Our mission is to transform your adventure into a lifetime activity that will educate, inspire, and energize you unlike any other activity. We want to expose people to the amazing diversity of marine life in both fresh and salt water while at the same time teaching divers about an environment that can benefit from their care - one dive at a time.

History

Established in 1978.

We started a small store in Jersey Shore to serve the growing number of scuba divers in our area. We not only offered PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) certified scuba courses and a number of lines of scuba equipment for your diving needs. In 1992, STSC was awarded the rating of PADI Five Star Instructor Development Center, awarded to only the top training facilities in the country. In 2004 we became a National Geographic Dive Centers which are PADI's elite dive centers with the highest customer standards and product offerings. In 2010 STSC was one of only three scuba centers in the Northeastern United States nominated for the PADI Americas Project Aware International Marine Environmental Award. In 2013 STSC was recognized as a PADI Green Star Facility. STSC owner, Rich Best received the SSI (Scuba School International) Platinum Pro Diver Award.

Meet the Business Owner: Rich B.

Rich Best who was born in Norfolk, VA and raised in Levittown, PA, is the owner of Sunken Treasure Scuba Center. Has been married to his wife Hope since 1973. They have two children, Travis who you can also find around the store most of the time and Colin who stops in from time to time. Rich was certified in 1975 through PADI, NAUI and YMCA. In 1978 he opened Sunken Treasure Scuba Center (STSC). He graduated from PADI International College in San Diego, CA in 1979 and became a PADI Master Instructor in 1988. In 1992 he became a PADI IDC Staff Instructor. 2013 Rich received the SSI Platinum Pro5000 award from SSI (Scuba Schools International). Qualified to teach over twenty PADI specialties and DAN O2, you'll always find him around the store or a local dive site in the spring, summer and fall. Diving is his Lifestyle not just a job
