We had not been to the Sunrise before, but saw Tesla was going to play and we were all in! The theater is lovely, with recent renovations included carpeting to match the original carpeting. There is a bar to the right when you enter, and a smaller bar upstairs. The restrooms were clean and nicely maintained. The theater seating is comfortable and nice views from every seat. The show was great, although the sound system was just ok. I think they could use an upgrade there, but I overall it was a great experience. We love smaller venues, especially with such wonderful history. The staff was also very friendly and were happy to provide details about the theater's history. Hopefully they will fix the lighted letters on the building! I would recommend this theater, it was a wonderful experience.

This Sunrise Theatre also known as the Sunrise Building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 7, 2001. The theater was designed in 1922 by architect John N. Sherwood in the Mediterranean Revival style and it was built by C.A. Cahow. It opened its doors on August 1, 1923 as the largest theater on Florida's East Coast between Jacksonville and Miami. Unfortunately downtown began a decline in the 1980's that affected a lot of south Florida and the theater was forced to close on September 8, 1983. In 1988 Main Street Fort Pierce was created which focused on preserving the character of the historic downtown area. The historical importance of the Sunrise Theatre was recognized and they set about saving the building. The St. Lucie Preservation Association, Inc. purchased the theater and renovated it at a cost of 13 million dollars paid with city, county, and state funds. It reopened on January 6, 2006. The City of Fort Pierce now operates the theater and it has modern light and sound systems. The main stage theater seats 1,200 people. There is also the more intimate 220 seat Black Box theater that hosts regional and local acts. The Black Box theater is home to the Ft Pierce Jazz and Blues Society's Jazz Jams and the "The Comedy Corner" which brings comedians. The venue attracts world famous entertainment. National touring Broadway shows, musical and comedy acts, ballet and opera companies with full orchestras, country stars and classic rock musicians are some of the kinds of entertainment that play here. Upcoming performances include Clint Black, Tony Bennett, One Night of Queen, Beauty and the Beast, and the Little Mermaid. They offer a wide variety of performances that appeal people who enjoy music and comedy shows as well as families and theater goers. I love how they have embraced the history of the building while offering the kind of shows people today love. This historic theater is a gem in a restored downtown Ft. Pierce.

I'm surprised there aren't any reviews about this theater. It is the smallest I have seen by far in South Florida and the seats are most certainly cozy but this evening, my boyfriend and I attended for the Kodo Drumming performance. We really enjoyed the performance and loved to see the talented and well-fit drummers play and share with us a part of their Japanese culture. The theater decoration and staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The majority of the crowd were the elderly and adults. All of the performances performed by the Kodo drummers were astonishing outstanding. My favorite one was when the ladies dressed in black and red kimonos walked out playing the flutes and drummed with the guys. The costumes they wore were really flashy and blended in with the play. My other favorite, and my opinion is biased because, the guys that walked out in the white thongs (not sure what they are really called) and every muscle of their buttocks was profound when they were banging the large Shuriken drum. That was amazing for a woman's eyes, haha! Other than that, I just want to share some theater etiquette since there were many in the crowd who were not aware and it really surprised me that they did not know how to properly act in a theater during a performance. I know, our excuse is not to blame ourselves but the host right? Well, let me just say, we shouldn't always expect the host to tell us, what are we? 7 years old and can't figure things out through the advanced technology that's provided to us, called the Internet? Okay, it's really simple. 1) Cellphones off. Literally turn them off! It is called respect. You can live without your phone until the intermission or after the performance is completely finished (the performance lasted 2 hours with a 20 minute intermission). 2) Call a babysitter. Do not pay $50 for your ticket and be an upset pickle towards everyone around you because you made the choice to bring your crying toddler to the performance and now you need to leave with your baby because s/he won't shut up. 3) Applaud when the performance has been completely finished not during. The whistling and shout outs are horribly rude too. They are as much of a distraction as the cellphones ringing during the show. 4) No video, photography or flash of any kind. Also disrespectful. People choose to ignore the signs and when the host insisted the prohibition of videos and photography during the performance. The Kodo drummers worked their butts off to make a showing so be considerate and respectful at least and put your camera phones away. I may have missed some more theater etiquette factors but these were the ones that happened during the Kodo performance. I am a spoiled young one since I came from a place where all the old people knew the theater etiquette and that is actually who taught me about theater etiquette too so coming to another town where old people don't know theater etiquette is a big shock to me.

Great venue with easy access. Lots of good restaurants in the area for a bite before a show. And there's free parking close by.

It is definitely one of our go to spots and has some amazing bartenders that are able to handle large crowds without anyone feeling as though they're not getting the attention they deserve! Tipsy Tiki is like having Key West right here in Fort Pierce. Prices are super fair and weekday. Happy hours are always nice. They do not serve/sell food, but the Funky Cuda is right next-door for an amazing smash burger and on weekends there is always a food truck available in the parking lot. It's a variety every weekend so you never know what is going to be available... take your chances or just die before you arrive! Please take care of your fabulous bartenders here as they are amazing ! It is definitely a must visit if you are here from out of town- you will love meeting our local flavor as those of us that live here frequent this establishment often if they enjoy live music!

I stumbled upon this bar while having breakfast next-door and decided we didn't want the morning to end. We came in and had bloody Mary's and just hung out a bit. I honestly couldn't believe that the bloody Mary's were $4 and were pretty well-made My husband and I did come here one night after dinner across the street since we did hear live music. We hung out a bit and sat on the swings and had a cocktail while enjoying ourselves with the band that was performing. It's pretty cool that they don't have a fee to come in, which is unusual, but I appreciate it. Somebody like myself from West Palm Beach that is usually used to paying a fee when there's a life band performing at night. You can definitely tell this is where all the locals are and living in such a boring county as in PSL this is nice to have. I would definitely recommend coming here.
