We love the Badin drive in . We arrived early to beat the crowd . Thankfully we found a great spot . The highlight of course is the food ! Though its simple diner / dive bar type of food, everything was yummy. Someone called out so they were short staffed but it was worth the wait . We tried just about everything . Highlight being the wings and corn fritters ! You can't find corn fritters everywhere . We'll definitely revisit this drive in verses the other local drive in . Only complaint being the bathroom . They didn't start the movie until around 9:30pm because they were packing cars in so tight that you were fighting for space to see the screen. The staff was pretty rude and the bathrooms were rough. They have 1 guy working the ticket booth, he is very nice but that isn't very efficient so you can expect to spend 40 or so minutes in line. We were really hoping this would be our new go to drive-in but we will head the other way to Belmont. read more

I wanted this to be a great evening out. Drive an hour to get to the drive in, only to leave before the movie was 1/4 of the way through. First, the restrooms are disgusting and have likely not been properly cleaned in a very long time. Second, the movie was not even watchable. It was so dark, you could barely see anything. We spoke to the people at the projector booth who told us the bulb was bad and there was nothing they could do about it. At that we left and will likely not return again. I haven't been to a drive-in theater since the 70s, so I was super excited to come to this one last night for a Yelp event. My son, who is 18, has never been to a drive-in and I thought it would be a great way to get him out of the house. He's basically been in quarantine since March, and this was the longest he's been out of our home since at one time. Although I've seen the movies "Black Panther" and "Creed" countless times, I really was excited to see it in this format. Upon our arrival, everyone was just NICE! It made our experience even better considering the drive there. We were given a little snack box with water, popcorn, and cookies, which was a nice touch. I look forward to coming here again, but coming from the University area, the 30 mile drive down the long stretch from the 485 Albemarle exit left something to be desired. I'm hoping to find a more comfortable route for future visits. read more

This was my first drive in movie theater and it reminded me of Grease. I was super excited to go and it was a perfect date/family place because you are literally social distancing away from everyone else. You can purchase drinks and food at the concession stands however you can easily bring food and it could become a picnic in your car OR you can bring chairs to sit outside and eat there. I saw lots of people even bringing blankets and pillows. I don't like bugs so I just stayed inside the car which was perfect because it had AC. There are restrooms available and parking lots that are separated by stakes. Gates open at 6:30 pm and the movies don't start until suns out. I believe I got there around 6:45 and there were a lot of spots still available until maybe 7:30. The movie did not start until 9. It was bedtime by the time the first movie was done so unfortunately I was not able to watch the second one which was Black Panthers. Oh and the sound is clear! You can either rent a radio or listen to the movie on the radio station. TLDR: $7 per person, bring food/drink, blankets, rent radio/use car radio, chairs, four movie choices (two screens; movie plays back to back), come early to get a good spot read more

Two movies for $7/person. That's an awesome deal. The picture quality isn't as good as a theatre but it's still worth it, especially if you're Covid cautious right now. Love this place! It's so nostalgic. The staff are always kind & super helpful. The food is on point (order the wings *crispy*) and the restrooms are nice & clean. First time here and I believe the first weekend opening for the season. I really thought it was going to be bananas due to so many people wanting to get 'out' because of the pandemic and it's Fathers Day weekend. Lots of limitations on outings. But it wasn't bananas. We arrived at 6:30. I thought that was when the gates opened but looks like they were already open. When I let the guy at the ticket stand that you drive thru know I hadn't been before he was happy to explain in detail what to expect. There are two screens and you have to choose which screen you're watching movies from because you can't move your car between the first and second movie. We brought snacks but the concession stand food was VERY reasonable. However my husband didn't care for the burger. The kids liked the chili cheese fries and funnel fries. Restrooms were surprisingly clean (wasn't expecting much) and because we were early we were able to get a spot close to the restrooms and concession stand. Parking spots are separated by stakes. Some hung in their car, in chairs outside of their car, or in the back of their trucks or suvs. Easy to social distance. Movie started about 9. We left before the end of the last movie, a little after 1am. This may very well be our new family outing on weekends this summer. read more

Sooooooo happy I tried this place out. I haven't been to a drive in movie theater in decades!! Literally. I mean I was 12 the last time I went s. And I'm ...yeah well moving on. I'm going to get straight to the point. It's $7 per person and they have double features every Friday Saturday and Sunday. Movies start at dark. Movies are current. We saw Dispecable Me 3 and Transformers Last Knight. (I'll have to rent that again..I fell asleep) concession stand and prices are soooooo cheap! I got a really good hamburger for only $3.50!?!? People and workers are SO nice. You can bring a picnic or outside food. And you can bring your dog!! Ours LOVED it...all the smells, people and head scratches! Word of SERIOUS advice: get there at 6:15 to snag a good spot. Tickets start selling around that time. Bring a radio that will allow you to hear the movie. We had a feeling that our car would die....and it did...along with two other people. We had to get a jump. So bring jumper cables just in case! We wanted the surround sound. We should have turned the car on and left it running off and on throughout the night. And last...it's an hour away from charlotte. We got home at 3:00am!! Whew! Although we had to drive 1 1/2 hours to come to the drive in, I did enjoy it. A double feature for 2 adults and 2 children, $14!!! Info you need to know- do not drive around with your headlights on it it RUDE once the movie had started They only take CASH, but there is a ATM located inside the concession stand. you should bring a small flashlight inorder to walk around, sometimes the moon light is not enough. reccomend bringing a small radio, since most newer cars (like ours) the radio cuts off after a certain amount of time and "restarting" it can turn on the headlights (sorry people in front of us). You cant switch spots during the movies, but there is nothing that says you cant turn around inside your vehicle or move your chair from the front to the back in order to watch a different movie. NOW as far as the food is concerned, it took over 30 minutes to receive our order of wings, 2 burgers, tenders, 3 fries and drinks! and it was over $30! so if its just 2 of you, the prices are fair etc for a couple items, but if you are bringing the famly................ hit the bojangles on your way in and bring a cooler of sodas etc. then get your popcorn at the movies. Food was just ok, the grease they fried the wings in needed changing, you could smell and taste the old in it. the ranch dressing they give you was gross. the nachos were not good either, the cheese was very thin and plastic tasting and the chips were not fresh, also they pour the cheese on the chips which of course makes the chips then soggy- eww. Anyway this is a great bargain for the price in any event. Get there early, set up and enjoy the time with the family! make it a picnic and just have a great time. We sure did read more

This place here was one of my best memories of iving in the Charlotte area.... My wife and I used to go here with our then 3 year old... Back in 98-99, it cost $6 buck per carload... You'd get two movies and a bingo game... Great atmosphere, and this dude always had the current movies as soon as they came out... From what I remember, it was nothing more than a grass field with a huge screen, you tuned the sound into your radio, and it everything at the concession stand was no more than a buck or two..... Definitely a good place to go for a good night out... especially if you didn't make any plans for the evening... read more

I attended Badin Road Drive-in on a Wednesday night for their special collaboration with Michael B Jordan. This was my first true drive-in experience and I'm glad I chose this establishment! They're located in Abearmale is its quite a drive from Charlotte but they were screening two movies so it was worth the drive! When we arrived we were instructed to drive around to check in. The attendants at check-in were very nice and gave us gift boxes! The boxes included water, gourmet popcorn, cookies, and a thank you note. Once you check in you're instructed to drive around and select a car space. They have plenty of parking but the best spots are first come, first serve so get there early! We were able to get a spot right in the front and had time to get settled before the movie. The venue has bathrooms, a playground area for kids, and a concession stand that offers food and snacks. The drive-in is very family friendly and there were many groups of all ages. We had grabbed some food before coming so we didn't get a chance to use the concession stand. I did however use the bathroom and I must say...they're like campground bathrooms so don't expect much. When the movie starts you set your car radio on a certain station so you can control the volume from your car. The screen is very large so if you're in the back you can still see the movie! After the first screening they give you about a 15 minute interlude in between just in case you need a bathroom break or decide to leave. I decided to leave after the first movie but still enjoyed every minute there. Glad I got to experience Badin Road Drive-In! I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for some social distancing fun! read more

We had our first drive-in movie experience here a couple of weeks ago. The double feature is nice but we only made it through the first one. A 9pm start time means a late night with two kiddos. So awesome to lay in the back of the truck with blankets under the stars watching a movie. Pros: Clean parking lot, great pricing, food and drink concessions, playground for kiddos, clean and well-stocked bathrooms Cons: 20+ minute wait for food at concessions. Multiple people sitting at picnic tables for long periods of time waiting on simple food. Disorganized concessions staff. Slide on playset was broken and barely attached. It's definitely a safety hazard. read more

This place rocks! I grew up going to drive-ins so I've always had a soft spot for drive-ins. Unfortunately, the typical ones I've been to since I was a kid are trashy, poor screens, poor audio, etc. This place is none of those. Two good screens showing first run movies, good audio, lots of decent parking, great concession stand. Totally deserves 5 stars. I just hope they can keep it going with today's customers. Love this place and I will be back. I took my Girlfriend here for date night and it was the best romantic date ever. We stopped and picked up some food from our favorite resturant before we came even though they have a their own concession stand with movie favorites such as popcorn, candy, hot dogs, etc., so outside food and drinks are ok. The price is right at $7 per adult for new reacently released movies. This so beats the AMC or Regal theaters if you're on a budget and it much more romantic for the guys to win brownie points with their SO. Yeah it's a drive, but it's worth it. read more

Badin Road Drive In lies 45 minutes outside of Charlotte. It's an easy trip and it places you at a majestic dual screened gravel park where you can select which movie to face. One side has a basketball court and a playground that kids can enjoy before the pictures begin. A couple other noteworthy features: * $5 per adult gets you two movies back to back starting at dark. * Open Friday thru Sunday * Once you are in you can't switch spots or leave and come back without a fee * You can bring your own food. Alcoholic drinks are allowed as long as they stay inside your car * Full clear sky of stars * Clean bathrooms * get there early if you want a prime spot. It was pretty full by 8:00 pm on a Friday. The movie didn't start til 9 (or dark) * Bring a radio so you don't have to leave your car radio on through the event. The price when I went was $6 per person in the car. Super cheap. Did the double feature totally worth it (on the weekend). All you need is one scoop of ice cream they give out big scoops! Quality of the screen was AMAZING - as a photographer I'm super picky about stuff like that. I thought it wouldn't fill the whole screen - it did! If you're worried about the audio, it all depends on the system in your vehicle. (This was my first time to experience the drive in). What was really cool they have one screen playing a kids movie and one screen playing the feature of the night. So a really nice set up for families. Enjoy it! read more

Badin Rd Drive In, Albemarle NC Review August 2014 Pros and Cons PROS *First and foremost: Friendly staff *Nice playground and grass area for kids of all ages. *Digital quality movies *Easily heard reception on radio. *Usually nice crowd. *Good food at concessions and ice cream milk shakes in a variety of flavors. *Entertaining announcements and story's over the intercom during intermission. *Allows movie goers to bring in their own food. *Hands out rules and garbage bags when entering. *2 Screens with 2 movies playing on each CONS *Does not enforce their own rule of pick up trucks, SUV's and minivans to park in back or on sides. These type of vehicles usually park front or second row and center. Making it hard for those in cars or sitting in front of vehicles to view the entire screen. *Consistently speaks over the movie to let individuals know to pick up their pizza. *Speaks over the beginning of the second movie to announce that the snack bar is closing and to get your orders in. *Starts movie much later than dark. Usually a full half hour after complete darkness. *Intermission is very long, sometimes a full half hour waiting to start one movie so both movies will end at the same time. *Lines at concession are so long they back up down two rows towards the screen from the booth, so get your food and milk shakes early. *Will ask vehicles to move over when movie should have started so they can get more cars in but does not move the large vehicles from the front rows or enforce tie downs on hatches. (both their rules) *Big drainage ditch children fall into when accidently running or playing too close to it while playing. Needs barriers for safety. *Of no fault of the drive in: Vehicles riding past on main road honk as they go by. Loud vehicles rev their engines or speed as they head up and down the side road which runs right next to the parked cars. Again this is no fault of the owners, just inconsiderate people. Would like to Recommend to Owners: *Add a barrier for safety of children on playground. *Paint parking lines with grass paint to be sure everyone will park exactly where you want them too, maximizing space for more cars to increase your profits and eliminating the need to move cars towards 9pm. *Enforce your large vehicle rule. *Make people wait for their pizzas instead of interrupting the movie Recommendation to movie goers.... Would recommend a visit to this drive in. Compared to others, it is very clean and affordable even with the per person admission price. The quality of the film because of the digital projector is far superior than before. I give 3 stars only because the cons are about just as long a list as the pros, but this by no means you should not visit this drive in. Great fun indeed! I'm a sucker for old school things to do and drive-in's are exactly that. Bring a truck, back it up and unleash the blankets and folding chairs and viola! This particular location charges by headcount and NOT just a general price per car which is how it used to be done. They do allow you to bring your own food and beer but discourage the food being brought in because that is how they make most of their money is off the food sales. The bathrooms are decent (for men) but be warned it's much like campground bathrooms, no nice amenities will be found here. The movie selections are normally the new releases and the screens are ample size to see from basically anywhere on the lot. Instead of using the radios that clip on the windows they broadcast the sound across FM stations for you to tune into. I recommend bringing a small radio so that you don't drain your cars battery during the movie. read more

There is usually a kids movie first and he's asleep by the time the second movie rolls around. We go every weekend, great food at the concession stand, without the crazy movie theatre prices. I had never been to a drive-in theatre, so when we saw one on the road today we decided to visit for the evening show. Tonight's double feature was Jurassic Park and Jaws. Not two of my favorite films, but a great experience nonetheless. The snack stand offers a wide array of refreshments at unbeatable prices, which, also worth mentioning, admission is only $7 for adults! $7 for two movies is a steal! The theatre also offers portable radio rentals for $2, so that you don't have to worry about draining your car battery during the film. You will need to leave your driver's license as collateral for the radio. I think they have an opportunity to make much more money by selling inexpensive portable radios rather than renting them, as the rentals available have antennas missing and broken buttons. Besides this small detail, it was an unforgettable first visit to the drive-in, and I can't wait to visit again next time I'm in the area. Thanks! read more

What a great experience from start to end.The young man at the ticket booth was very friendly, answered all my questions, as this was our first time. The prices for a double feature $7 for adults and $5 for children can't complain at all! The young men at the concession stand were very friendly and helpful too. Instead of killing your battery you can rent a radio for $2 and hold on driver license if you didn't bring your own. The prices of food was decent but we brought our own. Bathrooms stayed clean & well stocked. While we waited for dusk (movie start time) kids played tag, football, and on the playground they have. We will be going back it's a great time out! read more
