I've come to appreciate the sport and courses I've played in. So, from my limited experience (only playing about 4 different courses in Illinois and Kansas), I would rank Northwood Park at the top. Top Three Reasons: 1) I think it's a well designed course. It has a lot different terrain; ranging from wooded to open flat to hilly areas. It's visually appealing and fun to walk around. 2) Even though there's a lot of different landscapes, it easy to find the next basket. And if you get turned around somehow, people that play there are nice and can probably tell you where to go! 3) It's a good course for all playing levels. There are few tricky/challenging holes but on the other hand, there are also some easier ones. The mix of difficulties makes it fun. Now, the only criticism I have for the park is you occasionally find trash around the tee off areas. It's sad because it's such a nice park! Anyway, trash receptacles throughout the course would definitely help!

Blind drives and straight shots abound as well. Hole 5 is a bastard 'cos of the tree line and traversing up a hill then down and crossing a small crick to land on the island pin. Delicious. 18 is the majestic capstone hole. Teeing off 100 feet above the fairway and walking across the crick leaves discers with a lasting impression. Well worth the drive on a nice day. Spend sun up to sun down here. The challenge is to get in the mid 50s. My personal best was 47. Replay: Very High if you are not tuckered out.

This park has a lot to offer, including a Frisbee golf course, two fenced in dog parks, sand volleyball, picnic areas and tennis courts. Plenty of free parking in multiple lots throughout the park. The dog parks include a smaller, more secluded dog park on the top and a large dog park on the bottom, separated into small and large breed fenced areas. The dog parks are often packed with wagging tails on the weekends. No fee and doggie bags are provided by the people. Each season brings something gorgeous to view in nature's little hideaway.

Back in November I ordered 12 acrylic tags for my small disc golf group. I sent my logo in to be…read moreadded on the tags. I ended up deciding to have multi colored tags with my logo on them. They sent me an approval email that had artwork of 4 multi colored tags with my logo white. I didn't actually say I wanted a white logo but I loved the way they looked, so I approved them. Well when I received them in a timely manner they were multi colored tags but had multiple colors as the logo, not at all what I approved. When I finally got a hold of someone they told me it was an artistic rendering that I approved and nothing can be done. No where in emails did it say anything about that. As someone that reads blueprints for a living knows that artistic renditions is written on the blueprint. I'm attaching photos. I didn't want a full refund just wanted all logos white, like what I Approved!

The park was initially constructed in 1920 and was renamed in 2020 after Colonel Otis B. Duncan…read more(1873-1937) who was a Springfield native. Col. Duncan was the highest-ranking black officer to serve in the American Expeditionary Forces in Europe in World War I. There are three parking lots in the park, one along MacArthur Boulevard that can hold about 55 cars, one along Mason Street that can hold about 90 cars, and one along Salome that can hold more than 50 cars. The park does not have any vehicular traffic. However, a walkway connects the Mason Street parking lot with the MacArthur parking lot and brick shelter, passing the band shell. The restrooms were recently renovated in 2019 and now feature a modern playground system, three picnic shelters, and eight pickleball courts. The trail branches south to get to them. A brand-new disc golf course circles the park. The northernmost area of the park has a sledding hill. Picnic shelters, pickleball courts, an 18 hold disc golf course and a fitness court. The playground area includes a small zip line, see-saw and some other interactive toys. And the bandshell in the middle of the park looks like it's ready for the next music festival.
