Not sure they are in business to stay in business . . . because they like losing money. 1. First let me say that I truly appreciate that Sunmark took my auto loan at around $50,000. My credit was not stellar and I truly appreciate that they even took the loan. 2. My rep asked me if I wanted Gap and Disability insurance, on the loan. I have (for free at my work) disability insurance of over $150k in case of illness or death. I do NOT need or want Disability insurance, so I declined. 3. They quietly added disability to my loan without telling me. I was quoted about 10% interest and a payment of around $820/month. 4. My final loan payment was over $100 higher than expected !!!! 5. It was higher because hey added in a cost of over $6,000 for disability insurance that I don't need. Don't want, and verbally declined. 6. I accept partial responsibility as, I signed the loan without noticing this detail. That was a fail on my due diligence. I get that part. 7. Now that I have had time to go over things thoroughly, I noticed the disability insurance that was added in, and driving up my loan payment. So, I called to find out about getting it removed. 8. I was informed that because my loan was just over 30 days old, they could no longer remove the disability insurance for the loan. They can remove it, but I will still pay for it. WHAT??? So, someone gets to pocket $6k if I remove the insurance? What kind of bank is this? 9. I explained to SunMark that I do understand their position. However, I already have another bank willing to refinance it at the same rate, without the insurance added, and will lower my payment. 10. Sunmark told me . . they can't help me. And So, I will now move forward with First New York FCU, who has offered to help me out. 12. Simple Math: Sunmark rather LOSE over $16k in interest on a $50k loan, than to remove the dumb insurance that I never asked for to begin with. And have no use for. 13. Looks like they prefer to lose money than to do the right thing. Lastly - Sunmark gave me a chance when my credit was low. That's the two stars. Maybe they can help you. But if you do go with Sunmark, read your loan papers with a microscope. Don't get swamboozled with their verbal agreements. READ THE FINE PRINT. BYE BYE SUNMARK. read more

I regret opening an account at Sunmark. I joined just a couple of weeks ago, and I have only had sporadic access to my own money. In this short time, my account has been "blocked" at least four separate times due to suspected fraudulent activity. My account was blocked outside of normal business hours, leaving me completely locked out of my funds for 36 hours. I spent hours on the phone trying to get my card turned back on but ultimately just gave up. I agree with a lot of other comments. Sunmark used to be very good. I was able to call the branch and actually speak to someone. Not anymore. I can't even get a response via email. Was sitting at a dealer looking to get rates to purchase a vehicle and was told someone would call me back within 48 hours or just fill out the app on line. Lousy attitude is all I got. Customer service is gone from Sunmark. I am looking elsewhere to switch all my accounts. read more

Talking down and arguing to elderly clients? The VISA payment process on-line is a joke. I was trying to make paymentss to zero out my account one payment was made on 2/22 posted on my visa on 2/23 and on my cash account on 2/24. An additional for amounts previously pending payment was made on 2/24 and posted on my visa and checkING on 2/24. The "balance" on my Visa account ON 2/24 apparently was incorrect and it included previously paid Items? Sunmark apparenly has no transparent way of acknowledging that the payment was made on line? IM SORRY, IF DEBITS AND CREDITS CANT BE DONE IN REAL TIME IN 2026, THAN THE CR NEEDS TO HAND IN THERE LICENSE TO PRACTICE IN NYS! Ever since they did a systems upgrade I've had nothing but problems. Today I called to ask a question about one of my accounts and apparently I didn't answer one of the security questions right or I said the wrong account number and the representative said she could no longer speak to me and I had to go to one of the branches in person to properly identify myself. She wouldn't let my try to correct the wrong answer or ask me a different security question. I used to love sun mark but I've had so many problems since this upgrade and sadly I will be looking for a new bank. read more

This business has gone downhill. It use to be one of the best credit union in the area. I've been a member for 36 years. The teller use to be helpful and informed. I've notice through the years employees leaving and their replacements, not friendly, and rude. They took away the drive thru tellers, even though it was very busy operation. Check your loans! Sunmark had a major system update in Sept 2025 that affected may accounts. My auto loan auto payment did not go through, so I logged into to make a one time payment and Sunmark processed it incorrectly. This resulted in paying more interest than I should have. Sunmark has had several attempts to fix without resolution. They have since reversed and reapplied payments that have different effective dates then what is actually shown on the account. This is dishonest and Sunmark has not reached out to customers to tell them what is going on with there accounts. They also stopped reporting loan status's to the major credit bureau's back in July / August. This shows a higher balance than what is owed loans and can affect any credit application made after that time. They need to fix the system and credit back customers for the impact to there accounts and credit. read more

I have gotten numerous car loans from Sunmark. Regardless of my credit at the time, I got lower rates than anywhere else. They were extremely helpful, and the turnaround time was quick. I also have a mortgage and home equity thru Sunmark. Both had better than expected rates, and quick turnaround. I've been a member for about 20 years. read more

**TRIPLE CHECK YOUR BALANCE** Spent too much of my day disputing a late fee on a loan payment. Threats of fees and credit bureau involvement. Upon speaking to the third person of the day, guess what I hear back, "I have some good news. We went back through our payments and we found the payment you made". This review has nothing to do with the Hudson branch. If it wasn't for the great service provided by Shelley and Robin, I would have cleared out of there a day after they took over Columbia-Greene FCU. You cannot contact the branch by phone. You must call a call center. You can sit on hold for ridiculous periods of time til an agent picks up the phone. You can leave your phone number when prompted to do so, but if the prompt actually functions, good luck getting a call back. Now I just get into the car and visit the branch...which no one should have to do. Very inconvenient most of the time. read more

I applied to get pre-approved for a mortgage and the loan originator I was assigned was not knowledgable about much of anything and unable to answer basic questions. The originator started texting me and pestering me, and it felt a little predatory. They also did a hard pull on my credit twice in the same day, putting a dent in my credit score. The originator had quickly referred me to a real estate agent, who I decided to see a couple properties with with until I found my own agent. The agent was equally incompetent, and I knew more about the properties than the agent did. I did a quick google search of the real estate company, and realized that the loan orignator was ALSO a real estate agent at that same company! Another google search of these two agents revealed they also had an unrelated side business together. This all seems unethical at best. read more

Do not apply for a car loan at sunmark Depending on your credit score they will give you 90 percent of the car value based on Kelly Blue Book I talked to 3 different representative s about the exact same car and gave me 3 different values and no one could explain why They said my credit score was low but willing to give me 20,000 based on car value Makes no sense read more

Sunmark will start to charge a fee for mailed banking statements! I object to this; I strongly believe if a person feels leery, uncomfortable or cautious about setting up an online account or receiving online banking statements due to many incidents of personal and financial information being stolen (identity theft), they SHOULD NOT BE CHARGED A FEE to continue to receive their banking statements by mail. Sunmark is intentionally forcing a customer to go paperless and placing a monetary cost on a customer for making a choice that makes him/her feel more comfortable. Sunmark's excuse is they have a processing fee or cost associated with generating paper statements, which is utter nonsense and something they can afford. Tactics used to pressure a customer to do something is NEVER GOOD! I hope Sunmark will reconsider their decision! read more

I was very happy banking with Sunmark when it was only a few branches, but as they expanded, the customer service went downhill. They make mistakes and the customer has to pay for them. I applied for a car loan, they checked my credit score and never called me. When I walked in the branch to complain and close my account, they didn't even care they were losing a customer. They have pushed me back to the big banks which are way better and they don't promise to excel in service, they just do it. read more

worst experience ever trying to get a loan which they steered me to. Had a credit rating of 817, excellent payment history. They put one obstacle after another for me to hurdle. After two months I finally gave up and told them to close the loan. THEN, they sent me a letter telling me why I was refused the loan. Which I never was at any time in two months of sending them one proof of this or that sometimes twice. Not once did they say I didn't qualify. Well at 69 years of age I think I know the real reason. This Credit Union used to be a great place to do business, but not any more. They stopped paying me interest on one of my accounts in which I had several thousand dollars. Yes! You read that correctly, the interest rate went to ZERO with no notice from the Credit union. Services for seniors keeps on going down hill too. They make seniors walk in for services that previously could be done at the drive-through. They were fair and honest. But that has all changed now, especially when the last regime rolled in. This seemed to get worse when they went from a federal credit union to a state credit union. Sunmark management decided to pay about $250,000 in attorney fees to make the change from federal to state run and it went down hill even faster. I've worked for a bank and a credit union and I can say this with confidence: Go with a credit union. They are member-driven and work for you, not the big corporations. If you think you matter at a big name bank, you're very wrong. Beyond just choosing a credit union, choose this credit union. When I worked at a bank, they would not give me a loan. Sunmark did. Not only that, the loan officer who assisted me (Elena P.) was incredibly friendly and supportive. Even though we never met face to face as I initiated the process online, Elena made me feel as though I had an ally during the process who had made me her priority. I've worked with this credit union for years BECAUSE of their customer care and personal attention. I understand things change but the recent changes in the Ballston Spa branch management have completely soured my opinion of credit unions as member first. The Sunmark I came to know employed people that were relatable, compassionate and knowledgeable--people who went above and beyond--that has disappeared with a new manager and my communications about it months ago to their corporate office were met with defensive support of the new manager. In an industry that must stay competitive for customers, not so sure that supporting a condescending, controlling manager will get the job done. The location in Glenville NY is the worst branch around. They took all the tellers out and replaced them with machines so the line is always very long. If you have to wait for a bank rep to speak to then you will have to wait well over an hour because the one if two that they have in the office always seem to be chatting about personal topics instead of helping the person so others don't have to wait forever to get seen. The WORST! Hostile customer service policy! I liked them at first; they gave me a good rate for a car loan and actually let me refinance 1/2 way through the loan once my credit improved. BUT.... after 4 1/2 years of regular car payments, due to an error, I didn't make April or May 2014 payments. Although I was still in the grace period for May, on June 5th they sent a repo guy to my job and REPOSSESSED my car!!!!!!!!!!!! I was in a panic and called the bank. The customer service person was incredibly rude on the phone. I ended up having to pay April,. May, and June, (which wasn't due for 10 more days), + $605.00 in repo/towing fees. WHAT THE HELL? Who repossesses a car that is not even 2 full months past due? I couldn't believe this. This place doesn't function like a credit union. I have told everyone I know about this story. No one else can believe it either. I hate this bank. read more
