I found some rarities and did not leave empty handed. Despite being called "curmudgeon" the staff were friendly and helpful. Also, did I mention the poster collection? From classic rock to modern acts, the poster selection is pretty epic. Serious music fans need to check this place out.

I am truly overwhelmed by the selection of music, and not just rock. There are substantial sections for blues, jazz, punk, folk, and more. I walked in to browse and walked out with an armful of CDs. The staff are friendly, and there is a 30-day exchange policy (with receipt) if anything is defective. I have a feeling this may become a regular stop for me.

Revolver had a used DVD section and LOADS of Disney - Hurrah! I found Aladdin door $20 and went to but right away. I did t have time to look around but I know if I was with my husband we'd have been in there for hours. They have a large vinyl collection, band shirts and music swag. Server was great and cleaned the DVD before I got it. Had some chitchat about this Disney vault being a real thing. Then went in my merry way. Can't wait to watch Aladdin now.

This HMV is alright. I personally don't like it because it is a stand alone and not part of any…read moremall. Usually when I check out an HMV it will be when I am passing by it in a shopping mall and then I will find something I like. This one just seems like an inconvenience. Like most HMV's they have a huge selection but the staff at this one doesn't really help much if you need it. They usually have alright deals because they are trying to keep up with the internet but most of the time you will find a much better deal buying music or movies on the internet.

I will occasionally go in to look around and see if I can find any good deals but I almost always walk out empty handed. The staff are never really happy to help you out. It feels as though they are there just to listen to music and get paid to do it. I hate to say it but I have never had good customer service at any HMV. I also don' t know how long they will be around for. It seems to me that people don't buy a lot of music in hard copy anymore. IF people aren't downloading, they are buying from iTunes (like me) because it is always cheaper. Then I can burn it onto a CD if I want. If you do want your music in hard copy, HMV does have a lot to choose from. All their music is divided by genre to make things easy (for you and the staff). But if you are on a budget, I would look elsewhere - maybe Walmart or somewhere like that.

I am a fan of this book store…read more I am old school and buy books to read. I just have a thing about holding a book and reading it vs online or on a tablet. They have more than just books. They've got games, toys, and tonnes of other items to browse. There's also a Starbucks if you want to buy and coffee and book and sit and read for a bit. My niece and I checked it out for her spring break as they had a week of kids activities. It was super cool... and I learned about new toys that are on the market that I was in the dark about. The event started off with an employee reading a book t all of the kids before they went to the different stations. The different stations for the kids were coloring, play games, and having an interactive experience. Indigo head office also provided grab bags for the first 50 kids or so through the door and we were lucky enough to show up on time and my niece got one. The rest of the store is very similar to the old HMV that used to be here, but more poorly organized. In the sections I looks at, DVDs were front-faced, (cover facing forward,) but with different titles tucked in behind because they don't have large quantities of each one. Other sections may not be like that, but honestly, I got tired I having to pick up stacks of DVDs to look for things. They seem to have added more t-shirts and discount movies since I was last there, but it looks like an HMV rehash.

The staff is super helpful and will provide recommendations based on your purchases and questions. Blackbyrd's prices are much better then other stores in Edmonton for the same items (believe me, I comparison shop all the time). Not to mention the time I went there on a Sunday and the guy was hung over and disinterested in actually being there. My daughter and I were discussing how there is a snobby air whenever we walk in.. sorry I don't have a man bun, and pronounce things the way he does, excuse me all to heck. If you don't mind feeling like a foreigner, getting corrected on your pronunciation and getting lectured on your taste.. do go here.
