During heavier rains the work done has created leaks in the roof. Despite several attempts to repair it, it continues to leak and the promises to repair it during the next heavy rain has not been addressed for the last three rains and phone calls are not returned as to when or how they will address the problem that they created. The generation of the electric is great but having things inside the building get wet because of their work is not worth the return. They asked what it would take to get me to sign, so I named a price 20% less and they came very close to that through "commercial" pricing. I'm sure it's all a gimmick, and I don't care because I got a very fair price. So, their pitch is a bit high-pressure, but yours can be too. Negotiate! When they came to do the work, they were on-time, communicated well, and did high-quality work. And they left a clean job site every night and at the end (most unusual and a marked contrast to previous roofers I had used. When we found a couple of screws at the inspection at the end (really nothing, compared to previous crews from other companies), the rep. apologized. If I could ding them a half-star, I would, because some members of the team did not using fall-arrest harnesses, but it's their workmen's comp, not mine. The building inspector even gave them kudos for getting every fastener into a rafter (I almost fell over, "I guess it's ok" is usually what he considers high praise). The system they sold us has now been in flawless, uninterrupted, operation for two years and I am very satisfied and our expected payback is ahead of schedule. I would definitely use them again.

However, there is a reason why: from the very outset, Mike goes above and beyond in his work. His initial proposal was the most detailed one I received, and while it wasn't the lowest quote, I felt much more comfortable going with Pennstar Solar as a small, locally owned business with customers who were incredibly happy with the work that Mike did. There was only one hiccup that happened on install day, when the installers felt we should replace our service line before they installed, and while it was unexpected, Mike worked quickly to get quotes from other electricians to get the service line replaced, and the installers were able to come back two days later to complete the install. And now less than three months after initially requesting a quote from Pennstar, my solar system is up and running and connected to PECO, thanks to Mike!

He also installed a new outlet for an overly sensitve humidity sensor for my bathroom ventilator. It kept going on over and over again. I had to keep turning it off multiple times a day. He also cut the ends off of some shades I had ordered. They are custom made shades and I apparently gave the wrong measurements and they were too long. I had called around to different stores and no one was willing to help me unless I had bought the shades from them. I mentioned it to Vlad to see if he knew of anyone who could help me out, and he said I can try. He is an electrician, but he used his skills to really help me out. They made it clear my roof was not at the best orientation (east-west rather than north-south, in the latter case they put the panels on the south side, in the former they must put them on both sides) for solar. I did a net present value (NPV) analysis to calculate the rate of return on my investment and it comes up as borderline, lower than most of my investments but higher than some. If my roof orientation was optimum, this project would probably be a yes. If I determine that electricity prices are going to go up substantially, I may still do this. The bottom line is however that this company is very up-front and diligent in explaining the work to prospective customers.

They are very poor at servicing what they sell. Be prepared to have your system down for months…read moreawaiting repairs. Very disappointed. They will blame the manufacturer for delays when in fact the supplier has a pretty good turn around once they know of an issue which takes Tony and Sue quite awhile to report as well.
