I are in the medical field so we have encountered plenty of patients/families like this unfortunately. And we were ecstatic with the care. Michele the assistant administrator was so involved in communicating with my wife and I regularly. The therapy my grandfather received was phenomenal and I am looking into possibly him receiving therapy from the same team on the outside just for maintenance purposes because that is how great they were. Overall the nursing staff were very attentive and caring. He came home with a new eyeglass case given as a gift from one of the aids. On his down time there was a lot to do recreational wise. During early afternoon the facility tends to be busier which was good for stimulation and pushed him to socialize rather than isolate. Otherwise the facility was quiet and peaceful. He made a few friends during bingo that he'd have coffee with in the morning. He was there for the full 100 medicare days and I feel like he's a new man. Came home the day before Christmas Eve and the entire family was shocked by how happy and upbeat he was, and in great spirits. Better condition and attitude than before his fall. My husband was at Sunharbor Manor for 3 weeks. The place is immaculate. The staff is very friendly, from the nurses to the aides, and the physical therapists. He received physical therapy regularly, and in between someone came daily to walk with him. The doctors on staff gave wonderful care, always on top of everything, and communicated with me through out his stay. The administrator went above, and beyond always asking if my husband needs anything, and even visiting him to make sure everything is ok. My husband came to Sunharbor Manor unable to walk, and left only needing a cane. I highly reccommend Sunharbor Manor to anyone who needs a rehabilitation facility. read more

my father went for physical therapy and dialysis. Nice facility, they have a great staff. my father would argue the quality of care as he just likes to complain and not follow rules. In the end he got the care and rehabilitation he needed. read more

Are you people kidding me with these great reviews?? I guess you don't visit your loved ones that often to really see what is going on !! Because what's going on is absolutely nothing !! Every thing is a wait !!! These poor ppl. Are holding their bowels and their bladders so long that the entire place smells like urine and you know what else. Nothing is cleaned or sanitized it's a breeding ground for disease. THe wheel chairs are soaked with urine. It's a disgrace. The only ppl. Working here are the rehab exercising the patients. I wouldn't serve half this food to my dog ! And I mean it. The floors are so dirty that my shoes stick to the floor. It's absolutely repulsive. The aids are nasty and lazy. But not too lazy to flirt with a male co worker at any time. The place is a smelly mess. Get out while your still alive !!!! read more

how does this place stay open? it should be permanently closed. i was given wrong meds or too much medication, sat in dirty diaper for hours, very short staffed, food infused with salt and hot pepper flakes (I have ulcers, gerd, barretts esophagus, hiatal hernia), nurse Demilla? had inferiority complex, tv went off every hour, phone difficult to operate, everyone is on voicemail, no one responds to the call button for hours. The staff did not give my family any feedback as to my progress, no communication between administration and clinical staff, how does nurse Arthur keep his job? he gave me all my pills for the day at once. He is arrogant, called me "girl", supposed to clean area under my breasts, told me to just throw more powder on as he was going on break. My family came to take me home as they had also observed that I was neglected, I had to leave. The entire facility has a very bad attitude. PT was good. Other patients escaped the same night that I did, with similar complaints. How do they get accredited? read more

The only reason I am giving Sun Harbor one star is because I want to give a shout out to Archie and Michelle. They were caring and efficient. And the place was clean. However, my elderly father's recent multi-week stay was an exercise in dealing with incompetence and disinterest. He was there for PT and intravenous antibiotic treatments. For the first week, no one bothered to take him for additional walks in the hall...a distinct order from physical therapy (I found out about it and yelled); they ran out of his infusion med and he had to wait until it was delivered (my mother yelled); and since the doctor was on vacation, no doctor saw him (sorry, but a nurse practitioner is not a doctor). I ended up demanding that the doctor who had now come back from vacation call me and when I went through the litany of complaints he had no excuses. He was very kind and caring and must know how inferior Sun Harbor is. Additionally, there is the moronic policy of patients not being permitted to spend time alone in their rooms unless they are in bed. Otherwise they either sit in a wheelchair in the hall or they go to a large room - we called the holding pen - and then are herded like wheelchair-bound cattle into a depressing dining room for meals. And then they wait for possibly an hour to be brought back to their room for bed. My mother was there during the day so he was able to stay in his room for lunch and we had to hire someone to be there during dinner so he could have the privacy and peace to eat alone. I am familiar with other rehab facilities and have never heard of this. Obviously this is for the convenience of the staff, not the good of the patient. Ultimately, most of what happens at Sun Harbor is for the good of the staff, not the patient. Perhaps they pay below scale, perhaps they are over worked, perhaps they are understaffed...the patients and family shouldn't care about that. If you have a job to do, you do it. The quality of the care ranged from hostile to mildly interested to apathetic. There were minimal exceptions, but for the most part, they were going through the motions and could have been selling shoes for all they cared. The physical therapists were good, but with the amount of patients at one time it was impossible for each patient to be given quality time and care. The department responsible for discharge could not be less helpful or incompetent. These are the most vulnerable patients and they deserve better than Sun Harbor provides. Beware: Without a family member there every single day and someone constantly on the phone to advocate and scream and yell, patients will languish until someone gets around to them. read more

They do a good job of only posting certain photos here. The first floor is all made up to be beautiful and inviting but where people actually stay is upstairs in a crap hole. Dirty floors and walls peeling paint old broken furniture and nasty staff.My Grandfather has been in this place for a few days and its been a horrible experience for my whole family. He tries to call them to help him use the restroom and they ignore him and leave him to use a diaper then come in an hour later to change him. The man is capable of using the restroom when he needs to he just needs help getting out of bed and walking there. These people are rude and have no consideration what so ever for the patients or their families. I asked a nurse if she can help us he had to use the restroom and was leeway sitting up in the bed ready to go and the nurse said to me "he's gonna have to wait I have too many people to help, tell him to wait" then proceeded to walk away mumbling "what these people think I have to do everything here?" And we yelled THIS IS YOUR JOB! I understand they do not make $30 an hour but if you cannot have compassion and just be nice to people you should not be working in this place. These poor people have not much time left and to be treated like garbage and animals and not taken care of correctly like any human deserves is not right. My advice to anyone looking here if you care about your loved one or friend you need to look elsewhere please, don't put yourself through what my family and I are going thru. read more
