This theater refused entry to us because our 13-month-old wasn't wearing a mask. The CDC emphasizes that children under the age of 2 SHOULD NOT wear a mask. When I explained this to the woman, she said "yes I know that, but we have our own rules." Even so, I will never support a place that puts children under the age of 2 of danger of not being able to breathe properly and communicate that danger to their parent. I do not recommend this theater. read more

This is a Southern Pines cultural gem. Great location downtown that adds to the charm of the city. Enjoy beer and wine with your movie. Great prices on concessions. There is only one screen in the theatre with somewhere around 200 seats including the balcony. They offer a "classic movie" on many Wednesdays, and another movie the most of the rest of the week. Movies start at 7:30PM, though I think they have an additional afternoon showing on Saturdays and Sundays. The theatre is usually dark on Tuesdays. The building has a stage and is available to rent. It is a nice performance venue and a charming place to see a movie. They also stream the Metropolitan Opera on occasion. read more

I came here on a Saturday night to watch Murder on the Orient Express and was quite impressed with the homey and warm atmosphere this theater has achieved. First of all, the theater is unlike most in that it is just so clean and well maintained. Second, you can enjoy alcoholic beverages while you watch your film! Third, they serve fresh popcorn with butter and fourth, the tickets were only $8 a piece! Although they don't offer a wide selection of movies at one time, the appeal is that they don't play what's currently in theaters. They play classics or indies or musicals, and even concerts. Next time, I'll definitely take advantage of their options- perhaps an opera, or a musical! I definitely recommend to anyone looking for something low key to do on a Saturday night. Oh, but as a recommendation, definitely come early to claim your seat! My beau and I arrived ten minutes prior to the start of the movie and it was already PACKED. read more

This is the best theater in town! Popcorn is always made SAME DAY unlike the big theater across town. The Sunrise shows many great FILMS, this is not the place to see Transformers 6 or Fast and Furious 27, but you will frequently find many Sundance and Cannes films, indy films, and even a classic every now and then. Also, like Vincent talks about in Pulp Fiction, you can get a BEER to enjoy while you watch the film. Sunrise is also the premier Sandhills location for live music. The theater hosts 4-6 concerts each year including being the home base of the Blues Crawl every July, and also the theater is the epicenter for the family friendly and free-admission First Friday concerts May-October each year. AND Sunrise also boasts HD broadcasts of the NY Metropolitan Opera, and maybe the London opera as well. A well rounded venue for entertainment, this place is hard to beat, and in my opinion, THE best one-stop shop for entertainment of all kinds. After your film/concert/opera, take a walk around town to enjoy one of the great locally owned restaurants. read more
