He also told me I couldn't bring her to the back, where they had been so nice to her the day before, and the coffee drinks and bagels were prepared. We went next door to buy my café mocha. Many thanks! Review for SB ABC Store: I wanted to give 1 star since the interaction was unpleasant and disturbing, but I gave 2 stars for raw honesty and a decent selection for a small store. Please read on to decide if this is the right store for you and your wallet. What happened? We have a house in SB and were patrons of the store...until tonight. Tonight, we walked in and asked for a rare type of alcohol to see if they carry it. We were told they do get them, but they are all spoken for by locals and regular patrons. I explained we are relatively new locals and patrons. My husband asked if there's a list he can get on for their next delivery. Nope. There's the raw honesty. I guess they could have given us a song and dance. They could have lied, but instead, I fear they took one look at us (bi-racial) and decided they weren't going to add us to their list. I hate to use the race card here since I rarely do, but this felt wrong and was definitely unfair to ALL patrons - regardless of ethnicity - other than their good old buddies. (Oh, and if it was a discrimination issue, I'd like to mention I'm a descendant of at least one documented patriot who fought in the American Revolution. You don't get more "American" than THAT.) I doubt I'll return. I'll drive farther to get better service and better pricing in SC. What a shame because we certainly have a large bar selection and entertain friends often, and of course as Sunset Beach locals (who don't rent their home), we'd prefer to purchase our alcohol in SB since 100% of net profits go directly to the Sunset Beach General Fund. Don't these policies seem fairer than giving preference to the few good old buddies and refusing to sell the rare alcohol to other patrons? I have been shopping at Lowes Foods since I lived in Winston Salem NC. I remember when the branch…read morenow closed in Shallotte was the only Lowes Foods, then the one in Ocean Isle Beach and now that I live closer to the Little River Lowes I have to say with certainty that this one of the only grocery stores I shop at! Tourist season is hard on locals sometimes so I discovered Lowes Foods to Go and Norma and Ashley are both so wonderful. My groceries are packed into my car for me, they take my credit card payment and i am gone! I rarely have problems with my order but when I do they are quick to fix it and give me a discount on my next trip. My son has been working there for 2 years, Shirley has been there for as long as I can remember and even my friend Tawny and her daughter Kristin work there. Why? Because they are good to their customers AND their employees! The store is beautiful, clean and everyone who works there is very helpful! I cannot say anything bad about Lowes but I can assure you if I had a complaint that management would take care of it in the blink of an eye!

The refrigerated cases are frequently out of order or not working properly, and I have repeatedly encountered food that appeared spoiled or improperly stored. I have found eggs that smelled strongly like rotten seafood being marked down to $0.99 and left for sale, yogurt that was rancid I bought for my 3 year old, and now a package of cream cheese that was completely mushy and surrounded by liquid and smelt sour despite being purchased only 15 minutes earlier. I have also gotten sick after eating rotisserie chicken from this location on two occasions. These are all from different visits by the way. I keep going as it's the closest grocery store to me but at this point, I no longer feel comfortable trusting refrigerated or prepared food from this store. What concerns me even more is that I am not the only local person who has noticed problems with food quality and refrigeration here. I have heard similar complaints from other people in the community. Food safety is not something a grocery store can afford to be careless about. Refrigeration failures, spoiled products remaining on shelves, and repeated concerns involving prepared foods deserve serious attention. I sincerely hope management, corporate, and the appropriate food safety authorities look into what is happening at this location before someone becomes seriously ill.
