In the beginning I was given a very unprofessional instructor, so I asked for a different one. Its an issue because later on I learned that they have had alot of incidents with this first instructor. They were giving me a lesson a week and sometimes I had to wait 2 weeks. After 3 months I Have completed 13 lessons and tried signing up for the mandatory 5 hour class. When I tried signing up I was told to call the Thursday before the Saturday which is when they do these classes. When I did a different person told me I signed up too late and now I had to wait 3 weeks for the next available one. Ridiculous.... I ended up taken that 5 hour class the next day at a different school. After, I called to sign up for the road test and they said I had to call on Thursday the person that works ONLY that day was In charge of road test stuff. It was a Monday when I called. I decided to look up dates for the road test. They were a minimum of 2 months wait. Somehow with luck one date appeared one month from now, So I took it. When I called Thursday to ask about the car I needed for the road , which is part of the package. They said they didn't have one available for that date because the only road test instructor they have wasn't available. I emailed to asked about getting somewhat of a refund since I paid another school for the 5 hour class and the car for the road test and won't be using foxautos. Its been over a week and not a single response. Luckily this is new york and there are 10s of other schools. Amethyst's driving school is where I should have gone from the beginning.

Sometimes the instructors run over an hour late and don't even let you know until you ask them. Brian is a terrible instructor. I let him know that I had no driving experience, but he always expects me to already know how to do things. He'll tell you to change lanes with no instructions beforehand and then get mad when you don't know how to do it properly. The most alarming issue is that he is almost always asleep during the lesson. He will randomly wake up and mumble random directions that conflict with what he said just a minute ago (which is not helpful for a new driver). Because he's sleeping and snoring for most of the lesson, he can't even answer questions because he doesn't know what's going on around him. The rare times that he is awake, he constantly makes offensive comments. He is extremely racist, sexist, and ableist. I don't know why he thinks it's okay to say such inappropriate things. If you MUST go to this school for whatever reason, ask for Tom (the only other instructor). He actually teaches (and stays awake).

Jason and Igor have to be the most professional, polite, and patient instructors you will find anywhere. Hands down they are the best!!! Honestly, I was not the best student and I didn't catch on quickly. Igor, my primary instructor, took his time explaining and working with me and never once did he show any signs of being frustrated. Igor has to be the most patient Instructor you will find. He is a consummate professional. He took different approaches and different ways to teach me the same thing until I got it. The day before my road test Igor messaged me and wished me good luck. He said "Good luck tomorrow. You will be fine. Just follow what you learned and you will be OK" During the test I could hear Igor's voice telling me every move, every turn, every angle and what to look for. I did it step by step as he taught me and voila, nailed it!!!! I was not confident going into this. But, both Jason and Igor at various times gave me words of encouragement and kept me in the game. After signing up with a local school and scheduling multiple driving lessons, I ended up failing the road test miserably. I was so disappointed that I ended up taking a break from driving. That break lasted 10 years. Fast forward to 2025 and I felt like I owed it to myself to give driving another try. Again, I signed up with a local school and paid for a package to take multiple lessons, but as before, I failed the road test for the second time. This is when I knew I had to make a change. I met Raymond during a 5-hour class where he was the instructor. I remember him telling us that if we needed any additional help that we could reach out for some guidance. I took his advice and did just that. This is when Mentorship Driving School changed my life. Raymond was a very thorough instructor who taught me how to not just drive to drive, but to THINK driving. He seemed to genuinely care about whether or not I succeeded. He preached the idea that you must be intentional and tactical about your every move on the road. His methods are just what any potential driver needs! He was also a fan of repetition which then led to enhancing my skills. Be ready! After only four lessons, I was ready for the road test. I'm not sure what it is, but when you know, you know. I just felt confident in my abilities. When you get to this point, driving doesn't feel like a chore, it feels like a natural task that's been integrated within your skill set.
