During the main school day, there are 2 teachers and 16 children, fantastic ratio for children of this age. She has established process and discipline with the children, but does so in such a loving and consistent way. For instance, children are expected to clean up (and once properly instructed) held to a high standard to complete the task. When my children put their minds to something, there is very little they can't do. I've had to learn this just as much as my children. I love the songs my children come home singing. The map of Europe my daughter punched out from construction paper and assembled correctly blew me away. When you visit, notice how calm and focused 16 3 to 5 year olds can be when given this consistent direction, proper instruction and calm, effective redirection. When staying for the full day, older children who have aged out of nap time get additional instruction in "challenging work", which includes language, math and social studies. Sleeping arrangement for younger children is in a separated room on sleeping mats and is kept quiet. Wow, check out the outdoor space! It's an unexpected oasis, and lots of time is spent out there in the nice weather. Doris keeps in touch with a blog and emails after hours when there is something I need to know about my children, either good or bad. It's kinda nice to hear the good parts. The facility is a single family home near Lake Grove used exclusively for the school. It's clean and well maintained and set up for kids to thrive. The school is off for the month of August and all Lake Oswego SD holidays. As both parents in our family work full time, we had to scramble, but for the 2 Augusts for which we have participated, the change in schedule has ended up being a welcome change of pace. Price per quality is wonderful when compared to other Montessori options in the Lake Oswego area. Strong Recommend.

During our tour, the…read moreOWNER hyped up the many services the school offered - & after filling out required enrollment forms, we were absolutely misled from the information from the tour to actually being enrolled. No lunch meal was provided to my son, the sudden change of operation hours, & my son (2 y/o) engaging with older kids that was not his age group all because of due to low enrollment. If that is the case, then a lowered tuition fee would have been reasonable if they can't meet their promising services to families. Attempted too many times contacting the OWNER & DIRECTOR of these concerns and they have both been UNRESPONSIVE - it would take days, if not weeks & follow ups to get their attention. All to say, proceed with caution - the OWNER, Deanna & DIRECTOR, Brittney are very passive AND experts at ghosting when it comes to conflicts and/or resolving issues - at least in our experience. Tip for parents CONSIDERING this daycare: their policy is really vague and their parent handbook policy is covered with "we can change our policy at any given time" so be aware that they can quickly change whatever they need to do in their favor to which can leave parents like us really unhappy with the steep tuition they require.. if I can leave 0 stars, I would.

Unfortunately, due to the mass staff exodus the Pre-K program was cut with little notice and we were left with no child care for this entire summer. From Jan-May of this year we had numerous late night emails asking us to not bring our infant in for class, making it very difficult for my husband to work and for me to see scheduled patients. From my perspective, this is a salary issue. Employees at Cadence are potentially not being paid enough and are leaving for other jobs. Teacher Nancy, Chelsea, Zita and Liz, dozens of our kids miss you and will forever be grateful to you for sticking it out as long as you could. The food is another aspect that needs to be addressed immediately. I hope they are no longer serving bowls of corn (as seen in my child's photo on google review) or the ever popular "vegan meat balls" that the kids would frown at, weekly. I want to say Thank you to Teacher Mia and Vicki who made us stay as long as we did and who you should feel confident leaving your children with. Cadence, we have filled out plenty of surveys with the same info, please feel free to reach out to myself of my husband with helpful feedback.

HORRIBLE! I would not trust this daycare center for my child or anyone else's child. Go somewhere…read morethat truly cares about providing high quality personalized childcare to your child. I couldn't help but feel like the childcare staff did not know or did not care about what they were doing. Child hated it and we hated it. There were signs that the child was neglected in various ways. At pickup, child's nose was often crusty from crying and almost never wiped clean. Child's mouth was also not cleaned and frequently dirty from food; this caused a long-term rash\skin irritation\dermatitis around child's mouth. There were times the child's bottom was really red from harsh scrubbing; this indicates that a fecal diaper had dried and crusted after a long period of time of not being changed and they were scrubbing aggressively to get fecal matter off. Child did not seem to be happy in any picture provided. Child strongly indicated that they did not want to be there before and after every single day. After that daycare, child was constantly frightened of other kids being nearby. While attending, child had frequent night terrors and would not sleep well at night. Seems to be quantity over quality at this daycare. Choose anywhere else to care for your precious child! They will frequently state that the child 'ate all' of a meal or snack, but I have a difficult time believing that that is true. Our child does not 'eat all'. Also, I once received an update that the child 'ate all' of a snack, then walked in, and the snack was sitting untouched in front of the child. I took the snack home and took a picture of it. With every interaction, you get this awful sense that the bubbly Director will say anything to trick you into believing everything is wonderful or that she will take care of your issues. Director will say "Your child is doing well and/or child is bonding with so and so", but it is presumably to placate the parent. Repeatedly said they provide 2-6 pictures per day of your child - only one picture of child provided in the first week. ~5 pictures were provided over the next two weeks. The 2-6 pictures of child per day were not provided, even after complaining repeatedly. I am fairly certain other pictures were taken of child in the first week, but they were likely deleted and not shown to us. The app they use is complete trash - KidReports app has a 2.0 of 5.0 rating on Google Play. Did they use this horribly rated app because it was the cheapest option? Didn't have access to app for five days, even after complaining every day - it was not important for the parents to know anything about their child in the first week apparently. There was practically zero personalized communication about child well-being in the first week. We canceled after the first week, but they lock you into two additional weeks with their contract. They do not even ask why you are leaving. It does not seem to be important for them to improve what is wrong. Childcare staff rotate constantly - I saw someone different in the room frequently. The daycare staff rarely tried to make me and the child feel welcome; often, I would not know how to hand off my distraught child. They hired four new people at roughly the same time - probably a sign of staffing issues. One of the staff they hired is 20 years old; they do not seem professionally experienced. While the director was seemingly out, I overheard daycare admin staff telling the children caregivers what to do, and how to wake up the children from nap. This seriously confused me. Shouldn't the children caregivers know what to do? Are the caregivers that inexperienced/inept? Are your children truly in good hands behind closed doors? That same day, I picked up at 3:50 pm; as far as I could tell, the child did not have an afternoon snack by that time. Due to many reasons, I do not trust leaving my child or any other child in this place. Who knows what actually occurs here. I will never bring my child to another daycare center after this nightmare!

Pros: When we first…read morejoined Maryam's Preschool, Maryam was delightfully enthusiastic about her pupils. She is very knowledgeable about her field and she knows and respects state laws and regulations. She LOVES kids and that's very clear. Maryam is a fantastic cook! She feeds the kids often (many snacks if needed) -- and even shares her delicious meals with parents at times. The set up in the house is safe and magical. The music room is so cool. Maryam is very helpful with advice and is willing to help parents potty train. She knows many parenting tricks and tips with sicknesses. Our kid felt safe there. Cons: Definitions to consider: "Day-care, also called day nursery, nursery school; an institution that provides supervision and care of infants and young children during the daytime particularly so that their parents can hold jobs... Preschool programs are more learning-oriented and are often based on a certain approach to teaching with structure." The word preschool in "Maryam's Preschool" is misleading. In consideration of definitions between the two - it feels like a daycare. There isn't a curriculum. In a year we never received one completed project or anything other than daily coloring/drawings on copy paper. They spend most of the day playing, coloring, or watching TV (more on that below). This could be considered free play or child-lead learning; regardless, I think parents should know that there's no structured preparation for kindergarten. They do read to the kids and work on alphabet and counting and we heard some vague details on teaching math. Or at least it wasn't communicated to me that there was organized structure. Lastly, my issue that influenced only two stars and ultimately our decision to leave Maryam's Preschool: the kids watch movies and/or TV frequently and when we inquired about it, Maryam denied that only to change her story later. When our child came home quoting a movie (saying the word "Stupidhead," I asked where did you hear that word? Our child's response was "from Lilo-Stitch movie at Maryam's." I googled the movie since we've never seen it to find out yes, that word is in the movie). When we inquired, Maryam responded with: "No, we NEVER watch movies or TV" emphasizing NEVER and implied it was our child's imagination. We gave the benefit of the doubt and thought maybe our kid had heard it from another child--as they often do. A couple of weeks later at pick up, while assisting my child with shoes, another child came up to Maryam tapping her on the shoulder and said, "Maryam, the movie is over now" and she shushed him away. The next day I requested an explanation and she told us that actually yes, they watch 15 minute "educational videos" *ONLY* "about counting and the alphabet" but do NOT watch movies, EVER. I asked her if she would inform me of any time that they watched TV so I could know what content they were watching. I never heard from her on the subject again. We allow scheduled and monitored screen time with our kids at home and are very attentive to what they are watching. We certainly do not have access to or own the following movies that my child said they watched "almost everyday" at Maryam's. We didn't prompt our kid or lead them in questioning, simply "did you watch any TV today?" Usually the answer was, yes. We followed with, "What did you watch?" And left it at that. Just in the last month of care she shared that she watched: Tom and Jerry, Toy Story, Mickey's Clubhouse, Land Before Time (and said they watched this one "many times" and can recite all the characters names), Shrek, and Lilo and Stitch. And those are just the titles that our child recalled and name clearly. Often times, our kid said yes they watched a movie/tv but didn't know the name of what they watched or would just describe the show. Again, we don't own ANY of those movies or let our kid watch anything when we're not present. We also don't have family in the area so it's impossible that our child was exposed to these shows elsewhere. The denial made us uncomfortable with the changed story after the other child's comment-- and that was our main concern-- changing of answers and lack of transparency. What else was going on that we don't know? We'd prefer honesty and likely would overlook occasional movies but altering answers and placing blame on a child's imagination we did not accept. I don't know of any preschools that rely on movies with little educational value to entertain and keep children busy, regularly. For the price we expect more from a care provider--daycare, preschool, or otherwise. There were other things that irked us that seem minor in comparison: telling our child they are "fragile" when crying. That said, differences in opinion on how to raise/talk to children certainly will happen in any institution and we understand that. However, overall, I think there are better options and rates out there for preschools with a curriculum as well.
