Bike rental on the beach
Katelyn D.

Awesome day to ride on the beach! We had a great time exploring! The guy at the shop was super friendly and helpful. Instructions and tips were all very helpful! As of April 2021, rentals were $20 for 90 minutes which was plenty of time. Only one group is allowed in the shop at a time, so you may have to wait outside for a few minutes to be helped. Absolutely worth the wait and the price!

Great family fun with the recumbent beach bikes! Explore the entire Cannon Beach!

We've had the beach bikes on our "bucket list" for a while, so we'd planned in advance to be there when it opens to enjoy a longer ride with the bikes. They are open based on the tides - which is clearly important! So that was great to read on their FB page. Each day changes with time - due to the tide, so be aware and plan accordingly. We went on a Thursday, hoping to avoid major crowds - while it was very crowded in the town we arrived at opening time and were able to get in and out very quickly. We arrived at the store, my son went ahead while I parked. There is a public parking directly across from the store which is an amazing find - just be sure you get there early enough to get a spot. I was concerned it would be a long line with the new COVID restrictions and 1 person at a time in the store. However they were very fast and very efficient. They provided simple but precise instruction, clear in their communication on how to use the bikes and explaining everything to look out for on the beach. Ensured my taller son had a bike that fit him - it did and it was perfect. I had a beach bag that I wanted to take but there is no place to put it, they offered a back pack which was a huge help and bonus - talk about customer service support. The back pack saved me as was easy to place on my front so I had provisions for the kiddos. We rented the recumbent beach bikes, you have to carry them to the beach but it's super easy. Just follow their instructions. It will take a few minutes to get a handle on how to move your body with the bike - there is no hand steering, it's all through you body which is a great core workout :-) I think it's a fantastic experience for the young and old. The bikes we had were well oiled in and good functioning order, we had no issues with the bikes although my younger child was tired before we made it to the end of Cannon Beach so it took a while getting back. If you are taking it to enjoy the tide pools it's an easy there and back. My 11 year old got tired a bit earlier than my older son and I. They do have kids carrier attachments which is awesome if kiddos are younger. But I think if you make it an easy ride, an enthusiastic younger child could manage the beach bike a short distance. I'd plan for extra reinforcements like cool drinks and something to sustain a 1 1/2 to 2 hour ride and adventure on the beach. Since it was a good sunny day - sunscreen and hats are best. Prices were completely reasonable and totally worth it - ours was $20 for 90 minutes with some grace period to get to and from the beach. They were excellent all around. I'd highly recommend this and we will absolutely do this again.

Lots of bikes, with 12 different sizes (& all in good condition), to choose from

I have not rented from Family Funcycles, but spoke with the owner, and saw the bikes, and they are all in much better condition than the bikes at Mike's Bike Shop (about which I posted a negative review after our experience there). Family Funcycles has 12 different sizes (compared with Mike's two sizes), and their chains are all in good condition - I looked them all over just before they closed for the day. All of the funcycles we saw - and the two we rented - at Mike's had rusted chains, and as I noted in my review of Mike's, one of those rusted chains came off its sprocket (twice), and we had to walk it all the way back up the beach. I'm surprised no one else has reviewed this place, and am giving it five stars based solely on my inspection of the bikes, my conversation with the owner and the range of sizes they offer. I hope others who have first-hand experience in renting bikes from Family Funcycle will share their experiences here. Meanwhile, I can say that this is the place we will go next time we want to rent funcycles on Cannon Beach.

Fun on the funcycles

Extremely nice when checking in. Very helpful with every one in our party with showing us how the bikes worked. It was a great and fun experience and made some memories with the kids. The kids loved them but they did get tired towards the end. The time they gave to have them was just enough. Will definitely be renting them again when we visit next summer.

Having a blast on Cannon Beach!

We planned on renting these fun bikes in Seaside but were in Cannon Beach having lunch so we asked if there was a shop there. Am I glad we did! We had a blast!! The owner was so great. Very friendly and helpful. Like the other reviewer mentioned, they have many sizes to choose from. They purchase the bikes in the two sizes available then modify them into the other sizes. I had a four year old and a six year old riding. They gave my four year old some small cushions so that he could reach the pedals more easily. It cost $15 for 1 1/2 hours for each of us and it was well worth it (the trailer for my two year old was free). We rode all around the beach near Haystack Rock and even stopped to look at the starfish and anemones. I would highly recommend this shop and we will be back in the future. My kids had a blast and so did we parents!

Awesome time on these. Extremely comfortable too.

Had a blast on these. Staff was great and very friendly. We have rented from here more than once and loved it. If you want to shop, both Seaside and Cannon Beach are great. But, if you want to play in the sand and water, Cannon Beach is the best! These bikes are truly fun and much more comfortable than a regular bike. Legs can get tired sure, but that was it. No discomfort at all in neck, back, hands, arms, or rear end. We paid $17 each for 90 minutes, which was plenty of time and worth every penny! I believe you also get a free trailer rental when you rent two bikes. Can't wait to go back.

A collage of our morning on these fun bikes!

These bikes are so much fun! A great way to see the beach. We rented right when they opened at 9am. Not too hot or windy and it gave us plenty of time to explore. Call ahead before renting to check on times as rentals are based on the tides.

Exceptional friendly service beyond any thing I could ever imagine from this family owned business…read more Laura and Sarah are each helpful over the phone and in person. I had difficulty picking a Yelp category for this business as they are a tool and equipment rental but also do camping, clamming, party and baby supplies. "You can't take a gun on the airplane" I just hate it when people tell me what I can't do. "but it's not a gun, it's a CLAM gun" a clam tube, a clam rifle, or sucker. A clam gun is about two and a half feet long and will not fit in a carry on suit case, nor will it fit in the overhead compartment nor under a seat. Besides I didn't own a clam gun and the cost to purchase one on ebay or Amazon.com is around $50 and I needed two. The cost to check a bag on the flight is $25. So it was beginning to look like a very expensive Zen clamming trip. Ever since I saw the Youtube video, Monster clams https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBxERHMUwrA I've wanted to try clamming on Klipsan Beach in Washington. I had booked the flight, booked the condo, and even signed up for the clam digging "lesson". But every one I talked to in Long Beach, Washington told me there was NO ONE who rented clam guns so even if I purchased two up there I would have to leave them behind. After much searching, I did find a web site for All Rents (they say they are updating the website). http://allrentsinc.webs.com/ Laura was very helpful on the phone and said yes, they did rent clam guns. I reserved two guns for the weekend we needed and slept much better knowing I had all my ducks in a row for a great weekend. When we went to pick up the diggers we were reminded that we needed to purchase shellfish licenses, which we did in Washington. The cost...for the two diggers $14. The memories...Priceless.

It was really a personal preference, as stated below. The instructor/guide, Peggy, was great! She was knowledgeable, helpful, funny, and catered the class to us (all 2 of us! well, 3 if you count my service dog!) What I got out of it? I got a lot of practice on my paddling. Peggy was great in making me learn my body the whats and whys of what I was doing wrong, which, is a much better way of learning than just being told. She guided me to the answer, but I still had to figure it out, which I did, and I now am more able to correct my own errors. Whenever there is a disabled person is a class, and one with a service dog, it can stress others out. Peggy handled it like a pro - as if she dealt with this all the time (and I know she doesn't!) It was welcoming and comforting to know how well we were going to be taken care of. So why did I give it 4 stars and not 5? Completely, 100%, subjective opinion. Boring. This is not a route I would take on my own, nor would I take the class again, mainly because there isn't a whole lot to see. For working on kayaking skills it's a 5/5. Making it an exciting adventure, a 4/5. This has nothing to do with the instructor (she did a great job, and I learned about the island, about wire dams, etc). It's more that it is just not something I would want to repeat. Would I recommend it? Yes! it is a great class after the beginner skills class, because you really have to work on all of the skills. Overall, Alder Creek has been great to work with and I can't wait for my next class (in 2 weeks!)

Botten's Equipment Rental

When we unfolded the chairs to set up for our event I realized the chairs were filthy dirty and unsanitary. They had dirt spots, coffee spots, stains on the padded seats and chair backs. One chair even had a piece of lettuce and tomato stuck in the crack of the seat. I had to pay my event staff to clean and wipe down every chair. I have called all week to speak with the Manager at Botten's to alert them of a this issue of lack of quality control on their part. No one has returned my call. We've rented from Botten's in past years and have given them referrals and good reviews, but this is not THAT Botten's. The Botten's we encountered this year is completely disorganized and the staff is unhelpful, incompetent and just doesn't seem to care. We rented a scissor-lift on a trailer which Botten's hitched to our truck and showed us "what we needed to know" to use it. When we got the lift to the site, it would not start. Totally dead. We never got it off the trailer. When we returned it they gave us a refund but also accused us of bending some piece of metal - not possible, since we never got it off the trailer. And the guy who unhitched the trailer (same guy who hitched it and gave us the "how to's" when we picked it up), apologized and said there was a propane switch that he forgot to turn on and "we wouldn't have known about it." I was upset about the wasted time, the accusation of damage and that we hired a painter for the day at significant expense and no painting was done. We decided to give Botten's another chance - even though they did not communicate with us we thought it was just one bad experience and we were going to let it go. Fast forward a month, we reserved the scissor-lift again, hired the painter again, and took the time to drive back to Botten's in the truck again only to find out that Botten's had no trailer for the lift. The guy at the desk was cussing some other guy about not knowing "how to manage trailers." So, our reservation meant nothing and again no painting was done and no one from Botten's reached out to us. I am writing this review to save you the same trouble - I am certain that our business, our time and our expense meant absolutely nothing to them. At this point, we've rented the lift elsewhere at a cheaper rate without any hassles and the cost for driving a few more miles was well worth it to deal with true professionals. If I could give this 2025 Botten's ZERO STARS, I would.
