Good ambiance and well-kept statues. Priests can be noisy with noisy phones/chatters. I was turned off by 3 things: (i) When one priest was trying to ask me lot of money on my mother's death anniversary when all I needed was a simple aatma shanti pooja, (ii) The front area Shiva Linga is not taken care of properly with bad smell emanating. The priests need to do a better job of respecting and cleaning this Shiva Linga more effectively so that there is not strong old milk odors. (iii) Super loud and annoying phone rings of Priests when devotees are trying to meditate/pray. Very distracting. After that I have not visited this place as regularly as I would like to. read more

There's an empty place in my soul where love and kindness should be. I woke up this morning and drove from Oakland to Palo Alto to meet "The Divine Mother" and get my individual blessing from her. The ceremony was supposed to start at 9am however I found out later that it actually started at 8am. Great. I get there at 10:30, take off my shoes and get a number (L). I should preface this by saying that I made a special trip to Target to get white pants as you are supposed to wear white in Amma's (Divine Mother's) presence. I took my seat at the pews with my "L" card and waited. The wait was pleasant. Even a spiritual event for me. I was sitting in the pews at the back of the church auditorium watching Amma. I was excited that I could see Amma give blessings to others. The website as well as the program said the Individual Blessings went from 9am to 1pm. Sweet, I will get my blessing in time for work! I needed to be back in Oakland for my job at 3:30pm. Breaking for lunch, we had a delectable meal. I'm not sure who made it, but it was wonderful. When we started to get back into the auditorium is when I started to get anxious. It was 12pm and they were still on the letter "F". Oy, I thought, it's almost 1pm when this thing is supposed to end. I wouldn't get my blessing! I asked a few of the crew members who were managing the event and both said everyone would get their blessing. Great. As time wore on, I realized I would have to leave for work without my blessing. I asked one of the crew members if I could quickly get my blessing as I had to go to work. She said no, only sick people could go first. I sat back down in the pew and started to get emotional. By this time, I had waited 4 hour and 15 minutes for my blessing. I had been looking forward to my blessing all week. Even more than looking forward to it, I desperately needed some healing from Amma. I left the auditorium alone and upset. Here is why the Hindu Temple gets one star. They sponsored the event. Before today, I looked at Amma's website as well as the original flier as to how long it would take to get my blessing. Amma's website and the flier were not helpful in this regard. If I had known it would take at least 6 hours to get the blessing, I could have planned accordingly and gotten there at 8am. Because I had no idea it may take that long, I wasn't able to plan accordingly. The blame lies with the sponsor. I'm also disappointed in their definition of a "sick" person. (Sick and disabled people were allowed blessings first.) The crew members recognized physical sickness but were oblivious to people in great emotional need for Amma's blessing. What if someone was on the brink of suicide but wanted some healing from Amma? I doubt this person would have made the cut. Mental illness is a sickness and should be recognized as such. I hope whomever brings Amma back to the Bay Area next time does a better job of enlightening their crew members and informing the public. read more

The Sunnyvale temple is so much like the Livermore temple and yet so different from it! Well, you spot a contradiction and so do I :) The vehicle to your religious practice or spiritual journey could be anything and that is where there is a similarity between the 2 temples- both offer a wide variety of dieties to suit the preferences of the devotees, both host all the festivals and events and allow the devotees to share their practice and receive blessings by offering prasad at the end of their prayers.Both temples are crowded during weekends and are relatively quiter during the weekdays. However, the Livermore temple is like a luxury car and the Sunnyvale temple more like an economy car. Both vehicles help you in your journey but the experience still feels different. For devotees like me it is the energy I draw from my visits to a temple that matters and it doesn't matter whether the Sunnyvale temple does not replicate the architecture of temples back in India or have enough space for all the devotees. Due to renovations, they have moved to the hall, but it doesn't actually seem any different from the earlier building. For me it is convenient to access and practice my prayers and I am happy in either temples. read more

This review is for pandit Ram Sharma, he performed my baby's mundan (Indian head shaving ceremony). He was fantastic from the word go! I had previously arranged for the ceremony to happen at Fremont Hindu temple but their coordinator completely screwed up the date/time/availability! I called Sunnyvale temple and they connected me to pt Sharma and everything was organized promptly. Main Deities such as Lord Panchamukh Ganesha (Murti was recently consecrated in 2014), Lord Venkateshwara, Lord Rama-Lakshman-Sita-Hanuman, Lord Krishna-Radha, Lord Shiva-Parvati-Shivling, Lord Muruga, Goddess Durga Devi, Lord Anjaneya, Goddess Lakshmi-Sarasvati, Sri Shirdi Sai Baba are consecrated in this temple. Key points during Festival days: - Their parking lot gets tightly packed during festival times, especially on the festive eve. Ideal time is to visit during non-peak hours i.e after 8 pm the next day of the festive eve. Or try finding a good & legal parking on the streets. - Lord Ganesh idols are collected during Ganesh Utsav for idol immersion in Sea. People can hand over their idol (after puja at home). - Be prepared for the long queue lined up for Prasad during festive times. - Women accessories stalls are opened by individual vendors. Attractions like Jhumkas, Bangles, Chains are made available. The positive energy & the inner peace I get here are immense & far beyond words. I will keep visiting. We always take the prasadam, fodd here which is of good quality and prepared with hygine. We always donate generously as our small attempt to fund & ensure the spirit of charity and community eating continues. We go quite frequently to this temple and a very peaceful feeling every time we visit. Saturday lunch is awesome.

While the temple itself is good, the priests (at least some of them) aren't great. 1. Temple does not provide receipt if you do any pooja. Their website does not list out the amount for services and they just provide a "number" when you call them on phone or if you talk to them in person. The number will vary based on the priest you talk to. Aren't they a Not for profit Organization? 2. Priest: Went and did Car pooja. Asked him how much and he said $31. At the end of the pooja he wanted more. Gave him $51 in total and was disgruntled. Asked for a receipt and got a blunt "No". Please be honest and have some integrity. If you want to run it like a Business make sure you follow ethics. Feel like bunch of robbers waiting to rob you when you enter the temple! read more

Recently I handover Idol at Sunnyvale Hindu Temple, but I felt that was not the right choice for immersion. Beware that Sunnyvale Hindu Temple's immersion program is fraud, they charged $21 with verbal commitment that they would be doing Idol immersion again on next Saturday 29th. But today when I ask them in more details, the person said there will not be any more immersion after last Saturday's 09/22 immersion, then I ask him what you would do with remaining idols, he said remaining Idols will undergo immersion in small tub locally, his tone was doubtful so with suspicion I asked him can I attend to see if you are at least doing immersion in tub? It is a matter of sacred rituals. He could not answer it right. I don't get was it worthier to donate(rather compulsory charges merely for putting your Idol there) $21 to Sunnyvale Hindu Temple trust? I bet there are other venues as well in bay area where you can donate or could be assured that it will be done in right way read more

Came here for my nephew's mundan and our pandit was super nice when my nephew was being difficult. He even called a barber for us when we couldn't do the shaving ourselves. The temple renovations have also improved the condition of temple significantly, making it a pleasant experience. Please keep making improvements and this will turn into a 5 star soon! read more

Sad that the temple community mis-advertised the Diwali Mela. The advertisement said $7 donation but we were forced to pay $7 in entry fees even though our kids were performing. To bad. Why not state "entry fee" instead? Several stall owners were also unhappy about how they were treated. read more

If you are one of the devotees who has donated to the temple but never got the receipt, you are not alone. 'Temple under construction' is the banner under which the management and some of the Pundits are running a scam. One of the fat pundits there took our donation money and served himself rather than the temple. When asked about the receipt, he got aggressive. Other Pundits are unable to help. We don't want our money back, just the receipt. But looks like it is too much to ask. I have heard lately that this scam has been going on for a long time, its nothing new. Guys, please avoid this temple. There are better temples in the area. read more

I really like this temple! You can't tell it's a temple at first but then on Diwali, I saw an entire group of Indian people walking towards the building and I thought to myself, "Yup...that's mah crew"... so I followed them. There's an area to put your shoes, then you see all the of the deities there. It was very peaceful. It's no Livermore, but it definitely does the job when you have to go to temple on Diwali and you just happen to be in the area. One of the priests was super friendly and gave me blessings. I may not be the best Hindu, but my faith drives my optimism in this game called life. read more

I have been going to this temple since 4 yrs, but today reason for writing this review is about my recent worst experience happened in this temple. I know this is related to God and I should be worried about service of temple priest, but still it did really hurt my feeling of prayers. Though I was getting the same bad experience for last 2 yrs, I still use to go to this temple as it has all the idols. But this time I went in Navratri Naumi day and had offer a chunri to Maa Durga. I asked priest to serve Maa durga with all the pooja stuff I brought alont with Chunri, he was in so much hurry he just throw it on idol, and nothing opened from my offering box and no mantras nothing. He was really rude, the experience went worst when one Priest started Aarti and stopped in between as other side in same hall other set of groups started Aarti at loud speaker. Come on if these guys cant even manage to do proper Aarti for our God, I dont believe they are really capable of handling these rituals and have no rights to hurt other ritual feelings. I thought of contacting some board members of this temple, but was not sure if that will help even. read more

The temple itself gives a lot of peace and is beautiful but the pundits are money making and entice you to do all kinds of ceremonies. The priests can be rude, greedy, disinterested and have ego problems. Surrender your life to God and not to the priests. There is nothing more powerful than praying to GOD to heal yourself. They do not give receipts for any pooja performed and they give u false promises that problems will go away but nothing happens. Priests need to have a conscience and be humble since this is such a holy place and god is watching there untrustworthiness. read more

I've seen some of the pandits scratch their feet, and give prashad without any hesitation. They stare at women too. I took my new car for pooja there. I happily gave $11 to the pandit, but he was not satisfied. He demanded for $31 as donation which he kept for himself. Also, the pandit was in a hurry to earn more cash so he skimped on pooja. The pandit I had bad experience with is fat, and somewhat bald. I wish I could post his picture here. Please stay away from that pandit. Do not take your car there for pooja. If at all you take it there please put the money the pandit demands in the donation box, and see how he reacts. I was not a happy camper. read more

This is a blend of a modern and traditional Indian temple. Apart from the regular worship that takes place, there is also a yoga class and a class for kids. It is also a place for networking as i have seen a board with updated fliers. People from all races and religion attend the yoga class and other classes and visit the temple. It is a warehouse converted into a temple and does not have the feel of a traditional Indian temple, but it does serve the purpose and most of the activities are organized by volunteers. But I would love to see it more cleaner and tidier than it is now. read more

We were here last night for our co-worker's wedding & boy does this hall have such opulence, not to mention huge; we did end up going into the temple & there were very nice people directing us to the wedding hall. The priest was very nice & explained everything in English & of course Hindi; it was so interesting seeing all the rituals from the presenting of baskets to the bride's mother to the inscents being burned, all the traditional blessings, wonderful food, & so forth. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a Hindu venu weather it be for a party or a wedding Keep up the good work guys. read more
