When a Manager Becomes the Reason to Leave a Restaurant! Our visit to Sunny Side Up was unfortunately one of the most unpleasant restaurant experiences we have had in a long time. We stopped by for breakfast before leaving Frankfurt and had already placed our order. I was carrying a paper bag containing a muffin from another shop. The muffin remained in the bag under the table the entire time. I neither ate it nor took it out of the bag. A young man who introduced himself as the manager then approached our table. Instead of addressing the situation politely, professionally, and discreetly, he loudly confronted me in front of other guests in an inappropriate manner. His attitude was aggressive, condescending, and disrespectful. Of course, a restaurant has every right to set rules regarding outside food. No one was questioning that. What was completely unacceptable, however, was the way he chose to treat paying customers. When I explained that I was not eating the muffin and expressed my concern about his behavior, he showed no interest whatsoever in resolving the situation constructively. On the contrary, when I said that we would rather leave under those circumstances, he essentially told us to go ahead. So we left the restaurant, leaving our already served coffee behind. In my opinion, anyone who treats guests in this manner is not suited for a customer-facing role, let alone a management position. Hospitality is not merely about enforcing rules; it is about treating people with respect, tact, and basic decency. His behavior reflected the exact opposite. What I find particularly troubling is that this kind of conduct increasingly seems to be regarded as normal. It feels like a reflection of a broader societal decline in courtesy, respect, and common decency. This is simply not how customers should be treated. The name "Sunny Side Up" appears to aim for an American-style breakfast culture built on friendliness, openness, and good service. Unfortunately, it remains little more than a façade. While the restaurant attempts to imitate an American concept, it fails at the very thing that defines it: friendly, professional, customer-oriented service! We left the restaurant disappointed and upset. Based on this experience, we will not be returning and unfortunately cannot recommend Sunny Side Up. read more

Great healthy and trendy cafe in Frankfurt. The juices are really good and I enjoyed my cleansing juice. The matcha raspberry latte was really cute and tasted great. The vegan pancakes were delicious and tasted like normal pancakes but were probably better honestly. The egg toast was cooked perfectly and was super delicious. Sunny Side Up has a lot of great reviews, so I decided to try it for breakfast after an 8 hour flight to Frankfurt. It was very busy on a Saturday, so I had to sit outside. It was very chilly, but they have heating units above each table, and they even provided blankets. I ordered the Benedict Bagel (see picture). The bagel was just right as it was not dense and difficult to cut. The poached eggs and hollandaise were perfect, as was the avocado spread and greens. I observed the other tables, and many of their breakfast and brunch menu items looked very tempting as well. read more

This is a great breakfast place with healthy options including vegan and gluten free! The ambiance was trendy and bright. The staff was friendly and welcoming. The Barrata Toast was fantastic! I would recommend toning down the tomato spread a little because it was pretty strong, but still delicious. The Benedict's Bagel was delicious. So many great flavor combinations that just work! As the name suggests, Sunny Side Up is a cheery spot for you to grab your morning meal, whether it be just a coffee or actual breakfast/brunch. I ordered the beetroot latte in an attempt to try something a bit more adventurous. To be honest, it just tasted like a regular latte, but I can't complain. I'm curious if the butterfly pea latte has a distinct taste or not. Also had the Cherry Lady fruit bowl, which was beautifully presented and all the fruits were fresh. read more

The former rooms of Townhouse Coffee and Burgerschmiede have found new life with Sunny Side Up. Since my office is right next door, we have been here to enjoy a team breakfast several times. So far, I have tried their Circle of Trust and Holy Guacamole while my co-workers have been munching through everything the breakfast menu has to offer. Everyone has been enjoying their food so far, but I have to say that the Circle of Trust is definitely my favorite. So yummy! They also make decent coffee and smoothies. The only reason why I am knocking off one star is due to the sometimes unorganized service and high takeout prices. The staff is really friendly, but some of the waitresses are a bit overwhelmed and keep forgetting who ordered what/bringing things nobody ordered. And if you order a flat white to go, you will get a pretty small coffee beverage that will still set you back more than 4 EUR. read more

I don't know if this is a good restaurant or not, I think that the food is excellent (as it certainly looked Very Good) when I got to my table my table and turned on my Google translate app to read the menu (German to English) - I realized that it was a Vegan restaurant. I don't have any negative feelings about those who choose that way of living but it just not for me. I must say that the food looked delicious with lots of pastries & pancakes and probably should have stayed and enjoyed a very good meal but I left. This otherwise lovely café is too loud. Even when sitting opposite the counter at the window, away from the primary dining area, it is still quite loud. This was on a Saturday afternoon at around 4pm and the place was perhaps 80% full. 'Loud' is of course subjective, so I downloaded and installed a decibel meter on my phone and took a reading. See the attached photo. The average loudness was 80 decibels and this is quite loud for a restaurant. This mean, one has to speak a little bit louder with one's partner and the overall loudness can be draining on one's energy. One notices this clearly upon leaving the establishment. Of course, I don't expect a cafe to be quiet, but I also would not wish to leave it feeling the need for some peace and quiet. Perhaps it is due to all the windows, floor tiles and mostly clean walls that reflects the conversations and music and with otherwise little to absorb the noise. The staff were quite friendly and helpful and the food tasted nice. I won't be back, unless I know I can visit it at a more quiet time. read more
