Sadly, some folks who have had personal issues with people who attend or attended the church are using this platform to express their hurts. As a lesbian grandma, who brings my grandkids to church, I do not agree with the negative posts. Please visit us and make your own decisions if you are looking for a safe place to be yourself. My wife and I have been attending this church for about 7 years. We have both held many positions in the church, including board president for 2 years. This church has worked very hard to be a truly welcoming congregation to marginalized groups, especially the trans community. At this time in history, safe places of faith for trans folks are few and far between. We feel honored that so many trans people call us their church community. In addition, we are not a traditional church in that we believe that each person's spiritual path is their own. We have people who identify as Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Atheist, Pagan, and more who attend our church and feel it is a welcoming community for them. I think they were opposed to wearing mask and that was strange to me. I plan to give them one more chance to "win" me over with their credibility in being a church that is firm in the Word of God, no fillers. I'm sad it's likely that I can not be an "Athey Creeker". I was first attracted to what was then…read morecalled Athey Creek Christian Fellowship when my brother recommended the verse-by-verse bible teaching of it's pastor and founder, Brett Meador. I'm sure he's as warm, friendly and personable as he sounds on audio, and appears in video. However, attending numerous services over they years, 'Pastor Brett' is kind of like the Wizard of Oz. He appears through the magic wall-size video screen -- teaches -- and disappears when he's finished. It's obvious that with such a large following that he can't be everyone's 'personal pastor' -- thus Athey has a dozen or more sub-pastors. Sadly, those with whom I've interfaced are quite unlike the kindly Pastor Brett. The warmness of Pastor Brett seems to end with him. It feels like a "cold" church otherwise. The church eschews 'greeters'. After hassling with parking, families and couples rush into the church, check in their kids, reserve their seats, grab coffee and chat with their long time friends. Every time I've visited the church in person, I stood near the 'barn doors' and smile at folks rushing in. I've been mistaken for a greeter; I let them know I'm not, just looking for friendly people to meet. In all of the encounters, two different men stopped to chat for a moment. At the end, no one lingers; everyone rushes for the door, trying to make it to their vehicles and out of the parking lot. I've been a few of their men's group meetings. Especially since my Christian brother and friend have passed away, I've been hoping to make male Christian friends. Again, arriving early; smiling; reaching out saying "hello, how are you, I'm ....." -- it's meet with a coolness and indifference that's positively chilling. It's interesting that no one can become a 'member' of Athey Creek Church - they claim not to have membership roles. Calling for prayer recently, I was met with biblical scolding by a pastor on the telephone. I'll chalk it up my not expressing myself and my situation well at the time. It made me very sad at the time, feeling that I'd "lost my church". But then, I realized, I've never been accepted as a "member" anyway. Still, Brett's bible teaching is still exceptionally good. I watched again today, from home.

We searched for a church and chose Branches after researching it on their website and found that their beliefs, values, and mission statement were right in line with our own. We arrived a few minutes early for the 10:30 service and found a intimate setting packed with a lot of very friendly people. GREAT VIBE !! The energy was awesome and the worship was fun and heartfelt. The pastor, Daniel, is a young and vibrant who spoke with passion and sincerity. His message was spot on and authentic. It reverberated with both my wife and I and we left feeling like we could apply it to our lives and walk with Christ. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and are happy that we have a church away from home that is awesome.

I remember being impressed by the guest speaker, and the sheer amount of people in attendance, especially for a quaint little town! Walking in a few minutes late, I was first struck by the sparseness of the audience; a mere fraction of a fraction of the congregation I remember. Maybe thirty people. I asked a very nice blonde girl, apparently a regular, where everybody was. "This is actually one of our big Sundays" she said with a smile. The main speaker, Brian, proceeded to deliver the most inexplicably narcissistic and skewed "teaching" I'd ever heard. After 25 minutes, he ended his self-righteous rhetoric stating, with arms outstretched, "every place I go is better because I'm there." People cheered. But without even the slightest hint of context or reference to scripture, this struck me as the most prideful thing I'd ever heard. It's difficult to excuse a message with the equivocal ambiguity of a fortune cookie, devoid of any scriptural basis. And with attendance plummeting from several hundreds to a couple dozen within the last couple years alone, one has to ask: what is leadership doing to alienate so many people?

The entire church community welcomed our family of seven with open arms, and we quickly formed meaningful friendships, including for our kids. We feel incredibly blessed to have found this gem of a church. We joined a "life group" right away, which helped us understand the church's values and direction. God's presence is truly felt here, and we are grateful to call this our church home. Although I wasn't attending this church during the COVID-19 pandemic, I know there is a live YouTube stream available at 11 AM on Sundays. Due to a past surgery that removed my spleen, I'm considered "high risk," and I did contract COVID-19, but thankfully, I recovered well. "Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?" - Matthew 6:27 "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;" - Proverbs 3:5 The Nehushtan was a metal serpent mounted on a staff that Moses had made, by God's command, to cure the Israelites of snake bites while wandering in the desert. There is no medical explanation it is just God watching over his sheep. I believe the Serpent on the Staff represents the staff Moses through in front of the Pharaoh that turned into a snake... God turned wood... into a living reptile... I don't think I will ever understand that.

Since my husband passed on, this congregation has been very supportive. I will be attending a Grief Share course in September 2023. I'm looking forward to this class!
