HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I have been trying for 3 weeks to get in contact with this place. Called at different times and no answer. Sent a few emails, the response was not informative at all. When I finally was able to call and actually be answered, the MOST RUDE woman ever answered, I was going to buy a 10 lessons package and I ended up going to BARRIOS AUTO SCHOOL. Great place to learn how to drive! I only took classes here and it was a good experience. The instructors make you feel comfortable in the cars and that helps when a stranger is teaching you how to drive. The 5 hour class felt like it passed quickly because the instructor isn't boring! I definitely would recommend. Also take your test in Staten Island. It's like $30 extra but it's completely residential and it'll be exactly like the places you practice at! read more

Everyone at this location is really just winging it. I initially received a host of false information from George. Which was ok because mistakes happen.he called me 2 times in one day with two different responses to an easy question that any reputable driving school should know. Then the third call came from Angela who refuted the information I received from George and didn't let me speak to him. Then they scheduled a lesson for me at the wrong location and blamed it on me. Even though they were the ones who scheduled it. Angela speaks in a low voice but don't let that fool you. Super rude. read more

This school was simply amazing especially my instructor George! Took my road test in Staten Island and passed on my first try! George was patient with me and very informative, I took the last package which was 15 lessons 45 min each including the 5 hour class and the car to the road test site. I learned a lot and I felt comfortable driving especially because I had no clue how to even move a car. Lol. I took my 5 hour class here and got a package for some lessons. The 5 hour class was a breeze, Ricky was very informative and clear and made the class go by fast with his sense of humor. My driving instructor was Tom (I believe he is the owner of the establishment) Tom is a good instructor however I feel at times he can be a bit aggressive and make the student feel a bit overwhelmed, but overall he is a good instructor. I was a nervous driver with only maybe two previous lessons from a different auto school, but after several lessons with Tom, I was scheduled for my road test, feeling confident yet nervous I passed on my first try. Overall Tom was great. He has great parking tips and techniques that make parallel parking a breeze. If you go to sunset I definitely recommend him. read more

DO NOT TRUST THIS DRIVING SCHOOL!!! One of the instructor who is from an Asian decent can't teach. First of all, people go to this driving school expecting to learn how to drive, but how can one learn if the instructors are not patient, disrespectful, and unprofessional. When I took my road test the Asian instrutors disecourged me from passing the road test. Not only that the owner of the school, the Greek man, he is rude and does not know how to teach the five hour class. Don't waste your money and time here. If you want to learn to drive, I recommend people to go to Alpha driving school in bay ridge and they were helpful and helped me pass the test in a short amount of lessons. read more

My experience with this driving school was horrible. No, the receptionist was nowhere near friendly. She was always super cranky and rude. I remember a couple who had their child with them and she was very mean to him as well. The instructor was an old heavy set man who was a horrible instructor. He only criticized me for me for my mistakes and destroyed any confidence I had in driving. If I knew how to drive that well, I wouldn't have been taking lessons in the first place, now would I? I definitely don't recommend this place as they do not care about their students. read more

AWFUL! I have been a victim of the ignorance and corrpution of this business. I give this place 2 stars because the front desk lady was pretty nice (at least in my experiences), and the owner made the 5 hour class very enjoyable and funny. However, the real criminal in this establishment is one of the instructors, Bobby. (When I first signed up, I was assigned to a guy named Tom. I'm not sure why they mixed my instructor). He is the one that looks Asian-ish. Each and every time I approached the vehicle, he would be sleeping in the drivers seat. And then get very annoyed and cranky when I woke him up. I give some credit for teaching me how to park in about 5 minutes, but even that had its lows. He asked if I ever parked before, I said no. He then told me to attempt parking (without instructing me how) for the soul purpose of mocking my mediocre parking skills. Once again, I had NO prior parking experience. I had deiving experience so there was never a problem with me while on the road. There were times that he made me make illegal moves or turns, but that's understandable since the area is around the BQE expressway and on 5th Avenue which is a very busy place. When I wanted to clarify or ask something during practice, he gave me a snappy attitude as if I shouldn't be asking anything. Very rude of him. On to the road test date. I had my test in September with another student in the car at the same time. Bobby took us for a test drive before the actual test. All of a sudden, he gave me doubts that I will not pass the test and started giving me instructions that he NEVER mentioned before, such as having to look at all the mirrors while backing up instead of just the back window of the car. While waiting for our turn on the road test, he was still sleeping in the car (of course.) I volunteered to do the test first and felt very confident. Unfortunately, I didn't pass. The reason? The instructor mentioned that I wasn't standing straight enough while parked and I wasn't looking at all the mirrors. Understandable and not a big deal in terms of points. But what caused me to fail? The instructor said that I wasn't using the hand-over-hand maneauver. I thought to myself WHAT is that?? I have heard of it but I wasn't told that it was the only acceptable method of turning in the road test. When I told Bobby about the turning maneauver, his response was, "Oh yeah, I noticed that you were doing that." WHAT ON EARTH? I paid for 7 lessons with my own money and you never cared to tell me everything that I was doing wrong? What did I pay all that money for? To have you sleep in the car and maintain that attitude of yours? The guy that was in the car with me passed, on his 5th try. Bobby was smiling and saying that as long as he passed to not worry about the points he got collected. While driving back he paid NO attention to me in the back of the car. And when he dropped us off near the school he never even said bye to me, just to the guy that passed. And then he went to a local grocery store for breakfast. I was disgusted at his atrocious attitude, and the fact that he told me to "just sign up for more lessons" was crossing the line. Since then I went to a different driving school and was able to pass my road test the second with a MUCH kinder instructor. Did I also mention cheaper? My mom took the road test the day after me (with Bobby) and said that he made her very uncomfortable about passing while they practiced before the test. She was able to pass on the first try by just trusting her gut, and not Bobby. Go to this school for the 5 hour class. NOTHING ELSE. You will be scammed for your money and then have an attitude ridden instructor that just collects his salary and cares about NOTHING else! read more

This place is a joke..I bought my son a package for $415 we wanted the road test in Staten Island & paid for 2 extra lessons on top of that which totaled $505. And they charge you a fee for using your debit card. Smh, But I paid for it right before the covid happened. So of course they closed along with everyone else. But when it was said that businesses can open back up we had to call them for almost 3 weeks to get a response back. Which that right there should have been a light bulb to me on going somewhere else but since a lot of my family members came here I thought we keep it in the community. So now let's fast forward a little after the lessons when it came down to his road test we had to keep calling them to set it up. Mean while in the package it said they will set it up for you after you do the 5 hour class which they did but ( yea right I had to keep calling to remind them ) don't get me wrong my son was very comfortable with his instructor. So the road test was set but my son online college class was set the same day & he can't miss it at all & the online schedule was sent to him 2 days before which was on a weekend. No one answers on the weekend so we emailed so of course we didn't get no reply back so we called on Monday & Angela that's one of the people that work there which is soo rude says yea I got your email. So why you never called us or emailed back. So she says we can't reschedule the road you have to reschedule 72 hours before which was NEVER told to us. And basically saying we lost our last lesson so if we want to do the road test & lesson again we would have to pay $120. It's mind boggling that this company would ask for more money. I hope no one spends there hard earn money with these people. They don't care about there hard working customers. read more

This is my second time going to a driving school for the five hour pre-licensing course and this was school was amazing, and the other depressing. They have the price is the best in town and the quality of the instruction excellent. Our guy was hilarious and instead of the 5 hours of nail pulling boredom, we laughed our way through the class while learning a lot. I feel so well prepared for the test, they went way beyond driver safety though that was covered extensively. I have booked a pre-test lesson just to be safe and Instead of dreading the test I am looking forward. Don't waste your time going anywhere else and if you have to travel to Sunset Park, it's worth It! read more

I took lessons at this school a few years back and the instructor was fine enough. He did teach me a few things though he rushed me a couple of times and didn't really do anything to calm my driving anxiety. I felt like he didn't work with me on my weak points so they remained weak points and didn't really give me time to learn. The instructor who taught the 5 hour course made it interesting though and made the 5 hours feel like a breeze. The people who was in charge of payments and making appointments did their job but were dismissive and rude. There was an incident where they didn't acknowledge me when I was literally standing in front of them and said in pretty audible voice that I needed to ask them something. I stood there until they didn't like that I was blocking their light or something and answered my question. Sunset isn't the best school if you've never driven before but it's not the worst. There are definitely cheaper and better schools out there and I highly recommend the one that helped me get my license. read more

I took 5 lessons with Sunset Auto School, plus the 5-hour course there. The 5-hour course is taught by this old guy Wilson, who claims he's been teaching it for 30 years. He's sexist, insulting, and ornery, but at least he's entertaining. I had to take the 5-hour course at another school in Boro Park a year ago, and this one went by much quicker. I also actually learned more this time. I took most of my lessons with Bobby, who is a jerk but an excellent instructor. He won't shake your hand or be nice to you, but he is very serious and knows the rules up, down and sideways. I think he is very good for nervous drivers, like me. I had one lesson with another instructor, don't remember his name. He was good and really nice, but much more laissez-faire, and pushed me to drive very quickly. I would ask for Bobby if I went back. For $35 per lesson, it's a good deal. Drawbacks: you have to go to the office in-person before you can sign up for any lessons, they complain when you ask to be dropped off not near the school, and when I went to the office to pay, the woman was just arriving at 8am when they told me they open at 7am. Also, I should mention that I did fail my driving test, but I don't really blame them. Overall, though, it's a good enough school, as good as Professional Driving school in Manhattan, where I also took lessons. read more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME TAKING a 5hr CLASS HERE it's not informative you will learn nothing at all relevant to start driving besides from a video on road rage and the last few minutes and that's just how to sit in the car -_-. Plus depending on which person is running the class the first few minutes would be used shaming people about why they've taken long to get a drivers lesson (Referring to S.Wilson). I had a friend who I later found taken their 5hr class too and had the exact same experience and the guy talks to students condescending tho I could careless no one should have to tolerate that after spending their hard earned money to be there. The level of CUSTOMER SERVICE IS POOR only one person out of the whole staff gave me service like I'm not being a bother or I'm wasting their time. DRIVER LESSONS CARS ARE GOOD that's the only thing I could give this place. The instructor Ben I had was terrible at explaining also if you're a nervous driver not that I am but he would not help he called out things seconds before I do it as if I'm going to forget which actually made me slllightly nervous making me think a accident was about to happen (rechecking mirrors). May I add he seemed to be nicer to the student of the same race as his but was a terrible driver and nervous wreck that even the road test guy told me to please don't be like her she caught a tantrum literally yet he spoke on her behalf but not me that made one mistake in parallel. ANYWAYS at another place I tried instructors were friendly and made me feel comfortable behind the wheel. Anyways I could not think of one person with a good attitude at this place yet I still kept mines best possible. On a last note scheduling ROAD TEST here they'll schedule a road test charge you and tell you that they're going to schedule a lesson before and it's included in the charge (was told twice) then have you pay for that lesson day of and tell you how important and helpful it'll be. If I didn't do drivers research I probably would of done terrible on that road test. WASTE OF MONEY NOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE and I've been to another driver school unfortunately I did not use them to purchase a package because they did not have lessons available near another in the summer (Guess that happens when a driver school is good they get full). PS. THIS PLACE DOES NOT GO TO YOU. YOU WOULD HAVE TO GO TO THEM FOR LESSONS. Please keep in mind that my daughter took her driving lessons at a hs program. I called sunset just to schedule the road test and give her another quick lesson to refresh her. Benny gave her the lesson and my daughter feels that he gave her very good last minute tips that helped her passed. They schedule the road test very quickly. Awesome driving school. It's small and intimate so the staff knows you personally and don't consider you just another customer. The 5hr class was great, i loved the interaction and passion the instructor exuded. The drivers, well at least my instructor, Ben, was exceptional. He was very patient and taught me everything that I needed to know in preparation for the road test. Prior, to having driving lessons at sunset auto school, I had ZERO experience driving, but quickly became comfortable at driving with the help of Ben. The receptionist, Angela, is very nice and welcoming. The instructor was rarely late and everything was exceptional. He never explained when I did something that was incorrect and never said when I did something properly. If I asked Bob a question he became irritated and would say what do you think. Worst service ever! I called that miserable place and the rude blonde senior lady with a Russian accent answered, I tried to schedule an appointment for a 1 hour driving lesson and told her that my road test is 3 days later, she said we have openings but come to the office to make the arrangement, i asked her if it's possible to be done over the phone, she said no you must come to the office, so i went, i said hi, she replied have a seat (no greetings) and she ignored me and started taking phone calls, about 10 customers called and she gave them appointments for lessons and then when she finished i told her that i called earlier and that she refused to give me an appointment, she said sorry, all the openings are taken now, i said but you told me that you have openings and asked me to come to your office! she said yes because customers called and booked all the slots before thursday (my test date)! then when i asked her why could she schedule for others over the phone but not for me, she replied yes because you have to come to the office to make a copy of your learner permit.. the whole conversation with her, she was very rude and very unprofessional. worst service ever.. read more
