The receptionist was kind and warm to us. But it sort of ended there. The dental assistant was cold and more wanted to get the X-rays done and over with. My son is 3 and this was his first appointment. They could only get a few pictures and he began to cry and they seemed irritated and didn't want to push him. The doctor came in and was overall condescending, but was more patient with my son who didn't want to leave my side. Gave me 3 options for treatment, the silver diamine (which would be black and visible on his front teeth), general anesthesia to do root canal and crowns, or "leave it" and let it wreck havoc. When I said I was going to get a second opinion and find a more holistic approach, he scoffed and said "good luck with that." In an incredibly rude tone. Absolutely will not be coming back and do not recommend. read more

If I could give 10 stars, I would! Both of my kids have been going to Dr. Halls at Sunray Dental for the past 4 years, and every single visit has been exceptional. Today, my youngest walked out of their appointment and said, "Mommy, what a fun day! I love the dentist!" I mean, what kid says that?! That alone speaks volumes. Dr. Halls is truly one of a kind. He is patient, kind, gentle and incredibly knowledgeable. He just gets kids -- their fears, their energy, their questions and turns what could be a stressful experience into something fun and positive. My children adore him, and as a parent, I couldn't be more grateful. The office itself is immaculate -- crazy clean, bright, modern, and so welcoming. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with smiles and warmth. It doesn't feel like a dental office; it feels like a place your kids want to be. I highly recommend Sunray Dental to anyone looking for a pediatric dentist who goes above and beyond. I truly cannot say enough great things about this place. I'm so glad I went to Dr. Hall for a second opinion for my kids. He took the time to discuss my concerns and create a reasonable treatment plan. After that consult, my kids have been patients ever since! Dr. Hall has such great way of working with kids! He's kind and soft spoken. He tells the kids what to expect when doing treatments. This was our first time here, and unfortunately we probably won't be coming back. The receptionist was incredibly kind and made an effort to get to know my daughter, which I really appreciated. She helped make the check-in process feel warm and welcoming. However, once we were brought back, it didn't feel like there was much effort made to help my daughter feel comfortable. I had noted on the pre-appointment forms that she gets nervous at the dentist, so I was really hoping there would be extra patience and effort to build trust. Instead, it felt like there was a lack of connection, which was disappointing. I completely understand that my daughter has big emotions, I truly do, but the dentist felt kind of short with us during the visit. The appointment felt unproductive. We were only able to get two X-rays images, and nothing else was really accomplished, which made the visit feel like a waste. The recommended treatment plan went straight to general anesthesia for a tooth extraction. I expressed that I would prefer the least invasive option possible if general anesthesia wasn't absolutely necessary. The response was more along the lines of, "Okay, well, it's your decision." I'm glad there wasn't pressure or an argument, but the tone felt off. It seemed like the conversation shut down after that and ended with, "We'll see you in six months," which left me feeling unheard and discouraged. Overall, while the front office experience was positive, we left feeling disappointed and not very supported. read more

My 5 year old has been going here for all his dental appointments and still gets excited every time. It's a huge relief that he not only feels comfortable going but even looks forward to it. The staff is all very friendly and I'm always asked multiple times about any concerns or questions I may have. The office is ideal for kids -with books, coloring and toys in the waiting room, as well as tv with kids movies playing, and tokens to use to pick prizes at the end of the visit. My son needed 2 teeth pulled, and even that was a super smooth process. Dr. Hall talks my son through everything and is very patient. I highly recommend and am glad to have found an office that feels so easy to take my son to. read more

Dr. Hall is an honest man, and a straight shooter. He's all facts and gives it honest. We had a dental emergency with our son (he's 1 1/2 ) and I was a mess and worried. He was very calming, explanatory, and strong when I was panicking. He told me, this is how bad it could be but this is how bad it actually is, worst case scenario is this, but you're at this level. He was so quick and efficient, like a human AI dentist. Ive worked in the medical field and He made such an impression on me that my son is now going to be seeing him from now on. I have been putting off this review for several months now, but my experience was so frustrating that I feel it's only fair I share so that other parents in a similar situation might reconsider where they take their kiddo for dental work, or at least be very assertive in asking for/being on top of what is needed for their child's care. I do not currently have dental insurance so I put a request out in a local mom's group asking for a recommendation for a pediatric dentist that would cost under $150 out-of-pocket for a first-time exam, and specifically one that is comfortable working with preschool-aged children on the spectrum with mild sensory issues and fear. I had someone get in touch with me recommending Sunray Pediatric Dentistry assuring that they have plenty of experience and are comfortable working with children like mine, and was quoted $125 (for a child over 3 years old) for a first-time visit. I called and booked an appointment right away - I will say the front desk employee was very sweet and efficient over the phone. Despite the location being over 30 minutes from my home, it still seemed totally worth it because I had some specific concerns about my daughter's teeth and I was reassured that we would be well taken care of. After booking our appointment, I was sent a questionnaire to complete ahead of time, in which I specifically noted my biggest concern about my child's teeth. When we arrived on our appointment day I appreciated the clean, well-organized lobby, the friendly front desk staff and all the little books and toys they had out for kiddos to play with while we waited. We briefly met Dr. Hall who introduced himself to us both. Then we were brought back, where I again mentioned to the hygienist (I think?) that my daughter had fears, that this was her first "big kid" dental appointment, that they may have a hard time getting her to follow directions etc. We spent probably nearly 10 minutes in the x-ray room attempting to get my daughter to put the pieces you bite down on into her mouth to take pictures, but she was just in hysterics and flat out refusing. Dr. Hall tried some gentle encouragement but eventually said we could just skip x-rays for the time being and move on. At some point between our initial greeting in the front office and getting back to the exam chair, I brought up my #1 concern about my daughter's teeth which I had noted in the questionnaire, but wanted to make sure we addressed it in the limited time I was beginning to sense my daughter was going to allow. When we went back to the chair, my daughter was again exhibiting symptoms of fear and Dr. Hall asked whether he had my permission to take her around the corner to see their little toy machines they have and I agreed, hoping it would calm her nerves and build a rapport between the two of them. When they returned, she had calmed a little but was still having a hard time, so I was standing near the chair to help to keep her chill but when she continued to have a hard time, Dr. Hall asked that I sit in the chair in the corner so that she didn't have me to cling to. I'll be honest, it was overall a very chaotic appointment during which all that was accomplished was a little flossing, brushing and some fluoride. When Dr. Hall announced that we were all done, I asked whether he had witnessed the dental concern I had written in my questionnaire and mentioned before our appointment began. He paused, then stating that he had forgotten to take a look at it and asked whether I'd send him some clear photos to review later on, so as not to traumatize her in the chair again. While I appreciate him trying to be flexible and accommodate my daughter's feelings, I couldn't help but feel so frustrated that at the end of a stressful appointment, my #1 concern hadn't even been acknowledged or addressed. I told him that I would be happy to hold her still while he shone his light on her teeth and had a look right there, which went fine. He said it COULD be one thing, or it COULD be another, but to just continue brushing thoroughly and only time would tell if it was one scenario or the other. I paid the $125 appointment fee at the end which was a bummer considering x-rays weren't accomplished however that's not their fault, but it was definitely frustrating to feel as though I didn't even have my concern adequately addressed. I was invited to pre-book another appointment but when I found out that the out-of-pocket cost would be $334 and being worried it would be just as stressful as an appointment as this one was, I declined. I in no way write this review in an effort to "bash" Sunray Pediatric Dentistry, in fact based solely on the other Yelp and Google reviews I have no doubt they're a good practice, but please be mindful if your kiddo has any fears, sensory issues, is on the spectrum etc because this just may not be a good fit for you and your family like it was not for ours. read more

We just finished our first appointment here and we are very impressed. Everyone was so friendly and courteous and made us feel right at home. Well, as close as you can for being at the dentist! Lol From the easy appointment, and filling out the required documents online to the actual visit, everything was smooth and flawless. Parking is ok, not great. I have never had a problem finding parking but I can see it fill up on high school game days. Customer service was amazing. The dental assistant was so amazing. A mother and can relate to bringing kids to the dentist. She made us feel at ease and made this visit very pleasant. Dr. Hall was professional, easy with the tools and friendly. I cannot recommend Sunray enough, in our family we have been through many dentist who have tried to over charge and over diagnose any chance they got. We found sunray dental and from the first visit we could tell it was different, the office is so inviting and kid friendly, the staff takes the time to welcome you and explain any pricing and procedures. They made my 6 year old feel welcome and at home even when she had to come in for procedures. My 9 year old was a bit more stressed about it and they gave her time and kept reminding her of her confidence. The only thing for us is that we have to travel 45 minutes to an hour to get there but the transparency and the fact that we have found an actual honest dentist and a kind practice makes that drive 100% worth it. read more

My son had an emergency dental situation after hours on a weekend and not only did Dr Hall respond to our inquiry very quickly, he spent a lot of time helping me assess and address the situation. All of this despite not even being a current patient of his. He was very knowledgeable, kind and accessible and helped lay out a game plan for next steps. I highly recommend Sunray Pediatric Dentistry if you're looking for a dentist for your child especially a dentist that's sensitive to children with special needs. My 2 and 1/2 year old son was diagnosed with Autism Level 3 and is also non verbal and has sensory issues. He doesn't like his face being touched and brushing his teeth and is extremely difficult. I was looking for a new pediatric dentist because I felt rushed and overlooked as a patient and am so glad we came to Sunray. Dr. Danny Hall was SO nice, patient and understanding. The office is very clean and inviting. My son Enzo had a meltdown as soon as we walked in the office and I had such bad anxiety because I couldn't calm him down. When we were taken back to the exam room, we didn't have to wait long and Dr. Hall was so friendly. It's my automatic response to say "I'm sorry" or "I'm so sorry" whenever my son has a meltdown and we're in a public setting/ in front of people. The first thing I said when he came in was "I'm sorry, I've tried everything and I can't call him down." He said "Why are you saying sorry? There's nothing to be sorry about. I actually reject your apology." Hearing his words made me tear up because I'm so used to saying sorry or apologizing for my son's behavior and it's obviously not his fault because he doesn't understand what's going on and going to the doctors and pediatricians is scary for him. No one has ever "rejected" my apology wand for once I felt like I didn't have to explain or be judged. I wish more people would be as compassionate as Dr. Hall. It made me so happy and I honestly can't recommend this pediatric office enough. read more

We had an awesome experience for our 2 year old's first dental visit! With this being her first dental visit, admittedly my husband and I were more nervous than our little. The Sunray Team did an amazing job putting us at ease with their level of kindness and patience with my family. First, Shannon was very responsive and helpful when I reached out to schedule a last-minute appointment. With having a busy work schedule, I truly appreciate this! Second, I appreciate the completion ease of the e-medical forms/paperwork. It took all of 5 minutes and I was able to knock it out on my cell. Third, they saw us as soon as we checked in. No long wait. Fourth, this is a very clean, welcoming office. We didn't feel ushered in and out. Dr. Hall even took the time after to give us a tour of the office. Fifth, Dr. Hall is a rockstar! We have a strong-willed child that cooperates at her own pace. Dr. Hall didn't rush or seem irritated. He was very patient with our daughter and gave her time to get settled. What really meant a lot to us is that he wasn't pushy or judgmental. While he gave us professional advice, he didn't shame us on our parenting style and was very compassionate. At a time where we are all doing our absolute best, I truly appreciate that Dr. Hall is understanding, kind and compassionate toward his patients/parent of patients. He walked us through the process, answered all of our questions, and helped us understand expectations for future visits. We were impressed by how nice they were at our first appt but later shocked and regretted to take our daughter there. Someone mentioned earlier that they charge much more than other dental clinics for laughing gas and that's also what happened to us (55 dollars more!!) . Watch out if they push you to do some aggressive procedures too soon. You might want to have a second opinion about it. Also, ask as as many questions as you can because they are not good at walking you through what to expect on the front end, and setting expectations, also about what to watch for after the procedures. read more

I've been going to Children's Dentistry in Mira Mesa for my 2 kids for almost 5 years now. I wasn't super happy with the service and honestly I didn't pay much attention. Until I realize I haven't seen the dentist smile for a single time for whole time. And the assistance makes repetitive comments without emotion like a robot, I always have to ask one more time. Then I decided that my kids deserve a better dentist and found Sunray. Very glad that I did. The reception area looked so welcoming and looked relatively new. (I know how important/helpful that customers leave a review for a small business.) Dr. Hall was more like a teacher at school than a doctor. First he SMILED and welcomed me and my daughter (15-yr-old). Then he answered all my questioned. After he examined her he came out to me and explained. No rush, no nervousness. You know the feeling, you want to ask another question but you get the feeling that doctor has to run for the next patient and you can't. I didn't feel any of this there. Lastly my daughter said he did the job very gently and quietly, so she didn't feel as scary/uncomfortable as the previous dentist. I'm glad she liked. She goes to West View so she can walk after school! I scheduled a cleaning for both my kids in Aug. Highly recommend. p.s. Dr. Hall, please get more chairs in the reception. Dr. Hall and his staff are amazing! I love how this office utilizes techniques that help build confidence in my child and their decision to seek dental treatment. Dr. Hall ensured the safety of my child while in treatment by allowing her to "be in charge." She was terrified her first visit, rightfully so considering the reason for the visit was due to her tooth hurting. She is only four, and she doesn't quite understand what is going on fully, and kids all associate scrubs with needles.. the staff was kind and gentle, guiding her through each step and why it was necessary. They answered all her questions in a way that she could understand that what she was doing was the best decision for her dental health. They allowed her to make the decision to "stop or take a break" by raising her hand, then they would address the cause of her problem and boost her with reassurance that everything was OK. This office gives my daughter the tools she needs to be able to overcome her fears of dental treatment and make the best decision for her dental health that will continue on in her life well into her adult years! This fact here is priceless and can not be found at many pediatric dental offices. I highly recommend this office and staff. They are phenomenal, and words can't express my gratitude. read more
